It's essentially the forces of Order vs the forces of Chaos. That said the Imperiun, the Tau and the Eldar are probably on the side of Order so things would be easier if they won and didn't fight each other.

That is literally what Age of Sigmar did.

I suspect there will be a similar AoS "reset" in 40k in the near future.

At least I hope there will be. Some things need freshening up in my opinion.

Watch out brother, you're delving into an quite contentious opinion.
That being said, any continuation of the 40K plotline won't maintain a clear winner.
It would probably just end up being a HH type of thing, where entirely new armies are sold.
Some models kept, most models new and an entirely new paint line.

- 10000+ pts
Imperial Knights- 5 Standard Knights / 3 Cerastus Knights
Officio Assassinorum - 4 Assassins
CSM - 500pts? Maybe? Its from the Officio Assassinorum box so I'm pretty sure its not enough to run in a CAD
Vampire Lords- I have no idea I bought it like two days before I left country and they're still in storage so I'll have to see when I get back.]

Well whomever it is they need to be immune to chaos influence, farsighted, committed to destroying galaxy wide threats like the nids, have a full mastery over technology, and a history of victory against impossible odds. So yeah, the Necrons, you thought i was going to say Tau didn't you.

A history against impossible odds? Most of the time they have the impossible odds in their favor.

Eldar (Craftworld) they should rise up in redemption and defeat Slaanesh and the remaining Chaos Gods and then turn to defeat the Necrons that have awoken. Based off what I've read in various eldar novels I dont see the Eldar exterminating races like mankind given that they can see a reflection of themselves in everything humanity has accomplished. The imperium should fall, and the eldar would ruthlessly cut down any people who would cause them trouble or loss of life, but that's just defending their own people. I've always seen the eldar as more of the "Good Guys" of the setting and I stand by that, so if anyone wins ill always vote for the Craftworlds.
