Hey guys, I was able to get a quick Kill Team match in today, where I fielded my Orks in a real game for the first time! Unfortunately, not everyone I used was painted, and I broke a personal rule by fielding a fully grey Deffkopta, so I guess I'll need to go to GW confession or something.

For 195 points, I used:
10 Boyz with 1 big shoota
1 Nob w/ Power Klaw (specialist with Hatred)
10 Grotz
Runtherd (Warlord, since his Ld is equal to the Klaw Nob)
2 Deffkoptas with TL rokkits (both specialists, one with Ignores Cover, the other with Preferred Enemy)

I went up against a Space Marine list I'm familiar with: ~5 regular marines, 1 marine with BS 5, 1 marine with a plasma gun and Preferred Enemy, a sergeant with combi-plasma and lightning klaw, and an attack bike with multimelta and FnP. The mission type was Infiltrate the Camp (where the attacking side tries to run models off the opposing table edge for points, the defending side gets a point per 3 models killed, no outflanking or turbo boosting allowed), and I chose to be the attacking side.

Spoiler'ed due to length
Spoiler:

Here's what the table looked like at deployment...

Night fighting was on for the first turn. The attacking side goes first... until my opponent stole initiative!

Turn 1
Most of his marines advanced, and his attack bike came straight for a group of 7 Grotz on my left flank, who were hiding in ruins. Firing all his weapons, he scored 2 wounds on a Grot who passed both 3+ cover saves. A Deffkopta that Scouted forwards into some trees also made a 4+ save against the plasma gunner. Unfortunately he forgot to charge his attack bike into the Grot he shot at, so then I got my first turn. Everyone except my Runtherd and the Grotz with him advanced, and I made sure to keep everyone in ruins or trees for cover. My Ignores Cover Deffkopta shot at the plasma gunner and killed him for First Blood! My PE Deffkopta fired a rokkit at the attack bike and missed. All 7 Grotz near the bike shot... only 2 hit. But one got a to wound, and he failed his armor save and FnP ! My big shoota boy in the 2nd floor of a ruin shot at the attack bike, scoring enough wounds that he failed one of his armor saves and FnP once again and died.

Turn 2
A couple marines advanced into the trees at the center of the table, while the rest stayed up in ruins. Concentrated bolter fire wounded one of the Koptas, while my Nob made passed two 5+ cover saves from being in trees. I responded by moving a number of Boyz and my Klaw Nob as far forwards as possible, and some into charge range. Meanwhile, my Grotz and Koptas moved straight for the board edge. I had no models with whom to call a WAAAGH!, but I think a Boy might've let out a "Wargh" or possibly a Grot cried "Wah". My Nob charged the BS 5 marine, and another Boy charged a regular guy. The marine failed to wound the Nob and was promptly cut down by the Power Klaw.

Turn 3
My opponent, now realizing the strength of the Power Klaw, focused his unengaged marines on my Nob. He couldn't make any more cover saves, so the Nob was killed by mass bolter fire. Meanwhile, one other marine on the left flank started picking off Grotz as they rushed towards the board edge. I was able to get my Deffkoptas of the table for 2 VP, and I charged several more Boyz into two marines out in the trees, while the third marine was killed by stray Slugga fire, thereby breaking the enemy! One Boy died to overwatch, but I was able engage the marines and stop them from shooting for a bit.

One Boy also charged his leader, the sergeant, but then I remembered the lightning claw. RIP mah Boy.

Turn 4
All unengaged marines passed their morale tests. The sergeant hopped down from his ruin, feeling confident to win even outnumbered with his dangerous melee weapon. He tossed a krak grenade at another Boy and killed him. The other marine up in a ruin shot down another Grot. The 2v1 and 1v1 assaults raged on inconclusively. I decided it was time to move up my Runtherd and 3 reserve Grotz for backup. I moved in my remaining Boyz on the right flank right into his leader's face, hoping to kill him with lots of Sluggaz or potentially with sheer numbers in assault.

Oi, who's dat git over there? Are da Boyz about to go stomp 'im? I don't FINK so!

And dat, Boyz, is how ya Slay da Leader right and propa!

Meanwhile, one marine killed an opposing Boy in assault, and the marine stuck in a 2v1 killed one Boy and swept the other.

Turn 5
Once more, all remaining marines passed their morale. The last marine in a ruin hit 2 Grotz with a frag grenade but could only kill 1. The other two marines toward the center moved towards my contingent on the right flank and each scored a kill. I was able to run a couple Grotz on the left off the table for more VP, but a couple were still in danger...

Meanwhile a lowly Grot following the Runtherd into battle shot and killed one of the three remaining marines ! The last marine down on the ground was then charged by 2 Boyz and a Grot, but he survived the first round of assault. The game continued on to turn 6.

Turn 6
My last two Grotz on the left were apparently less cowardly than the marine hunting them, as he failed his morale even with the reroll from ATSKNF. One last marine remained on the battlefield, until my green tide finally overwhelmed him in close combat that same turn!

The final score was 8 - 3, and the marines were furthermore tabled. It was certainly a glorious debut for WAAAAGH! Goldtoof. I'll ought to award MVP to the big shoota Boy for finishing off the attack bike and picking off the sergeant, but I would love to instead give it to the grot that wounded the bike and made it off the table

That's all for today. This Sunday, I'll be rolling out my IG to try to maintain my spot ostensibly towards the top of the league's rankings. Stay tuned!

Hey guys, I thought I'd like to show what I've been working on lately, it's my entry for this month's unofficial painting challenge! Though still WIP, I've made quite a bit of progress on it, and some heavy weathering like paint chipping and a good Nuln Oil wash after I finish the last of the basecoating should see me finished before the deadline. I should probably consider my color schemes prior to priming, because it took a lot of time and a lot of yellow coats (4 or 5) for adequate coverage on black primer.
As per usual, please excuse my lack of photography skill. I'll figure it out eventually.

Next up, I'd like to show you who I've been running for my local Kill Team league: the one, the only, the Kiln Team! (APPLAUSE)
If this image is to fuzzy, it's also in my IG gallery -> https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/859973-The%20Kiln%20Team%20%28ba%20dum%20tiss%29.html?m=2

I'd like to take a second to dote on my eyepatch/arm-in-sling/all-around-BAMF meltagun vet. He's been the sole survivor of a mech vet unit in full size 40k games multiple times. He's survived a close-combat onslaught from two sentinels at once, Our Weapons are Useless-ed out of assault, regrouped and nuked one with his gun, and ended the game harrying an enemy HQ Russ squadron all by himself. In a 4000 v 4000 point hellscape of a game. Probably my favorite guardsman.

Now that that's off my chest, this is my Kill Team list:
Veteran Squad with Chimera DT
- Grenadiers (4+ armor) doctrine
- Sergeant/leader with power fist (probably should've done power axe and gotten krak grenades, but he's gibbed several MEQs in CC )
- Veteran with meltagun (Specialist, Eagle Eye = 18" range)
- Veteran with plasma gun (Specialist, Preferred Enemy)
- Veteran Weapons Team with autocannon (Specialist, Relentless)
- Chimera armed with multilaser and hull-mounted heavy flamer

We roll once for the leader trait, and it is permanent throughout the league. I got the 3 + D2 Outflank trait, not super useful given my list. Individual models also earn experience for killing enemy units and ending games holding objectives, and earning 10 can be used to get bonus specialist traits. When killed in a game, models only "truly die" if they roll a 1, costing them their experience and any bonus traits. I am currently 6-2 in my league, second highest win rate as far as I'm aware, with the best being 4-1. Here are brief recaps of the matches played over the course of this month.

GAME 1
First two missions were 3 objectives and permanent Night Fighting. I went up against ~7 Chosen CSM and a spawn. I was denied First Blood on my turn 1 because a Chosen survived a direct hit from my plasma gun. The spawn was very fast and used buildings to stay out of LoS turn 1, so he was able to assault my Chimera turn 2 and wrecked it handily as he got 6 or 7 attacks on the charge. I did manage to kill about 4 of the Chosen, one hilariously with my sergeant's laspistol, but I was ultimately tabled.

GAME 2
Same mission as above, but against ~8 tac marines and an attack bike (note this is the same guy who I got to play my Ork list against). On a heavily forested map, I rolled forward and targetted the marine with a plasma gun first, as I was fairly unafraid of regular bolter fire on AV10. I Outflanked my leader on turn 2, who by turn 3 assaulted a regular marine and scored a kill with a power punch. Meanwhile, one of my lasgun vets miraculously survived about 2 rounds of CC against his sergeant's lightning claw, and by then my meltagun vet had disembarked and gotten close enough to slay the leader. My Chimera could have been destroyed when his attack bike outflanked, but he rolled a 2 to hit with his multimelta, leaving it exposed against the autocannon and plasma gun inside. This time, the IG tabled the marines.

GAME 3
New mission: one side crosses the table for VP, the other defends. I was unfortunately on defense, going up against some Tau stealth suits, pathfinders, and a two different types of drones. I disembarked my sarge early because I was concerned about his stealth suit leader with a fusion blaster. Before he could get in 2d6 armor pen range, I made a 9" charge, surviving overwatch from the fusion blaster and 2 burst cannons from the other stealth suits nearby. I punched his leader really hard for slay the leader, but then my own leader was quickly gunned down the next turn. Several of his pathfinders were trying to cross a bridge over a river in the center of the board, but they were lined up to be all killed by a single heavy flamer template. I shot down the last stealth suits and drones trying to escape on either side of my Chimera, and won with another tabling.

GAME 4
Same mission, and again I was defending. This time, there were 5 Space Wolf scouts, 5 actual wolves, and Lukas the Trickster. I made an error with my deployment, as though I put my HWT and Chimera reasonably spaced in my deployment zone, my opponent was able to infiltrate 3 scouts very near my board edge. Easy 3 VP for him . However, my Chimera was able to torch 3 of his wolves in response, also earning me first blood, and my autocannon team on the other side of my deployment zone eventually killed both of the remaining scouts. He was able to get the last 2 wolves off the table as well. This left Lukas. He was coming to wreck my gak, and by that I mean my Chimera. So I disembarked my meltagun to get close enough to ID him. I missed. Before going for my Chimera, he charged my meltagun. I hit on overwatch! I wounded him! But he made a ruin cover save, and even with a disordered charge easily killed the vet. Lukas was not so lucky against the rapid-fire plasma and lasgun arrays next turn. My opponent got 5 points for getting 5 guys off my table edge. I got First Blood, Slay the Leader, Break the Enemy, and 2 "kill points" for killing 6 of his models. So we both had 5 VP at game's end, but since I was the only one with models left on the table, I won on a technicality. Another tabling. Perhaps the closest game I've ever played.

GAME 5
This was my first game against the other guy doing very well in our league. He's running IG too, but more of a horde. There are 2 vet squads with the +1 cover save doctrine, an autocannon team, a lascannon team, and 3 ratlings. This guy has the actual ratling models, too, pretty cool. What's not cool is that I was again defending like the previous two games, and that he managed to explode my Chimera on turn 3 with a lucky lascannon shot, despite me trying to stay in cover. Which means I didn't get to use my heavy flamer on his advancing infantry wave with enhanced cover saves. I ended up getting tabled with a final VP score of 6-3.

GAME 6
A new Tau list with ~6 fire warriors and 3 crisis suits, but this time, I finally got my chance to get my entire kill team across the board and try to score 10 VP at once! I went cruising speed into a ruin so I could get cover during his turn, and I promptly got immobilized.

Things weren't looking so hot, so I popped my smoke launchers and hoped for the best. During his first turn, thanks to smoke, ruins, and night fighting, I passed cover saves from every pen and glance he could do with his S5 weaponry. All of them, especially the shot from his leader's fusion blaster. This gave me the opportunity to score first blood killing several fire warriors on turn 2, disembarking my plasma gun to kill more fire warriors otherwise just out of range. I took a hull point or two on Tau turn 2, but my Chimera still survived. I disembarked a couple of vets because his JSJ roll failed his leader, leaving the crisis suit relatively exposed. I was capitalized on this by killing it with my meltagun for slay the leader. By turn 4, I had also gotten break the enemy, and the only Tau left on the board between shooting and failed morale was one crisis suit, who stuck around till the end on turn 6. I won 3 to 1, earning VP purely from secondary objectives. However, I rolled a 1 after my plasma vet died, and he had 9 experience. I was 1 kill away from getting Ignores Cover on him, now I had to start all over again .

GAME 7
The pathfinder/stealth suit team again, except this game was a straightforward 3 objective game. My opponent got a little hasty to beat me to the objectives, so his leader ended up very near my Chimera holding an objective in a ruin. I was able to overcome his 2+ cover for a first blood/slay the leader combo. The other stealth suits fairly effectively tanked a lot of my firepower on turns 2 and 3, so I switched it up by focusing on drones and pathfinders on turn 4, though my leader was killed by some pathfinders in the far corner by the 3rd objective in the effort. With a few unlucky 1s to boot, I was able to eventually table him again, though he did manage to wreck my Chimera because I couldn't kill the stealth suits targetting my side armor in time.

GAME 8
Another rematch vs. the mass camo veteran IG team. His autocannon team got enough experience to gain Stealth, meaning 2+ cover in ruins. This game, however, my Chimera came through in spades. I grabbed the table side with buildings closer in the deployment zone, so his lascannon HWT could not start in an elevated position. Ratlings were infiltrated forwards to grab objectives early, but since I got first turn, I was able to torch one with my hull heavy flamer for first blood. On his turn 1 he had to advance his lascannon to a ruin, costing him full BS shooting, and I made a cover save against his autocannon team. I luckily scored 2 wounds with my multilaser against the lascannon, and he failed one of his 3+ cover saves and suffered ID. The jerks who exploded me last time were dead, so I decided not to be too concerned about his autocannon. He advanced a line of infantry towards the midfield objectives. So on turn 3, I turned 90 degrees with my Chimera, tank shocked 2 vets, making one fall back, and torched 3 more that thought they were safe in area terrain. I disembarked a couple guys to take care of those who weren't in flamer range. Turn 4, my last outflankers came in, so I stuck one vet behind a mountain/building where his autocannon was positioned, where I would safely hold linebreaker, out of everyone's LoS. I also killed enough of his 21 troops that I got break the enemy, and a number of his vets fled on his next turn, including his autocannon. There was also a CC between 2 of my disembarked vets and one of his remaining vets that lasted from the top of turn 4 to the bottom of turn 5, where one of my two vets came out victorious. I also tank shocked 2 more of his vets off another objective on turn 6, causing them both to fall back, and neither regrouped on his last turn, meaning a second objective was mine! The game ended 5-1 in my favor, his first loss in the league.

I hope that this was an interesting albeit long-winded read. There are 6 more weeks of the league, the final week being a 3 game tournament, so I'll definitely try to get some photos of some upcoming battles. If I end up winning any store credit, I can assure you all those funds are going straight into my Ork force... unless I start playing Blood Bowl. It's really fun. But I'd more than likely do an Orc team... so it counts? I don't know about that, but what I do know is that more Orky goodness and Kill Team games are on the way, and I have a week off to paint, so I could get quite a bit painted by my next update. Stay tuned for more, and thanks for following along!

Thanks for the support STG, I'm always happy to hear someone enjoys reading this thread.

A quick copy/paste from this month's painting challenge:

I also am going to get back to work on my Trukk scratchbuild. I'm thinking of doing a closed, armored cab as I don't have any Ork drivers available. Once I have a solid idea for how to execute the cab and undercarriage, I will be ready to finish construction on the project that's been waiting a while for it.

SPOILER ALERT: No pictures this update, I got too busy actually playing games. Sorry. If you want to read a lot about some Orky Blood Bowl antics, it's all in the spoiler due to length, shared for posterity. I'll be sure to make some more progress painting, and perhaps throw in some batreps with images, as this is a P&M blog after all.

Spoiler:
Yeah... So I ended up buying the new box set of Blood Bowl, and joined my FLGS' league to a moderate degree of success. I've been playing with some proxying and I essentially painted numbers on the unprimed green plastic minis and jumped on in, for which I am not proud. For that reason, I don't have any pictures, but I will definitely get to them, too, though I am unsure about how to do numbers, as changing them up has been necessary when certain players suffer a "miss next game" injury and a temporary has to fill my roster. Maybe I should put the numbers only on bases as opposed to on their shoulder pads? It's something I need to figure out and plan before proceeding.

I must comment on my relationship with Nuffle: if I'm rolling block dice, I tend to do well and do not often need rerolls; if I'm fouling (which I do fairly often), I never get caught unless I have a bribe/already have a big advantage in numbers/get a KO anyways; if I roll the dice for ball handling actions, theres a decent chance I get screwed over by 1s and 2s; and if I try to go for it, I will fail, especially if I try to reroll a failed gfi.. I've probably rolled 1s on about 50% of regular go for it rolls, and probably 75-80% of rerolls will be 1.

And I thought blocking looked more fun before I started actually playing... It's a good thing I play Orks! I run max blitzers, max black orks, two linemen and a thrower. A quick recap of how I've done so far coaching for Da Git Grinderz:

Game 1 I played against high elves. Not terribly exciting, as they kept dodging away from me before I could bash them too hard. I led for a while 1-0, but a very lucky long bomb saw the elves scoring for a tie late enough that I could not physically retake the lead in time. I managed to get a casualty with a black ork, and when he got MVP, I rolled double 6 for an increase to S5!

Game 2 was a bit nasty against Chaos Chosen. I kept his Minotaur down for a couple turns as I knocked it down early with a mine and it failed to do much in the first half... Until it suddenly got up and hit my S5 black Orc so hard that he had to sit out this game and the next... The Minotaur fell back over doing so. I got a score just before the half, and by KO'ing a ton of his beast men, I was able to prevent Chaos from scoring back, a 1-0 win for me. One of my blitzers got mighty blow, so perhaps he could start earning more casualties soon.

The third game was a bit of a headache and a grind against Chaos Dwarves, a team with a ludicrously high team rating, so I got to use Morg n Thorg to decent effect. I was forced to act with said ogre first every turn, and the go for it rolls/rerolls really started hurting. Both of us got very close to scoring a couple times, but each time we thwarted one another, so the game ended 0-0. No skills were earned this game, also the only game where I was so pressured that I didn't get to gather half my team around a downed player to foul the snot out of them.

My most recent game was aggravating, as I should've easily won 2-0 against Skaven but the score ended up 1-1. Why? A 1/36 chance to fail a go for it with a reroll made an ork fall as he was entering the end zone with the ball... Then Skaven snagged it, then I badshed them and took it back, then instead of risking go for it and dodge rolls, I tried a pass straight into the end zone that got intercepted by a gutter runner surrounded by orks. Then he escaped, made a long pass and scored on me. A third touchdown attempt with good odds of succeeding was thwarted before game's end... Thanks Nuffle. However, I did earn 5 pass completions and 4 casualties that game, including straight up murdering a Skaven blitzer with one of my linemen?

I also did some Kill Team this week, a friendly narrative battle between my own Orks and someone else's IG, awesome and cinematic, and a league game against Tau where despite having a big lead in VP, I won only by the skin of my teeth as I was very nearly tabled by a horde of fire warriors led by a crisis suit.

Unfortunately, it may be a while before I can get more pictures uploaded. My 6 (or possibly 7) year old dinosaur of a laptop with an SD slot looks like it's finally given out, with a grey screen of death that I haven't been able to fix this time. And unfortunately, my much more recently gifted laptop is almost as inexpensive as the former, and lacks SD compatibility entirely. As such, I cannot transfer from my camera to a computer at this time.

I'd like it to be known, however, that I have made some progress in my Ork painting; I have finished the last of my Grotz, making the entire unit ready to hit the table without shame. The first of my Blood Bowl Orks has also been finished, an Ork thrower who served me incredibly well in recent games. I have progressed on several Nobz, including my kustom made klaw nob, and a pair of Blood Bowl Ork linemen; they are somewhere in the neighborhood of 60% done. Finally, I have bumped up my Warboss and an Ork Boy whose destiny lies with a diverse cast of other Orks to the front of my painting queue, to be painted as soon as my WIP Nobz and linemen are complete.

Nice work here, Kiln. I can really see the progress in your painting skills over the course of this plog. Those grotz and the kopta are looking great.

And I like the salvage approach to your Orks. The conversions are coming out well. I'm looking forward to seeing an update on that trukk. Those boyz need a ride!

It's been a while.

Partly because I don't have the best means to get nice pictures uploaded, but I decided to stop dragging my feet and just deal with cell phone images for the time being. Please do excuse the slightly below par resolution of my images for a while.

Hobbywise, I haven't been wholly idle, so I thought I'd share my fully painted Boss Goldtoof, and the first of my Ork Dino Riders, counting as a Warbiker. Some kits I recently obtained include the AoS Saurus Knights (see below), the Trukk Boyz 2-in-1 set, and more Gretchin. I will have work hard from keeping the unclipped sprues from piling up any further.

First up, the Warboss:

Up next, the Klaw Nob, soon to be the leader of a pack of a whole pack of riders:

Note the bit of plasticard stuck in the shoulder joint of the big shoota (read: dakkagun) arm. While perhaps not the best executed adjustment, I needed to keep the large weapon from crossing inwards across the Nob's torso and face, and pointing towards the Cold One's head. The gun now points parallel with the direction both mount and rider are facing, which I am quite pleased with. If anyone has suggestions as how to make the seam more discrete, I will welcome any advice as always. Comments and constructive criticisms are of course welcome as well. Exciting times are ahead, so stay tuned!

More Dino Riders built!

I very deliberately used a wide range of weaponry on the riders to represent dakkaguns, but what do they all have in common? The guns are BIG. The first Boy here has an Ogryn ripper gun, aka the Big Slugga.

The biggest and baddest of the bunch, this Boy is toting an entire autocannon, complete with oversized bayonet.

Two volleyguns from the Taurox kit sit on either side of a lascannon power pack (hopefully one day a Grot will sit at the back to man the rig).

And a classic heavy stubber, which I feel looks really nice mounted on the saddle like it is.

And a group shot of all 5 so far, including the Bossnob hip-firing his big shoota:

I'm very excited to get down to painting once the 6th and 7th riders have been built (the 8th Cold One may or may not be reserved for a Painboy, depending on 8th edition rules). The Boyz are only lightly glued into place, so they'll be popped off later to ease the process of painting. What can I say, Ork conversions are very, very fun.

So, I found some AoS Orks at my FLGS that were separated from their original bases... And heads. I felt a bit bad for them, so I grabbed roughly half of them, all that I could scrounge up extra heads for. With a couple leftover sprues from an Ork Boyz box also in hand, I have the option to change out the double CC weapons. It feels good to do some more salvaging-- that's what got this blog started, after all.

Among the heads obtained included a couple really neat ones at the bottom left, one with a sunglasses-sporting chopper pilot kind of vibe, and another looks like an Orky Kommissar!

So, I have th bits necessary to create usable 40k Orks! How exactly should they be equipped?
- Replace arm(s) as needed for slugga/choppa Boyz
- Replace both arms and make 10 shoota Boyz
- Leave them as is and mix them in with slugga/choppa Boyz

I will soon work to get a group shot of my entire Ork force so far. I don't even know how much I have at this point, I think 40ish Boyz now, 8 Dino Riders, 5 Nobs, 3 Koptas, 2 Trukks, Warboss (and a partridge in a pear tree ). Next, I slow the intake of plastic crack and get painting! More is on the way, so stay tuned!

I use these boys as is and just mix them in with my slugga boys. Nobody notices.

If you have a mob of each already. A Shoota mob and a slug/chop mob then maybe a mix of both, just add a bit of variety to both mobs.

Or maybe you could use them for some special weapons options, burna boys, rokkit boys, flash gitz. Just go wild with plasticard and rod and greenstuff and botch up some proper orky specials!
Painting can wait when you got scratch building to do!

I've decided that since I bought roughly half of the Ork bodies available, with the rest unlikely to be purchased by someone else, I'll go half and half. The first 10 will make up a squad of shoota Boyz, and the remaining ones will keep their dual CC loadout for the sake of visual variety.

And too right you are! As a matter of fact, I turned my attention to my Trukk scratchbuild that was put on ice for far too long. But this time, I have a regulation (do Orks have those?) Trukk to use as a reference. The bits currently absent will be painted separately, then glued in once both sub-assemblies are done.

Guess what else? The truck bed and the engine block that I previously built-- without any knowledge of a proper Trukk's dimensions-- are spot on for size!

Even the bottle caps I'll be using as wheels are pretty much the same size as the plastic originals. Furthermore, with a better understanding of how the official Trukk kit fits together, I decided to recreate one of the largest pieces in the kit, the frame that everything else rests on. It was here that I thought back to one of my favorite and totally accurate quotes:

"Ask not what what extra sprues can do for you; ask what you can do with your sprue."
-Definitely what John F. Kennedy said at his inaugural address, 1961

And so I started clipping off sections of sprue, and shaping them down to nice, workable pieces...

And glued them together until I had a passable replica of the framework bit.

With this critical component built, the remaining work should be quite straightforward: mount the bed and engine to their respective places on the frame, position the wheels, axles, and hopefully a driveshaft underneath, and build the cab to fit the space between the bed and engine. I'll plan on keeping it very closed looking, like the front of the Taurox kit, to make up for the fact I don't have an extra Ork driver!

Progress has been made! The ball is rolling! Things will be done! Stay tuned for more of it!

All those uncanny size guesses... If it wasn't for the occasional hand in some of your pics I'd sware you were a greenskin.

Unless that's a severed limb you're using to hold things in place while you take photos...

It's been a long time. A long, long time. So long, almost everything about my life is different. Different school, now employed full time, I even went from single to engaged in the 3+ years I've been away. But we're into nerdy stuff, so it's been providing motivation to get back into some hobby-ing!

First up, remember this guy?

We're gonna make him worthy of counting as Thraka if it kills me. (It might. Hopefully not. Maybe it'll take 5 more years. We'll see). We need to give him our own paint scheme and convert him further than how I found him. I also finally found LA's Totally Awesome hiding in plain sight at a local dollar store. Into the dip he goes!

While the old paint slowly denatures into aqueous sludge, I'm planning on upgrading that rather boring looking, if big, axe. Thraka has an awesome Klaw, right? Let's plan out an awesome Klaw for an awesome Boss. The chainsaws from Sentinel kits and the missile launcher housing are my must-have bits, but I'm unsure what other gubbins I'll add or how I'll do the bottom prong.

Next up, I have completed two of the Ork Dino Riders (warbikers) I built years ago, with several more primed or partially painted.

Might need to touch up the second Rider's yellow collar some, but I'm rather proud of the texture on the scales. Hopefully my poor photography abilities do them some justice.

I also really want a Biker Boss. But a Warboss might not fit on one poor dinosaur, with all that weaponry and gear. My Solution? I'll take my last two off their bases and stick 'em onto a bigger one (which matches the Biker Boss base approximately), then buy myself a secondhand Warboss (Grukk?), and put him in a nice Orky chariot drawn by the pair! It'll be rather cozy on the base, but they'll fit with their feet near the front edge while saving room for a nice scratch build behind.

I also acquired more minis since my last update long ago. Most recently, I acquired 5 Nobz and 3 double-saw Meganobz secondhand and in need of love, who I can provide images for later. Unfortunately, the regular Nobz are now on 32mm bases and my original Black Reach Nobz are on 25mm bases. I also bought 5 used Boyz with Rokkit Launchas counting as Tankbustas and 5 used Stormboyz. I really wish Stormboyz weren't 12ppm right now, I'd love to field them when it's safer to have games at the FLGS.

I did buy or receive a few new kits as well. This includes another box of Gretchen (20 total now), 5 more Stormboyz (10 total), and a Painboy. The first complete Stormboy and my 75% complete Painboy are here to say 'ello world!

Don't worry about the other Boyz. I don't have pictures, but I spent last weekend starting to batch paint them. Thankfully, my fiancee actually likes priming models, which is by far my least favorite step, so it really increased productivity and motivation to just give them some color already. Why does she like priming? Apparently not having to worry about developing or adhering to a color scheme and gradually coating the whole thing without stopping can be found relaxing (I did get her to paint a Termagant a while back though, it's a really good "First Model Ever").

On the other hand, my Trukks are going to have to wait a bit while the soon-to-be Thraka and potentially a Biker Boss got bumped up in the cool conversion queue. Plenty more to do, plenty more to see! Stay tuned, next post will definitely be a shorter wait than this one!
