Hi everyone,

this is going to sound more like a "rub this is your face" kind of thread but I was overjoyed today when my wife called me at work earlier to tell me she found someone online selling a brand new limited edition space hulk board game from games work shop. I know that I have been keeping my eyes on these things for a number of years now and they seem to be hitting all sorts of crazy prices some even going up to 250 GBP + Delivery charges. Now my wife knows I collect these minis (she's not too fond of it but she doesn't mind me collecting so I guess im one of the lucky guys in here that are married with a loving and understanding wife :-)

So this is where I get to gloat. The selling price when I asked my wife was 35 Euros (so that's like 26 GBP). I immediately catapulted off my seat and yelled for her to close the deal with the seller. Little did I know my wife contacted them back and tried to drop the price even more. To my amazement she had managed to drop the seller to just 20 Euros.....a mere 16 GBP. I think I have made the deal of the century because unless this person didn't know what she was actually selling after I drove like a maniac to pick it up I had my doubts if it was an intact boxed GW space hulk board game as described. To my relief the box was sealed as new and to be sure I opened the box up to make sure all the sprues were there in all their glory. The women then admitted her 18 year son who was off to university no longer was interested plus had hundreds of minis in suitcases all around the house. Then it occurred to me she must be selling it without his consent otherwise it would never of been sent to my hands for such a low price.
javascript:void(0);
So there you have it.....an amazing story to say the least...here are some pics to prove my purchase. Still shaking from amazement and constantly pinching myself just in case im still dreaming.

What do you all think??? (SMUG SMILE)

A fortuitous score indeed !

I've moved this out of the news/rumour board as this doesn't quite fit there.

Hey guys what's going on? I'm an exchange student from Cyprus, just moved into the dorm here. Glad to have found this forum so I can stay in contact with the hobby now that I'm in a strange land. I hope my mom takes good care of my hobby stuff, especially my pride and joy, a mint, unopened Space Hulk! That thing is going to put my kids through college someday!

Bye bye and take care!

Thanks for replies everyone, im pretty chuffed still with my find. Still pretty much cant believe it as im not one whos luck is always on a high. So im happy that ive managed to share with you my good news.

In response to that its value has halved because of the plastic wrappings - i dont care about that at all. I didnt pick this up screaming like a maniac with joy to keep it in plastic for another 100 years where its price may go up to 2/300 pounds more because whats to enjoy in doing that? There are ways to re-seal plastic wrappers as its posted all over the internet thats why i wanted to open it before i left in case i would of been a victim of a bad joke. Mind you it was as heavy as hell to be a joke unless of course they filled it with books to get to the same original weight.

As mentioned before im a die hard blood angels collector and these rare terminators will add to the team nicely as any great new mini would. I hope to one day be the owner of a complete chapter and having this lot part of it makes me all the more happy.

Now for the rest of the packet unopened i will probably sell on. this would mean the whole box without the terminators inside. Whatever i can get for it in the later future i wont really mind since i bought it for such a low price.

Lord_blackfang - i hope this isnt yours ive just bought from your mum as i did pick this up in cyprus earlier today. Im going to be gutted for you if it is. Mind you my mum gave away all my antique generation 1 transformers to random people when i was a kid so their probably doing the same thing as im doing in here.....sucking it up :-)

I guess a genestealer / tyranid fan would be interested in buying the untouched sprues. I may try my luck on ebay but ive heard that their charges have gone up and they even clip money off your postages. What has the world become?

Thanks again for sharing my happy moment of the year. The year has started well for me so far. Fingers cross it will stay that way,

As a SM and now Nid player, I actually opened my Space Hulk 3rd Ed. BIG MISTAKE.

For what it is worth, the Genestealers are awesome for playing Space Hulk, but are unwieldy as hell to try to base correctly and then play with. Awesome sculpts, and I have received some cool reactions from folks when my Terminators have all sorts of uncommon models amongst them, but yeah, the Genestealer half of the box is troublesome on a wargaming table.

I am actualy quite sad for the son of the seller. Actualy I think that if you are realy nice, maybe you could ask does he want to buy it back. I know that asking that is a bit silly but atleast it would be nice.

Hum... Not sure thats fair. Personally I would have walked away at that point. As much of a good find as it is she is selling someone else's property and you knew it, especially as someone away at college is an adult. If it was me I would be very very angry if that happened without my knowledge. How would you feel if your wife was the one selling your stuff whilst you were away rather than finding it for you?

If what you mean by "Her son was not interested" was that he knew she was selling the stuff as he didn't want it, which is quite possible, then fair play and good luck to you.

of course a part of me feels sad for the son but the mums words exactly was that he has suitcases of minis and some aren't even opened and it was her that got him the space hulk game for his birthday and he just wasn't interested. I honestly felt that she spoke as if he knew she was going to get rid of some of his things but maybe he forgot to mention how much it should of gone for. Mind you she knew the worth of it as shes the one who bought it in the first place. Now in another light I would have owned up and said to her this may be a mistake but she was insisting it was fine. (Believe me im not that cold and do know how it feels to have something given away - my transformers remember?)

The fact she sold it so willingly even though she said her son was a die hard warhammer fan - went to battles and everything - hes just no longer interested in it. She said he doesn't notice any of his minis anymore and doesn't have the interest as before. So to be fair she must of mentioned it to him in an attempt to sell a few to provide him with some extra money. Now the actual money hes going to make is what he may get shocked from not the actual sale. This is probably the truth of it all but like I say the mother has my wife's number and I guess if things get heated then she can contact me back where I am going to be devastated to have to hand it back. Noooooooooooo - im kidding but then I will wake up and say hmmm that's more like my luck....it was too good to be true but it was a good feeling while it lasted.

Lets hope it was an honest sale and not a stab in the back but I guess time will tell........I give her a week to contact me since I think that's more than enough time for her to tell her son the bad news and him go haywire....after that im going to start ripping into the terminators and giving them a warm welcome into the fold.

I hope they stay that's all im wishing for

Sell it back? Screw that. She wanted to sell it and you bought it, end of conversation. If she or her son later have sellers remorse, too bad.

Only she didn't sell her stuff and if her son realy didn't want to have to do anything with w40k anymore , he would have sold the stuff, specialy a foiled up space hulk set .

Imagine you have some old first print comics . You leave for collage[no space to take them] and your mom sells them , because your "not in to them anymore" and you didn't even take some out of their protective foils . And sells your stuff etc .
In fact my grandmother did the same thing with my fathers bike . He went to finish his doctorate , and she just sold it because no one was using it . It was a WWII german bike he and his father fixed .

Life sucks. Then, you die.

I can run through a hundred different scenarios here where the guy off in college would or would not have wanted it sold, but in the end, since I don't know him, I can't say how he would react. Maybe he accepted the Space Hulk box in trade for a brick of weed. Who knows? It's a wonderful find and a lucky purchase, and major props to your wife for bargaining down further on it.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

thanks everyone for sharing this happy moment in my life. Yes I do owe the missy big time for her find since I only went crazy after she informed me about it.

As for the guy saying it was dishonest of me of picking it up for that much - I already said above she was the one who bought it in the first place direct from games workshop as her son was really into it while he was younger. Now I would of felt bad if it was someone who picked up a box and thought "what the hell is this old thing" like any other cheapo board game and just sell it as junk to make room. But this woman was more than aware of what she was selling and the more I think about it the more its justified it was something she bought in the first place and noticed it was not being used. Therefor it should be more than justified her deciding to sell it. Now if her son had other plans to keep it locked away and sell it 50 years later where it would be worth much more. The problem I can see her having is the argument of price sold but in no way do I feel like I conned her because she knew 100% what she was selling. She was familiar with warhammer, with games workshop and their stupid rock solid sky scraper high prices. She still wanted to get rid of it so that's more than does it for me to be a legit sale. Because however im a decent bloke - I am giving her another 6 days to commune with her son and ask for it back because it was not his plan to get rid of in this respect. If however she delays after that then im going to dive into the package and use the terminators as I intended to be part of my chapter. I know this upsets many of you but im sure that 99% of everyone in this forum would not pick up a 50 pound note off the street and run around like a headless chicken trying to find out who the original owner of it was would you? No course not it would go straight in your pockets and make you think to yourself "its my lucky day". Unfortunately this is how life works out - someone's happiness usually results in someone else's misery.

Im just happy to be in the right place at the right time. This never happens to me and even though winning the lottery would be a better deal of luck this was definitely going to be a memorable day for me which will be remembered for years to come.

Lordsolar - I too feel as though this adds a whole richer background to the blood angles as a whole and not just the librarian known as Brother Calistarius who overcame the red thirst and survived and later became as the lord of death "mephiston". I have now both versions of him thanks to the space hulk set.

redbristles - I have too seen the cost of ebay mint unopened box sets of space hulk. Ridiculous of you ask me. People are obviously taking the biscuit there because they are forcing people to spend 3 to 4x more than what it was worth. Yet people buy them because of their over powering addiction to own a OOP product from GW or die hard collectors to complete their collection of minis with another over priced product, Non the less no one forces someone to buy things for whatever they go on for sale for. If tomorrow I decide to rebox my items and re-seal the plastic wrappings and then sell for 200 pounds. I would still get stick from people saying its bad what I did because I ripped some poor desperate bloke off charging too much. I myself would not of even paid 50 pounds for this set as its money I cant afford to throw away all in one go on GW stuff no matter how much love I have for it.

Anyways, again thanks for the feedback and for sharing my great find. (Erm my wife's find)
