FWIW, we use HH rules, but all of our games are in a pre-Heresy setting. So far we have a a guy who plays Luna Wolves (using Sons of Horus rules), one guy playing Space Wolves, I play 2nd as pre-Heresy traitors, and a friend does the same with 11th. Both of us use fluff so that our legions met their separate fates before the events of the Horus Heresy.

It's a useful brand name and nicely copywrite-able, but go to page 183 of book one for the title; "Battles in the Age of Darkness & Space Marine Legion Crusade Army List"
The next page has the title "age of darkness battles" and at the bottom is the "age of darkness force organisation chart"
Opposite that is the "Allies in the Age of Darkness" chart.
It happens again in book two on page 161; "Battles in the Age of Darkness"
And again in book three, page 199: "A Mechanicum Army List for Battles in the Age of Darkness"

The horus heresy (like you say) is about marines fighting marines at first but the army lists we've been given are for more than just the nine year heresy - hence the 'age of darkness' thing.

"jack of all trades, master of none; certainly better than a master of one"
The Ordo Reductor - the guy's who make wonderful things like the Landraider Achillies, but can't use them in battle..

Well, it's a nice sales pitch to get people buy more models. GW (not even FW) is gonna stop you from buying Eldar, even if they have to undermine their own brand.

But that is the entire problem.

By diluting their HH-brand like this, they're both diminishing it's own value and aren't doing any favours to Xenos, who'd be more deserving of their own "dedicated historical period"-treatment, rather than be an accountant's add-on on pages 161 and 199 to make sure you can play any and all GW-models in that Space Marines civil-war, if you want to.

It's a suprise there is no paragraph on page 287 or so that allows you Stormcast Eternals in the HH as well.

With the exception of a few of the legions, the Horus Heresy is an absolute EPIC story. There's nothing else I've read anywhere else that has the same scale as the Horus Heresy (and I'm a big fan of the HALO games *and* novels). I would love to play as some of the big names of the Horus Heresy age.

It'd be great to be able to play a DA army with Lion El'Johnson and Luther as my HQ. And, even back in those days, at least the Space Marines and Ravenwing existed for DA.

The figures from FW for those characters, though, are incredibly expensive which keeps me from investing in them. But, I think that'd be a lot of fun to play just from a lore/story point of view.

Kill Team - T'au Empire, Death Guard
Warhammer Underworlds - Garrek’s Reavers

I was hoping that they would do a seperate crusade series TBH - i liked the idea of fighting the xenos races made extinct long before 40k.

I see occasional plea's to GW/FW to make an imperial armour book to allow FW mechanicum models to be used with Codex:Adeptus Mechanicus but recently that has me worried - it would mean other players would immediately assume that i was playing C:AdM when i am a 30k Ordo Reductor purist.

I know it will be essentially no different, but when i play a pick-up game, i like to think that i've dragged someone else kicking and screaming into 30k.

Just had a thought - at some point we get the Custodes at the imperial palace and those models may be ripe for a conversion!

This would be cool. I'd take a look at something like this for sure.

I'd like some rules and models for Necrontyr vs. Old Ones.
