Personally, I've always thought the Statue of Liberty was a great place to hide a secret robot;
Tired of sitting on the sidelines during the monster apocalypse, Obama is ready to save the world.
I'd actually like to see that film. Perhaps not with Obama. Certainly the statue of liberty as a giant robot. Mount Rushmore would also be hiding four backup robots or perhaps one robot with four heads. President Prime.

Damnit, doesn't everyone know that the statue of liberty is a weeping angel?

If you pay attention to the plot of the movie, I believe it is implied that this is a terrible idea.
I'm one of the biggest movie snobs you'll ever find.
I still loved that movie though, and I'm super geeked about the second. If you didn't like Pacific Rim, then you just can't have fun, it's that simple.

I haven't even seen Pacfic Rim. Not my kind of movie.
But it's got all kinds of internet love, so obviously it managed to be what a reasonably sized audience wanted it to be, and that audience is large enough internationally that its getting a sequel. So it goes.

People often say things like that, as if all of del Toro's films were like Pan's Labyrinth or The Devil's Backdone. But along the way he also made the Hellboy movies and one of the Blade sequels - more than half his credits as a director are straight up popcorn movies.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

The Hellboy films were what they were, and what they were was better than Pacific Rim.
Honestly I'd like a film just about the very beginning of the Kaiju war. The first Jaegers into action and this time lets see some conventional tanks and jets fighting alongside them.
Damnit, doesn't everyone know that the statue of liberty is a weeping angel?
No, because that was a terrible piece of writing and plot and we pretend it never happened. (I mean seriously, are they trying to tell us that for a moment, not a single creature in New York was looking at the statue, and that no one actually noticed it was gone? )
Anyway, tangents aside, a prequel would be cool, and as said above, seeing conventional weapons alongside the robots might be interesting.

I liked the Hellboy films (not as much as lots of people, but I thought they had plenty of charm and some great character design). But they were what they were - good character studies smooshed in to an otherwise by the numbers fantasy action pic, calling them more to that does them a disservice.
