Not in the sense that I regret either of my current armies (Tau and Dark Angels) but I want to start an Eldar army, a Blood Angels army, a grey knights army, a tyranid army.... etc.

So many good models, I can't afford them all though :(

For the greater good...

Yes and no. I love my first army but there were times I wished that they had not been my army of choice:

I started with Dark Angels/Deathwing mixed lists in 3rd edition. I was happy as hell to play with them. Then 4th came, then 5th... and I really was unhappy. I started new armies but never gave up on or sold my Dark Angels as they were my first army.

6th came around and I started to have a lot of fun with the new codex. Now 7th edition has landed

Yes. BA have been poor now for most of my 40K career. 2nd ed codex: awful. WD codex: awful. 6th and 7th ed incarnations: awful.

Funny, I started with space wolves when I was in 6th grade. Now, I regret that big time. That's the last army 27 year old me would've picked. Unfortunately I built and painted about 6k points of SW that just sit in my closet collecting dust now.

Chaos gets in your blood and stays and festers....

I made the mistake of selling off my nurgle, slaanesh and tzeentch CSM armies years ago and sticking with my long term standard and starting khorne marines and as soon as all were gone on ebay I completely regretted it and spent the next couple years reacquiring all of the OOP pieces I had in the armies again. Tzeentch was kind of small at the time, but the new incarnation is much bigger and uses a bunch of converted Tomb Kings minis to further highlight the Egyptian feel. So in that case the army came out better than it was to begin with. The other two got back to where they were and have been added to through the years since. Khorne is still my primary choice, but I can't let the others go either apparently.

My CSM army is largely sold off now, but there's quite a bit of stuff left that was ruined by n00b painting attempts. Thankfully, my original Daemon Prince got the better end of the painting, and I still hold onto him. I got regret in being so bad at modelling and painting, at getting an army with such terrible rules and a complete lack of interest from GW, and at then getting rid of the good bitz.

Still, Sedecim (the DP) will be hanging around for a long time, even if he has lost his old axe, and has been repainted from blue to black.

Sometimes I wish I hadn't started Eldar back in 2007 so i could avoid all the bandwagon, cheese, and hatred comments that came along with it.

I would never give up my old CSM models with their 'newb" attempts.
Black with gold trim, simple right?
Needed someone early-on to tell me that painting a base color before laying on the metallic is a good way to go...
Bad transitions from the metallics to the black, mixed the water so they have glitter to their black (ready for the disco with Slannesh), the deep green golf course bases... classics!
No edge highlighting, what the heck are shade washes??
The extra course gravel on the base looks like they are walking on green painted golf balls.
The 3-4 layers of clear coat give that fantastic fly in the amber look, those models will outlive me and possibly my children.

I guess there is no regretting your past, it makes you what you are today.

A revolution is an idea which has found its bayonets.

Despite your penchant for hyperbole, I am having a hard time disagreeing with you on this. I just ordered a Drop Pod (used) for my Blood Angels, and that is the last they will be getting for a while. Truthfully, it might even be my last 40K purchase altogether.

Not necessarily. "There are deer outside my house" is not the same as "There's 5,000 deer outside my house". Both convey truth, one's just a hyperbole.

I'm currently in the same boat, I have a BA army that I just bought and am wishing I had got SW instead, but I will soldier on with them, and I'm going to force myself to stick with them... I'm a notorious army switcher and I think its starting to annoy my gaming group and they have lost a lot of respect due to my lack of commitment and my Mrs hates the constant painting and assembling

You might always get SW and decide you hate them anyway! Better save yourself the money

It was very out of character for me not to start SW in the first place. I am mostly of Scandinavian descent and really like reading viking lore (home state sports team is the Minnesota Vikings), and love tunes and stuff. Also really like wolves and almost ended up getting my degree in wildlife studies to formally study them. So the fusion of the two should have been a no brainer.

Nids. I love the story and the models, but I HATE the rules GW has come up for them, so much so I'm in the process of writing my own so I can not regret having them.

I think I am going to do much the same for the Blood Angels, using Codex: Space Marines as a basis and filling in the gaps. I think I could probably do a better job than GW.

You don't even have to totally rewrite the rules. All you have to do is give Blood Angels access to the Gladius, WS/BS4 Scouts, Doctrines, Dreadnoughts with four attacks base (Furiousos and DC Dreads have five), some new formations and a special detachment. Boom. New and improved Blood Angels codex.

It's so easy it's practically criminal that GW hasn't done this yet.

I started with Eldar, and it is my biggest army, so no problem there.

No problem with branching to Imperial Guard or SM / CSM or whatever.

The problem is that I simply bought far too much of everything. I should have stopped at 5,000 pts of Eldar, 3,500 pts of Guard, 3,000 pts of (C)SM - cutting those armies in half. Then trim the other large forces by 25-35% to 3,000 pts of Dogs of War, etc.

I'd still have the armies, but I'd just have less stuff that never / rarely gets played.
