its no different then the time I got a beatles white album in the plastic for 1$ at a garage sale some mom had of her kids stuff...
two sides to every deal, buyer/seller beware and do your own due dilligence, because expecting other people to do it for you is just insane.
it it makes you feel better, one of my GF's melted the white album into a purse, cause "the white vinyl was so much prettier then the black ones" she had a whole frikken stack of crap records to melt, and she chose that one without asking ofc

Strangely enough that doesn't make me feel better. That sucks about that album mate.
The deal just sounded bang out because it involved further communication and the selling off of other peoples property. Obviously people can get bargains when people just want rid of stuff, but it genuinely sounds like this woman doesn't know what she has done. The community online can be dishonest enough without people Shylocking each other.

yeah, thats the mother making the moral mistake though, not the buyer.
If it was my space hulk that got sold, I would be mad at my mum, not the guy who bought it, as it would be her fault, and there are plenty of other buyers who would just jump on it ASAP if he declined.
thanks for feeling for me with the white album
I do certainly agree that we need to be as moral and honest as we can though, definetly too much net scammers ect already.
And certainly, while I do think you are erring, you are erring on the side of honesty, which while it might be an error IMO, is commendable on a philisophical level.

Is there a special word for selling stuff you don't own in english language ? Because in Polish there is one and its a felony.

so the guy who lost his space hulk can charge his mother with a felony...
still doesnt make the buyer morally in the wrong...
again, thats the mothers fault for selling her sons stuff, not the buyers.... besides which, the mother is the one who bought the SH game in the first place.

People just need to communicate more. It's possible the son may not have known just how much the Space Hulk game was worth, but if he did, that is something his mother should also know. I also wonder if the son was really 'not interested' any more. I go for years at a time without being interested in any sort of table top gaming, but I always come back and I am always glad I never sold anything.

This particular case of ownership/possession is a very murky area in American law, at least, because by our laws, children do not actually own anything, and leaving stuff that you were given as a child in the house of your parents when you come of age and leave does not mean that those things are now, legally-speaking, yours.
This is a situation that cannot be easily answered by non-lawyers.

ok it seems that this thread has gone from sharing in what started as a lucky and fortunate purchase by me into something along the lines of judging morality in people and doing whats right and wrong.
Its time to bullet point this thing once and for all.....the facts.....
1. The advert for initial product was on a local Cyprus facebook page selling stuff. It was going for 35 euros at the time. I have no idea how long it has been up for sale.
2. My wife thinks GW stuff is ridiculous and has no idea of value. She saw it as a board game and recognized only the branding on the box as games workshop before she contacted me about it.
3. My wife merely asked the women what her final price was. The lady on her own accord online dropped to 20 euros to my wife. I had no idea on this till she told me while on route to pick it up.
4. Met lady, lovely person who thought a lot of her son. She admitted to spending hundreds for his hobby and said he no longer is interested. Walks past suitcases of them and shows no interest. She complained to him that the cases were going to get damaged by humidity as it started showing already - still he had no interest and shipped off to UK for uni. She also mentioned to me he use to go for table top battles etc when he was in to it
5. Mother paid for original item, clarified to me what she paid for it and noted to me that GW stuff is ridiculously expensive. This is not signs of a person with no idea what she was doing.
6. I have no clue as to the mother - son understanding and for all we know he said to her sell it for whatever it goes for. My guess she didn't appear to me to be some inconsiderate person just flogging random stuff out the window. She would of just binned it them surely.
7. We chatted for like 15 mins about my addiction to it and she compared me to her son with many aspects so she had time to prove to me of uncertainty of the sale there was no sign.
8. Exchanged money and I double asked if she was sure before taking the item for the 20 euros she requested.
9. Exchange done - for good will on my behalf I have given a week for her to contact me suggesting the sale was a mistake. That's as fair as I am going to be on this without losing sleep over it.
Ive lost some and very rarely won some.......maybe karma has swung my way for now.
I hope this helps clear up the people who keep suggesting I did a dodgy on this lady. Truth is you don't know and will never know the scenario with the son. You are all looking at it as die hard GW fans and not from the eyes of someone who actually doesn't care if it goes or stays. Since we don't know the score we shouldn't continue to bitch about what will happen to her when her son finds out. WE WONT EVER KNOW

Sounds to me like everything was above the board and you got hell of lucky and a great deal. Seems to me like she was more interested in just getting the crap out of her house, and the dude in Uni probably doesn't give a toss about the game any more.
I mean, it's super-nice that you're giving her a week's "seller's remorse" period, but that's also going way above-and-beyond some "customer service attitude" there.

As the OP stated multiple times, the MOTHER bought the game, her son didn't play it, so she decided to sell it. She had an asking price, haggled with the OP's wife, terms were accepted, done. OP, don't feel bad. Half the people calling you out on here either did so before seeing the mother bought it and the other half calling you out don't have the ability to read. Either way, ignore them. Of course, I'm biased-I got my copy of Space Hulk free (demoed it all day at a game store and was given a copy for doing so). I played about 3 games of it after demo day and then it sat on a shelf.

Congratulations on the deal! I don't think you should feel bad at all, but these stories always make me cringe a little bit. I wonder what the uni student is going to think about it all? Will he care? From the mother's perspective all these minis might just by lying around in unused 'briefcases', but from the student's perspective they might be carefully packed in battlefoam, waiting to be used again.

thank you - much appreciated.
The uni student may be ok with it or he may not be. The point still remains that the mother has the relationship with the kid its her job to know what she is selling on his behalf. We cant ever know but from the current facts it seems as if she knows the son well. He was a hardcore fan and for years hes not touched anything and they are just left in suitcases. I think she would know difference between the mini suitcases and just standard suitcases / bags whichs hes dumped the stuff in. She knew the games workshop line up pretty well from our conversation so i dont believe shes just ignorantly picking items up and selling them randomly or making incorrect assumptions about her son. But non the less the timer is ticking still because im not a hit and run kind of guy. Time will tell - or the next 5 will anyhow

Hello and I would still like to add two points:
Point 1. If you asked the woman to contact her son, I think you did moraly right, if you did not you made a good deal.
Point 2. I am probably wrong but something in the back of my head says that this is a troll thread. Sorry to op if I am wrong.

Nothing what the OP did was morally wrong in any possible way. He bought it fair and square for a price the seller thought was worth it and agreed with.
If there are any moral problems in this amazing story, than it is with the mother, as she sold stuff that she did not own.
The OP is not immoral at all and the people who say so should look to their own immoral comments instead, or take a lesson in ethics.
The fact that the OP offers to return the box if asked even though he has no moral or legal obligations to do so already says enough.

Curses to your future games OP!
I mean...great find lol.
I still currently troll ebay, amazon, craigslist, etc. once in a while to search for an ever elusive Space Hulk (at a non wallet raping price).
I even bought the recent video game release just to wet my pallet.
However to have those mini's would be awesome.
Gratz on the find and enjoy them. I'm hoping to find a set myself.

I've come to believe that eBay isn't a great place to find any good deals anymore as 90% of all auctions are either fixed by the GW sellers friends bumping the bids as high as possible as I find it some nights ridiculous how some offers go so high. Meaning once delivery is added the second hand and sometimes bad condition items ogre for like a pound less than the brand new thing at the shop. Minus you don't get the full box contents. As for space hulk and much research I don't know how this value went so high but it's the fault of the desperate collectors paying prices hat high that set the standard in the first place. Now it seems everyone on eBay is trying to con the buyers but either starting high on using mates to conveniently bump prices sky high
Thanks for the thumbs up by the way
