Yes, beating kids is the only problem. Poverty levels around schools, Poor parent interaction, and funding. Nope, we beat kids, they would tottally perform better.
Slightly OT: But I was reading my sociology book recently, it said how While Middle Class tends t be child oriented, focusing on the childs needs before the parents, Working class and blue collar tend to actually be Adult, Focusing more on the adults of the household rather then the children meaning less help with homework or school. School is seen also by Blue collar as the responsibility of the educators, parents dont know much, they defer to the educators.

I'd love to know the context of why these things were said. If she is teaching a ruff inner city bunch then there is every chance the comments were appropriate for the situation. Though that doesnt mean its the best reaction to get the students acting how they should.

Yes, paddling as discipline doesn't help any of those other problems. Only a moron would think otherwise.

I am talking spoiled ass little gaks who need something to to motivate them and to take the attitude out of them. Sure it is only a percentage, but its a start. Problems with poverty are not going away and funds are always going to be low. Parent interaction? Good luck with that.

I really hope you have a well behaved kid that doesn't need a little "positive reinforcement" though. You are pretty lucky.

You know what is really bad? Poverty, poor parent interaction, and funding isn't the cause of being a smartass kid that needs his ass spanked. Usually the more well off kids are the ones who needs a tanned hide.

But it is true, misbehavior isn't so much as a problem as the others, but it is one that can be rectified much faster. What does a paddle cost? $30.00? The drill would cost a bit more though. The best paddles are the ones that have 50 holes drilled in them so your butt oozes through the paddle when it gets hit. My old man had one like that all painted up in acrylic paints. Had "Ouch Maker" engraved on the pommel. I would have probably been on drugs now if he didn't use it on me the few times he had to like the rest of the kids in my neighborhood of poor folks living on welfare.
