Well, I'm more a gamer than anything else. Played in a lot of tournaments during the last ten years and lost not too many games in toto.
But today, I know how to paint miniatures and painting comes rather close to gaming. Collecting is a different aspect which can be very expensive especially if you buy limited edition stuff. I'm not so into it.

I'd keep buying them and work on my own ruleset to tighten up gameplay (or just, y'know, have my models make PEWPEW noises at each other for a while).

I have not played a game in years, I keep on buying though.

I need my plastic crack, or else I'll have to resort to cardboard crack instead

I used to collect them just for fun with very little games, so I voted collect but lesser, also, I was never a model collector. Action figure, yeah, but models like tanks or even gundam I do not collect, hence my choice.

Before AoS I was planning to start up a WfB again.
Now I don't even want to go near those models. So nope I'm not be buying 40k models If there was no game I could be using them in.
I would buy some models for other games I play such as RPG's.. I love using small scale (Epic / Warmaster) miniatures for them. I

Nope. I like the background more than I like the models. If there's no game, no point spending a helluva lot of money for them, when I could buy other geek material I like (Marvel, mechas, etc).

Just use the old rules kr make up new ones. Problem solved

Really the point of this thread was to see how many people buy models without wanting to play with them, but since this discussion is a year and a half necromancy I'll ignore that

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

As much as I spend more time building and painting than playing I wouldn't buy the models if they didn't have a use.

I buy GW stuff for other games mostly. It's actually quite embarrassing how much 40k and WFB stuff I have.

I would have bought the LotR figures without ANY game to play, GW or not. Probably not in the quantities I did though...

Contrary to popular belief, company does not have to make rules to tie it's miniatures to. For years and years, nearly all of 15mm scale wargaming is done with miniatures from one company and rules from another.

There is always a good game out there for good miniatures that you like the looks of.

I have recently bought and painted a small army of modern-style Orks for use with the 2nd edition 40K rules. Haven't played 40K using an an edition after 4th. I'm also quite sure that the current number of players buying Warhammer figures, and the amount of people using those same figures to play Age of Sigmar are quite different.

Without a game to back it up, I'd stop buying miniatures.
E.g - I am just mopping up the rest of my HE and I ain't touching any AoS stuff.

I only ever bought a model because I can play it. No game would mean i would have never bought so many of the same models. I would have ever bought 1 of each model instead of 10 troop soldiers, 6 transports, 3 heavy tanks, 3 fast flyers, 3 walker elites, and countless hq. My god I wasted over $3000 on this crappy hobby.

I would still buy some minis. I love the background enough that I would still enjoy building and painting models, I would just buy less of them.
