Alright, I'm back and got some more paint on my Venom Knight here. So I painted around each of the "growths" with a dessert yellow and washed the entire thing with a fleshtone. Next step is a white drybrush to accentuate the paleness.

Will the metals be done or kept black with some hughlights? Looks epic!

Most of the armor bits will be purple to fit my Dark Eldar Scheme, but the metal blades and the engine will be a dark metal color, and of course, very bloodied and what-not.

Will you use GW's blood paint? Do it. It's awesome!

NorCal

Very solid.

If you want to play around with Nurgle's Rot from the technical paint line, I've found it to be outstanding on organic areas. Gives a "wet" finish and increases the contrast between organic and mechanical. It also has the cool effect of bringing out whatever underlying colors were in your layers. There is a slight "yellowish" tint to things, but you can fiddle with some watered down wash to dull that down a bit. Just a thin glaze after you've done your basic highlighting, but before you do your serious detail work.

Yes, another DE Covens nut! I love your work. I'm currently converting two Bloodreavers from AoS into Wracks, so I was wondering if you recommended any materials to use? (specifically what did you use for the white stuff on the Defilier's claws?)

Good luck in your efforts, and if you're ever interested we could discuss tactics.

Looking forward to your results

Oh, what wonders I'm going to make of your parts.

Peter Wiggin: I'll have to keep that tech. paint in mind. All my paints are 2 or 3 generations old, so I am out of the loop on how the new ones work.

Dullmacher: the white plastic I used is from an iPhone box. It's the interior plastic tray that the phone and charger and stuff fits into. Great to hang onto as it's really thin, flexible and easy to cut. As you can see on his facemask, I was able to bend it all the way around, holding it in place by just 3 paperclip pins.

As for other material, green stuff is always used in excess. I also found that Necron Spine pieces like from the Ghost Ark are good for their overgrown back. I used a lot of horn bits too, like off of a Bloodletter head.

Well he got broke. Just a couple parts came off his back when a loose piece of wood fall on him. The house is still in disarray from the move. I guess tomorrow's project will be to get him back together.

It's been a long time since I posted on this. I was running a tournament and had to spend a month making some extra terrain, but now I'm back. So I fixed the damage and started painting again, focusing on his back. I got the tentacles looking all bloody and meaty, and started to paint the liquid vials. Next up I paint the rest of the vials metal and wash it all in black to give it the layered look. I may go over the tentacles in gloss finish to bring out the gore.

Yup he's back. I will be working on him more in the coming days/weeks. I have to distract myself from a conversion project that I can't currently afford...

I want to make a Corpsethief Claw which requires 5 Taloi, I plan to convert them from Stormfiends, which are $65 for 3, so the whole thing will cost me $130. I can't really justify putting that much down right now, so I am going to be working on Venom here to keep my mind busy.

LaCacty - the corpsetheif claw is a formation of one unit of talos comprised of 5 models. I plan to use the Skaven Stormfiends to make my own Talos models.

Will you use the stormfiend heads or make them like big(ger) Grotesques?

I plan to use the heads from the Talos. So like big grotesques.

Sorry I haven't posted any new shots of Venom-knight. I've been working on a few last minute things for a tournament this weekend.

So today I finished the vials on his back and the engine. For the vials I just painted the metal parts and washed it heavily in black to give it texture and a darker look. The engine I drybrushed several red/orange colors and some black at the seam where it emerges from the flesh. My hope was to make it look as if blood had seeped out and stained the metal. I also started to work on the hoses to his mask. I wanted to wash those today, but I want to wait until the mask is done first, then I can wash it all together. I also started to get the purple on the armor plates done as well.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
