If humanity wins, then the Imperium will have exterminated every xenos, every shred of chaos, and finally be at peace. The Inperium would change and could finally return to a golden age.

The Imperium is what it is because of the enemy being everywhere. Once it is gone the Imperium eventually collapses due to no wartime to occupy the void. Something better would.come about.

Humanity deserves to win. They've always been fethed over by the other races.

Eldar created Slaneesh and threw off the unity of humanity with warpstorms.

Orks have been a plague a living fungus that doesn't have a culture of anything beyond fighting.

Chaos... Horus Heresy

Necrons? Sold their souls for immortality, see the humans as batteries essentially.

Tau? There is a reason they always provoke arguments in threads. They don't belong in 40k.

On the contrary, it makes the setting that much more compelling that the only faction that is good, in the standard sense that there are good guys in sci-fi and fantasy, is not primarily human.

Without the Tau, the Imperium would be the closest faction to good in the setting, and they combine the worst elements of every tyrannical human government IRL and crank it up to 42.

With the Tau to show that a faction can be good, the Imperium can be seen as the monster that it is.

Humanity doesn't deserve to win, the Offico Assassinorum and the Grey Knights deserve to win.
They are the only ones who gave up everything, every pleasure, sense of self, even happiness just to serve the Emperor.
Even the forces of Chaos cannot command such loyalty from their subjects.
Not one Grey Knight has fallen to corruption in all their years of existence.
The very few instances of the Officio Assassinorum contain either a muddled or compleat lack of motive.
The only outright rebellion of an Assassinorum operative was experimental anyways, and the Imperium (and Officio) paid dearly for it.

I would include the Inquisition in their number, but what they do is a fine line between glorious and heresy.

Orks.

No shady motives and no political corruption. Just an orky utopia. A very violent and funny utopia, but for Orks that's just fine.

Ok, I've changed my mind. The Tau deserve to win, if only because of how much they seem to annoy some people.

There would be nerdriots.
People would type harder than they've ever typed before. Caps Lock and bad reviews would plague the internet for years to come.
/tg/ would crash, never to return.

Hello. I have signed this sheet of recommendation as I've seen potential Inquisitor qualities in you.
Take it and present it to your nearest Imperial outpost for transfer.

Emperor be with you.

The only faction who doesn't take complete stupid decision all the time.
oh wait... that's everything they do.

But really, I think the Ork should win. They are what other species (even Real Life Human) want to obtain: A simple life, where there is no regret.

I use to play Ork (I don't anymore sadlly) and I have to say that they are my favorite. They are ruthless, somehow intelligent (ok, lets not fight over the word intelligent. lets just say that they can do amazing stuff and without even learning how) and they don't want the galaxy for power or some typical 'human' (or any other race in 40k) reason. They do it because it's shiny and why not!

The Tyranids deserve to 'win.' They are entirely clean of filthy politics, ugly betrayals, or even individually self-serving motives. Once every life form in the universe is consumed and they too fade away, there will be no wrongs left to commit.

Orks are already winning. They live to fight and there is plenty to fight so their are plenty of happy Orks. If everything else dies then they fight each other. If all the Orks die then they died fighting so it doesn't count as losing. If there is eternal war then they win because the fighting never stops. No situation for the Orks is truly a loss for them. In the grim dark future there is only war, and happy Orks.

It's essentially the forces of Order vs the forces of Chaos. That said the Imperiun, the Tau and the Eldar are probably on the side of Order so things would be easier if they won and didn't fight each other.

However as Humanity has learnt in the past. The Xenos are filthy and when Humanity tried to live peacefully with them before they ended up getting back stabbed. So follow the Emperors rule and burn the Xenos!

I concur that no one deserves to win. The question isn't even relevant to the Grimdark setting. Almost by definition there are no factions you can point to as the 'good guys'. All factions are willing to resort to all kinds of villainy to achieve their goals. All factions display martial virtue on some level (courage, sacrifice, etc.). You can identify for or against any faction depending on how you spin them.

It's very Darwinian. It's also a conscious design choice. GW wants you to feel free to choose any faction(s) you like... And spend money on them, of course.

My two cents.

Well whomever it is they need to be immune to chaos influence, farsighted, committed to destroying galaxy wide threats like the nids, have a full mastery over technology, and a history of victory against impossible odds. So yeah, the Necrons, you thought i was going to say Tau didn't you.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.
