Right..on what hero would you put the runeblade on? I like the runeblade on heros whos weakness is strong melee weapons with low attacks.
I was thinking the beguiling gem might be cool combined with several formations that also have -1 to hit.

I find myself using the Chaos Runeblade, Chaos Talisman, and Favor of the Gods. The latter two are if I want to keep a hero alive; +1 wound for 5-wound heroes or the extra 6+ 'ward save' for characters with 6+ wounds. The former is pretty self-explanatory.

Put the Runeblade on a hero with a high-rend weapon with few attacks. My go-to is the Khorne Skullgrinder.

Honestly I'd give the skullgrinder an extra wound and just let the bloodsecrators + aspiring deathbringer's command ability (you know you took him as a general!) buff out the attacks.

An extra +1 attack is always welcome. I rarely find one extra wound to make much difference. If I'm not using the Runeblade on the Skullgrinder, I'll sometimes use the Talisman to give him basically a 6+ FNP. And after I used the Aspiring Deathbringer as my general one time, I wondered why I had ever used anything else. A group of 20 Bloodreavers with 5 attacks each on meatripper axes makes anyone nervous.

Its funny because while Khorne has great synergy overall due to all the support models, on the whole Khorne command abilities are pretty crappy. Most of it is just benefits for/to charging which Khorne already does just fine. Nurgle is the opposite; the support between basic unit abilities is lackluster overall but the command abilities available are sweet.

I use the same items as NinthMusketeer.
Giving your 5 wound heroes +1 wound is a really big deal. If you combine this with the ability to heal D3 wounds from Tallyband, 4+ save, and disgustingly resilient roll makes them fairly survivable. For the GUO and other 6+ wounds models that extra 5-6+ FNP save is crazy good especially against mortal wounds and the cannons/artillery try pick them off. I sometimes rarely use the +1 attack, but I usually really need those heroes to live since I have so few of them in my lists.

I just tried out my rotbringers army for the first time last night. I got my butt kicked by stormcast who had protectors with 2+ re rollable saves and 6s healing a wound. It was brutal.. but the blight kings were dishing out TONS of damage. It was very encouraging. Once I learn the army more and how to play I'm sure it will he better. my list:
1480/1500
lord of plagues (100)
-general. Great destroyer, beguiling gem
rotbringer sorcerer (100)
chaos sorcerer lord (140)
-mark of nurgle
festus the leechlord (120)
blightkings x5 (180)
blightkings x5 (180)
blightkings x5 (180)
blightkings x5 (180)
plagueberers x10 (100)
plagueberers x10 (100)
(summoned in)
blightguard battalion (100)
I picked up a glotkin on eBay for $50 so I can either add that in (blightguard battalion and glotkin is exactly 1500) or use him to beef it up to 2k. Would like to get some drones to
summon in or even try to summon in a demon prince for speed and rend. The -1 to hit battalion wide is so awesome!! Injust wish there was more ways to add +1 to hit !!!!

Well the UK Masters just finished. The top 16 players in the UK all participated. Regretfully, there were no Nurgle lists or even a single GUO at the event. The alliance spread was pretty good for the top 5:
1st Place: Death
2nd Place: Death
3rd Place: Order
4th Place: Destruction
5th Place: Chaos
I really looking forward to getting a new Nurgle battletome so players can start representing Papa Nurgle at these events.

Are there any rumors that this is in the works? or is it just because the DoT came out and it seems likely they will eventually do the other chaos gods as well. I assume Slaanesh would be next in some sort of big release of books and models. And khorne daemons dont have any battletome, but dont bloodbound have a book??

There's no rumors for Nurgle releases. I'd expect it to be 2018 at the least before we get anything, since Slaanesh is probably next. Nurgle is in a good place overall though; the current tournament-winning options are simply OP. If those get nerfed Nurgle will be viable at the top level without changes. But with GW's track record for balance its really a complete crapshoot; Nurgle may get nerfed to Dispossessed level, get buffed to be the next OP faction, or anywhere in-between.
[edit] Not to say that Nurgle sucks or anything; certainly a skilled Nurgle player could go to the big tournaments and not get crushed and we have seen them do well in smaller tournaments.

thays what I figured.
Question: In your opinion, is glotkin worth his points cost without his command ability? Maybe at that point a soul grinder would be a more efficient option for a behemoth with some shooting and general damage.

I am not sure who will be next Chaos Battletome Slaanesh or Nurgle. I know that Nurgle has a much larger following than Slaanesh and that could influence GW's decision one way or another. It really depends on the release schedule for AoS this year. If it is at the same rapid rate as last year then it very well could be in 2017. Last year they released 5 Order battletomes, 2.5 Chaos battletomes (everchosen is .5), 3 Destruction battletomes, and 1 Death battletome. I am not sure if they plan on keeping these proportional in 2017.
I don't really see GW nerfing the powerful tournament armies since that is a very unpopular approach. It is more likely GW will try to bring the "Average" armies such as Nurgle to the same power level. This actually sells more models and makes people much happier.
In the next GHB2 I think if Nurgle gets some points reductions they can become an "above average" army. To become a top tier competitive list they will need some new units, allegiance skills, increased synergy or battlion formations. Right now they are just really resilient and lack damage, speed, or shooting to successfully win consistently in objective based missions currently in the GHB.

No the only thing that makes the Glottkin worth even close to 480 points is his command ability. Right now Nurgle has 2 good command abilites. The Glottkin's +1 attack is pretty huge (but costs 480 pts) and the Harbinger of Decay's 7" ward save bubble (cheap unit but small range and only works on MORTAL units). If you don't use The Glottkin's command ability you are far better off to run 2x GUOs (if you want big monsters) or 6x Plague Drones.

I would say yes, but barely. Honestly I would pay upwards of 650 for Glottkin as the general just because that command ability is so good. Without it they lose their biggest strength and I would have a hard time justifying a cost more than 450.

Totally understood on all fronts. I asked because I like the glotkin but I think the harbinger of decay is vastly more useful in a blightguard list. I just have a glotkin and basically need it to fill out points for me at this point. (To get into local friendly tournaments which are 2000). If I think I'd rather have a soul grinder (amazing conversion opportunity as well!) and harbinger Plus leftover points rather than glotkin. I'll have to test drive it..
Anyways.. don't laugh to much but this is what I'm bringing to local friendly tournament (nova prep - last year our group took 1,2 and 4!) mostly because it's all the models I own..
Leaders
The Glottkin (480)
Festus The Leechlord (120)
Lord of Plagues (100)
Rotbringers Sorcerer (100)
Battleline
5 x Putrid Blightkings (180)
- Mortal Nurgle Battleline
5 x Putrid Blightkings (180)
- Mortal Nurgle Battleline
5 x Putrid Blightkings (180)
- Mortal Nurgle Battleline
5 x Putrid Blightkings (180)
- Mortal Nurgle Battleline
Units
Battalions
Blight Guard (100)
Total: 1620/2000
Reinforcement points 380
Like I said this is based off what models I have available. My summoning options are to 2x plaguebearers, one Nurgle demon prince, one herald of nurgle, 3X plague drones. I will most likely someone in the plague bearers onto objectives, and can summon in a demon prince for a bit of punch, or the playgrounds whatever the situation warrants.
I also have a chaos sorcerer I could add ( 1 L leader slot available) to reduce the large reinforcement pool. I'm open to thoughts but like I said this is what I'm rolling with because of model availability. But I think I have rambled on enough already ha ha ha...

The Glottkin really works well with Plaguebearers and Plaguedrones. Blightkings he can also work well and gives about a 33% damage bonus. His command ability and fleshy abundance spell make a unit of Plaguebearers a pretty potent threat by literally doubling their damage and wounds. Without his command ability I wouldn't pay more than 350pts for him in my list (maybe less).
If you are not going to use the Glottkin command ability I really think getting 6x Plaguedrones is a much better option and costs 40-pts less. Plaguedrones always move 8", can be added to Tallyband to regen wounds, are more than double the Glottkin's resilience, have a save against mortal wounds, can secure objectives better (in 5/6 missions), can do mortal wounds with locus ability, can regen models with banner, can fly over terrain and models, etc. It really isn't even close of a compeition.
Looking at the models you said you had you could run a daemon prince and 3x Plaguedrones which work well together. Remember if you take any daemons in your list you will need to take at least 30 Plaguebearers to fufill your battleline requirements. This is due to the fact Blightkings lose this benifit with anything other than NURGLE MORTALS.
The good news is that Plaguebears are a solid battleline unit. Their -1 to hit in combat (20+), -2 to hit in shooting(20+), -1 to hit in shooting (always), rerolling armor saves of 1 (locus), rerolling disgustingly resilient saves of 1 (locus), regaining models on battleshock rolls of 1, and gaining D3 models from Tallyband formation makes them ideal objective holders.

Going off what you have there, you have the right idea. The only real question is list is if you want to do the Blightguard formation or the Plaguetouched Warband, since you have enough units to do the latter. You will lose the re-roll 1s to wound benefit but the -1 to hit in melee will be on the Glottkin & Festus as well, and perhaps more importantly it would allow you to deploy your whole army at once since they would all be in the same battalion, which can be essential in securing turn choice.

if I did go with the plague touched war band, I would almost have to group the Blake Kings into units of 10 to take advantage of grandfathers favor..correct? If that is the case then I would also need a third battleline unit⦠So either some marauders or another unit of blight kings.
I really really really wish that adding pestilence units didn't break my mortal nurgle allegiance⦠Aren't they "mortal"
The only reason why I didn't build around the plague touched war band in the first place, is because of the multiple of seven requirement. It would be a no-brainer if I could Pay the points for the two extra blade Kings to reach th seven. Blightguard is/was a solid second option.
I hope I am not being annoying or demanding the attention away from this de facto nurgle discussion thread and focusing on solely my specific circumstances

You would be ignoring the Grandfather's Favor benefit, like you said there isn't an effective way of getting Blightkings in multiples of 7.
And you are fine discussing this, it's still focusing on Nurgle and Nurgle armies and the information could be useful to others as well.

I'm intrigued with coming up with a nice mortal nurgle list with Bloab rotspawned, (festus could be a nice way to heal since he doesn't have a healing ability, while also dishing out - to save rolls helping your lack of rend ) the blight guard and multiple beguiling gem artifacts. The battalion has -1 to hit, bloab adds a 50% chance for a further -1 to hit in combat, and beguiling gems can either make a -3 to hit (!) or help out when bloabs ability doesn't go off. Combine with a harbinger of decay and you have an a ridiculously hard to hit battalion that has 3+ saves, additional 5+ save against mortal and regular wounds, and can dish out some serious punishment
All that combined is about 1500 points. but it could be pretty fun!!

That would likely be an effective build, Bloab works well with both another wizard and with a Harbinger general.

Even more scary if you could fit Epidemus into your list and get him 21 kills. Suddeny you gain an extra +1 armor save bonus, a -2 to hit with and a 5+ ward save. You then gain the ability to heal back some wounds in the hero phase. That is going to be stupid hard to kill. The biggest weakness of it is that small 7" range you have to stay within. The problem becomes in almost every scenario the objectives are spread out way more than that.

Had the tournament last night. First game was against an ironjaws list with a caster on a balewind, for foot of gork shenanigans. Gordack and a bunch of brutes and black orks. Mission was border war (4 objectives) It was a minor victory for him based on kill points as I was able to hold two objectives with plaguebeaers and hold off his army on the front lines with the blightguard. I had a difficult time rolling a 6 on 2d6 to summon the beaers. They didnt come in until turn 3 or 4. really inhibited my progress. glotkin took out 2-3 squads of infantry before being stepped on by gork (or possibly mork) >_<
Second game was really fun. Another minor victory for him (Free Peoples). He had 2x swordsman, 1 block of great swordsmen, celetrial hurricanum, a big dragon and crossbow men. It was Take and hold. He turtled. I INSTANTLY saw the benefit of a harbinger of decay when the celetrial hurricanum dropped a meteor on glotkin and did 12 mortal wounds. He and festus took back 5 wounds, but he was blasted by crossbow-men next turn. the blight guard hit his front lines almost untouched. I just didnt have the space to get good positioning. Also poor tactics on my part in terms of positioning. The great swordsmen hurt. -1 to hit didnt matter because they had so many buffs. blightguard did take the dragon down in one round of combat..that was dope AF. I tried so hard to move his infantry off the objective. He never sniffed mine. Minor victory for him as I onyl killed 700 points worth. He killed glotkin and two blight guard units so 840.
I withdrew from the third round. They started 1.5-2 hours late because of late arrivals and I NEEDED to watch the late football game. Since the third round would have ended after halftime.. I just couldnt stay. But It was friendly and another left as well so it evened out. But I had a gak load of fun. forgot a lot of synergies and buffs..because of my inexperience.
I also see the need for some long range shooting so I might try to "ally" with pestilense and get some PCC.
Just thought I'd share my experience. I hope to represent papa nurgle better next time. We always post a write-up of the tournament in this forum look for (AoS northern Virginia monthly post)

Well the Las Vegas Grand Tournament just finished. No Nurgle lists or even Nurgle models in the top 10 lists. It is really regretful seeing the Plaguefather doing so poorly in tournaments. I really am hoping this a new Nurgle battletome gets released soon or at least significant points cuts in the GHB2. I would like to see them become competitive again in competitive play.
