Thanks for the comments, everyone!

This thread somehow made it to Dakkadakka's front page, and I found myself compelled to make a little update to celebrate that fact, and to give a bit of an update on the various projects I'm working on

I must admit that I've been hobby-butterflying a lot again lately, which makes it a bit difficult to post worthwhile updates (a string of "I did a thing!" and "I completely forgot about the previous thing and did something else!" messages wouldn't be much fun to read, would it? ). I've also been rather occupied with my internship, which has been a fun, if rather exhausting experience thus far.

One of the things I've been working on is the group of Chaos Feudal worlders I built some time ago (funnily enough, these guys were also the last update of my original Chaos thread!). Here's a few pics of them:

Erasmus Kzar, Butcher of the Western Reach, Tyrant of the Southern Marshes

Erasmus Kzar was once a mere Sergeant in an Expeditionary Fleet of World Eaters Legion, serving dutifully alongside his brethren in the Emperor's Great Crusade. Kzar quickly discovered that his greatest talent was not his martial prowess, but his oratory skills. With the power of his voice alone he could marshal the Astartes under his command effectively even when they were fully in the throes of the Nails. Later, during the Heresy, he grew dissatisfied with his rank and began to plot against his superiors.

Eventually, Kzar slew the Expeditionary Fleet commander in a duel, thereby taking control of the entire warhost. En-route to the rest of the Legion, the fleet was cast adrift, appearing unexpectedly in an isolated Loyalist system. Kzar unleashed bloody havoc upon the worlds in the system, conquering them in violent, brutal battles.

Through it all, his powerful voice guided his brethren into organized assaults, displaying an acumen for strategy previously thought anathema to the World Eaters' way of war. Dark whispers claim that he carefully avoided the implementation of the Nails, but the infamous atrocities he conducted proved otherwise.

By the time the system had been fully conquered, Kzar was a changed man. Rather than continuing the battle against the Loyalists elsewhere, he began to rebuild the ruined worlds into his own personal domain. He began to see himself as a true leader of men, greater than his peers - even greater than his Primarch. His vanity went so far that he had specialized armour crafted in the image of that worn by his father, and proclaimed himself as true heir to the World Eaters.

What eventually happened to Kzar after the Heresy is unknown to Imperial scholars, but dark whispers still speak of the atrocities committed by the golden-armoured tyrant in the farthest corner of the galaxy...

The Tyrant's Hand

Knight of the Order of the Bloody Gauntlets

Under the Tyrant's reign the military forces of the old kingdoms were drastically reformed, turning once loyal and brave noblemen into a group of self-serving sadists, who terrorize the local populace for sport. The Knights of the Bloody Gauntlet are but one of the many orders within the ranks of the Tyrant's armies, each vying for more power and influence in the Tyrant's court.

One important change to note is the bastardized form of Power Armour these men are clad in. From where it comes or how it is made is unknown, but it has become the norm within the armies of the Agusta sector, suggesting the existence of a Forge world or Mechanicus outpost gone rogue.

Retainer

This simple footsoldier serves (rather unwillingly) as the Tyrant's retainer, keeping his Lord's mighty daemonic sword safe until his liege requires it. One would think that to be a great honour, but the Tyrant's soldiers dread being chosen as the sword's bearer, as staying in close proximity of it for too long has rendered many of its guardians insane; some even changing into terrible monstrosities, of which even the bravest soul dares not speak...

Cherub

You may have noticed that Erasmus Kzar is based on one of the Stormcast Eternals models. He's one of three Retributors I bought on a whim whilst buying bits years ago, and I've been looking to put them all to good use ever since. Recently, I got it in my head to turn the second Retributor into a Custodian, inspired by some of the conversions I've seen floating around the internet.

Without further ado, meet The Tenth Gate, Custodian-Errant, former Tribune of the Legio Custodes:

This guy is built from the Retributor captain, some Assault Terminator bits, the haft and blade of a Grey Knights' halberd and some other bits. I've also scraped off some of the Stormcast Eternals imagery, replacing it with more appropriate decorations. The Guardian Spear was a bit of a PITA to put together; I had to carefully pin all the elements in place so they wouldn't snap off unexpectedly.

Overall, I'm really happy with the conversion, even though it looks pretty much nothing like the Custodes in the artwork The only things I'm still not certain about are the aquila on his left shoulderpad and the scrolls coming from the Retributors' backpack. Should I fill in the letters on those scrolls with green stuff? And is the aquila of an appropriate size (please say yes, I cut that damn thing from a Space Marine's chest plate, which was difficult as sin)?

That's pretty much it for this update, hope you guys enjoy it!

Well I absolutely love the Chaos Feudal-Worlders. From the pitch-perfect fluff for Erasmus, down to his 'Alas poor Yorrick' pose really excellent work

I also like the idea of a World Eater that's not 2-dimensional murder everything

Your Custodes is kickass too props on cutting the aquila off the SM torso in one piece. That can't have been easy! Perhaps just a little liquid greenstuff to blend the edges into the pauldron would set it off nicely. TBH even a dab of plastic glue and then push the edges together with a cocktail stick when it's squidgy would work. That's what I do half the time

Kitbashing is a skill that can be learned, my friend! Just keep building things, experiment with new bits and with green stuff, write some fluff about the models you'd like to build, and you'll be making awesome kitbashes of your own in no-time

EmberlordofFire8 wrote:Awesome custudes, is that the Watch Master's spear?

The spear isn't the Watch Master's, I built it from an Assault Terminator's Thunder Hammer, the haft and blade of a GK glaive, and a regular ol' Bolter

---------------------------------------------------------------

So, as you all know, the Primaris Marines have been unleashed upon the galaxy by a revived Roboute Guilleman's command. Personally, I'm not too fond of them, the models seem a bit bland, and the fluff seems a bit questionable (but I admit, I haven't really read the actual lore for them yet). I'm willing to keep an open mind about them though, as they seem like perfect candidates for some exciting conversion work

I was originally just going to buy one Primaris marine (namely the one that comes with the new 'Getting started with Wh40k' book), until I noticed that I could get three of the big buggers for double the book's price. Seeing as I didn't really need the book anyway, I went with the Easy to Build: Primaris Intercessors kit.

But I'm not going to build them as Primaris, of course. These Space Marines will tread a different, darker path... one that was laid bare by Guilleman's most hated brother so long ago...

God damn that's cool I'm with you that I'm severely skeptical of the fluff for Primaris Marines (although with some significant tweaks I feel it's got legs). However, they are invaluable for True-scaling, which is what I'd be using them for.

Update time!

I've spent the last few days working on a bunch of different projects, trying to get a lot of stuff built and ready for painting in an attempt to get my hobby expenses a bit under control again (I made the mistake of creating one big Excel sheet to keep track of all of them, and am now perpetually reminded of my failures).

That said, I also got some interesting goodies in the mail, which means said list just got a bit longer again...

I'll never learn, will I?

Anyways, on the painting front, I managed to get the first Gal Vorbak finished a couple of days ago. I'm rather proud of him, and I'm very glad that I followed the Warhammer TV tutorials for the red.

Here's a few pics of the nasty bugger, and a link to his showcase thread:

More pics can be found here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/734804.page

I also started to modify the second Gal Vorbak, who will probably end up as the squad's Sergeant (or Dark Martyr, if I'm not mistaken):

I went a little bit crazy with the green stuff here I tried to mimic elements from Forgeworld's Gal Vorbak, whilst also adding a few ideas of my own. The spine/ribs construction on his chest wasn't entirely planned, but I think it turned out well enough in the end

Here's a black-and-white pic:

You may have noticed that he's still missing his right shoulder pad, and there's a good reason for that: I can't decide between two equally attractive options...

Option #1: a regular CSM shoulder pad:

Option #2: Vrosh Tattersoul's demonic face shoulder pad:

I'm currently leaning towards option 2, as the demonic face reminds me of the Word Bearers' icon somewhat, and because it looks totally cool Thoughts?

As I said before, I got a bunch of goodies recently, and amongst those were a box of Easy-to-Build Liberators, bases for my Tau Kill Team and the Gorechosen boardgame. I immediately put the bases to good use, which means 5 of my 7 Pathfinders are now ready to be painted (the others are waiting for the second shipment of bases heading my way; also, the pics were taken before the final assembly of most of the Pathfinders, so there's still a lot of blu-tac visible):

As for the Gorechosen, I couldn't resist giving my own twist to the game's premisse, and thus decided to convert two of the Champions in the box into champions of the other Dark Gods. The fluff behind it is that three champions (a Nurglite, a Tzeentchian and a Slaaneshi) were captured by the Khorne Bloodbound and are now forced to fight eachother (and whatever other champions enter the ring) to make it out of the arena alive... for the glory of their respective Gods, of course!

Here's a WiP pic of the Nurgle Champion, converted from the Aspiring Deathbringer:

Since this picture was taken, I've added a lot more dents in his armour, echoing the armour of the Putrid Blightkings

Finally, there was the box of Liberators. I didn't really know what to do with them at first, although I did know I wanted to give my Custodes Tribune a buddy. Eventually, that idea led to this little group:

I've still got a lot of work to do on them, but I'm quite happy with how they look already I'm not sure about the banner bearer's head though, something's a bit off about it, but I can't lay my finger on it...

That's it for now, hope you guys enjoy!

Great update Ezra. Personally I would go with shoulderpad 1, because 2 might make it look too "busy". There's already enough to look at with the ribcage (which looks fantastic by the way) and other bits, so adding a massive shoulderpad might be a bit too much.

The Intercessors were originally only available through the starter set and the three-man Easy-to-Build box, but their full plastic kit has recently become available to pre-order on the GW online store

The push-fit blue plastic is functionally the same as regular plastic though (or at least, I didn't notice much difference when I was hacking it apart ), so if you want to toy around with some Primaris marines before you buy the full kit, I'd certainly recommend the Easy-to-Build box

Ribcage! That was the word I was looking for!

As for the shoulder pad issue, I'm still debating which of the two would be better, but I'm holding off on making the decision until my order of blu stuff arrives in the mail. If I could make a copy of that second shoulder pad, I'd be a very happy man

Now, as for the actual update, I finished building my Tzeentchian champion for Gorechosen. Behold the Exalted Warcaster of Tzeentch (working title)

As you can see, I didn't change much of the original model; most of the conversion work was done on the staff, which was a bit of a PITA to build. Still, it turned out nicely in the end I also cut off his top-knot, and used the plume to create a 'ball of magical energy' in his outstretched claw, which I felt rather obligated to add (he is a Tzeentchian, after all)

Thank you Moltar! Glad to see my work is appreciated

I felt compelled to build one of the Custodes today, more specifically the standard bearer. I tweaked the pose some more, as the previous one didn't feel right to me

He's not fully finished yet; I've got to sculpt a new cable for his left arm, and I need to either extend the pole of his standard a bit or find a suitable rock to place it on. I think I'm going to add an Aquila on his shoulder pad too, but I'll have to wait until my blu-stuff arrives before I can do that (I'm mentally not ready to cut apart a SM torso for one again ).

Sadly, I've already glued his head on, so I can't try a Primaris one... can't believe I didn't think of that myself

Anyways, I built the third Custodian last night, have a look:

Didn't change too much about him; I had to scrap the little shield on his armour though, as it didn't fit anywhere behind the Heavy Bolter.

My Gal Vorbak experiments reminded me of the Horus Heresy army I'd started some time ago, namely Word Bearers with some Militia buddies. As per the Word Bearers Legion rules, I have to take two HQ's, and of course I want one of them to be a Chaplain (because evil priests are awesome). Conveniently, the Tartaros Terminator kit comes with a spare chest piece, which I then spliced together with a Chaos Terminator backside to create the following:

Do note, the SM Terminator legs are a placeholder, I intend to swap them for some Tartaros legs (maybe even a pair from the Scarab Occult Terminators?)

I'm still fiddling with the pose, too. The above pose I alright, but I felt that it wasn't Chaplain-y enough, so I tried the following setup:

What do you guys think?

Awesome updates, I can definitely see the gorechosen champion savagely hitting thinks with his scepter. And a tzeentchian theme will be very nice to see on that model.

Very fond of the chaplain too, I think the second mace is more worldbearerish, and with the rest of the model is really says "corruption in progress", fitting for 30k.

It's actually the head the kit comes with, I simply snipped off the top-knot and filed off any excess plastic until his head was nice and smooth again

Putting that WB Chaplain together inspired me to have a go at the Tartaros Terminators again. I was having a bit of trouble with the helmets, as they didn't fit as well as I'd hoped (I'm using the Raptors' helmets, for those who don't remember). In the end, I figured out I could just cut off a small piece from the necks to get them to fit better, and it ended up working like a charm! Despite that breakthrough, they aren't quite done yet; I'm still fiddling with some of the poses, and I'm wondering how many details I should add to sell the 'Word Bearer'-look...

Here's a pic of a finished Tartaros Terminator next to my converted Gal Vorbak:

I also worked on my "True-scale" Chaos Space Marine Kill Team for SW:A some more; I'm trying to get the entire team finished so I can have a little showdown between them and the Tau team

Here's a pic of the two new additions:

It's a bit odd to work on these guys now that I've worked with the Primaris Marines. The proportions on my 'true-scale' attempts aren't as good as I thought they were, but in the end, I'm still quite happy with them. I just hope the slightly off proportions won't be as noticeable once they're painted

It's been a while since I last updated this thread (nearly four months to be precise), but I haven't been idle in that time. In fact, you could say I've been falling into old habits again, as in, I've been buying more stuff than I can get finished within some reasonable time-frame.

Welp.

As a result, I've got some new projects going on, including a Norsca-inspired Slaves to Darkness warband for AOS Skirmish, a group of miniatures for my D&D party members (converted from LOTR figures), and a couple of figures inspired by the AOS28 community.

Here's a pic of the Norsca-inspired Slaves to Darkness (which some of you may have seen in the 'Report on your AoS projects' thread):

The AOS28 figures just sort of... 'happened', to be perfectly honest. One moment, I was holding a Nurgle Lord of Plagues...

...and then I suddenly had an Undead Ogre in my hands. He looks rather nice, though, doesn't he?

This guy's creation led to several others ideas panning out in my head, but I've currently shelved those ideas for a while to keep my backlog a bit more manageable I did manage to create an antagonist for my undead warband from a Lord-Relictor, though:

He'll be hunting down the Zombie Ogre and his master (a Necromancer) vampire-hunter style. Not entirely sure how I'm going to paint him, though...

I've also gone back in my massive pile of grey plastic to revisit up some older projects, like my Secreta Secretorum warband. I managed to finish painting Huan Lo Pan and his base (but forgot to take pictures of him ) and built the group's last member, Orionos, who you can see here:

I deviated a bit from my original design; I swapped out his right-hand weapon and altered his pose a bit. I also managed to give him a nice little hat, built from aSkeleton Warrior's shield.

Another project I revisited was the one I ended my last post with, namely the 'true-scale' CSM. As you might remember, I also made a 'true-scale' Terminator for that little group. I decided I didn't like his current base, and set out to replace it with one that fitted with the rest of the party...

The above is the result of several hours of cutting tiny parts from one of those two large Sector Mechanicus bases. You can imagine how amused my hands and fingers were with that little job.

Lastly, working on the Chaos Space Marines reminded me of the fact that I still had a Maulerfiend/Forgefiend kit lying around. As I dug up the kit, I got inspired to turn the dino-bot into something more... twisted and evil. Something that really screamed 'DAEMON ENGINE', because Daemon Engines are awesome.

This led to the creation of the unholy Thrasher-fiend, created by Iron Warriors Warpsmiths to cleanse Brigannion Four's underworld from its enemies...

I decided to scrap the little construction on his 'head' in favour of a gruesome maw sculpted from green stuff:

It was my first time sculpting something this big, so I was a bit scared of messing it up; but everything went according to plan in the end Maybe my efforts were guided by the Dark Gods themselves...

And here he is in his current state. Once I've finished up the magma-cutters, I'll be able to glue it all together. And then I have to figure out how I'll attach it to its base...

So, that's that! Hope this update was enjoyable to read, and I'll see you all next time

Yeah wonderful AoS stuff Norscans are brilliant

Now though, lets talk about that Thrasher Fiend.Absolutely love it especially with the open maw at the top. I'm picturing it as some sort of daemon furnace with legs, snatching men with its thrashing tentacles and depositing them in its open maw to fuel itself along.

Wonderful stuff

Thanks for the comments, friends!

So I haven't been able to update this thread a lot lately, as I was rather tied up in RL matters, but now I come to you once more, bearing more madness with me!

On the painting front, I've managed to get a couple of Adventurers finished for my Dungeons and Dragons group. These were all built from plastic LOTR Orcs with some accesories Green Stuff'd on (like the little bags on their belts, the handaxes, etc.). I tried to make them as WYSIWYG as possible, which was a bit of a challenge in and of itself

From left to right: Galindan, High Elf Cleric; Akkerdjiee, Half-Orc Barbarian; Nymeria, Tiefling Warlock; Ragnar, Dragonborn Fighter; Thorin, Mountain Dwarf Druid; and finally, my own PC, Zarafael, Human Wizard.

Here's some detail shots of them:

And a little cinematic shot:

I still have two of these guys to finish up, but I'm waiting for the weather to improve so I can actually prime things again - bloody Belgian winters....

I also made some progress on one of my Gorechosen, namely the infamous Vexnar the Reaper:

(this pic is a bit blurry, sadly)

As you can tell, I converted the proud Aspiring Deathbringer into a pawn of the Plague God. Despite no longer feeling the touch of Khorne in his veins, he's still as murder-happy as ever. To Nurgle him up a bit, I gave him the traditional Nurglite colour scheme (which I also used for my Death Guard dreadnought way back) and the Nurglite head from the Chaos chariot kit. I also drilled some holes into his armour and weapons to make them look a bit more worn and beat-up.

And a close-up of the creepy bugger's face:

On the modelling side of things, I worked on the Thrasher-fiend a bit more (forgot to take pictures of it, though ). I glued on his two magma-cutters, so he's pretty much 95% ready to get primed and painted. I'm not sure how I'm going to base him, though, so I'm going to hold off on priming him until I've got that sorted out.

I also got a box of Genestealer cultists for Christmas, which I intend to turn into Black Legion Chaos cultists for my SW:A team. Again, I've forgotten to take pics of them, but I'll get those up sometime soon (once I've built a few more of them)

That's it for now, hope you guys enjoy!

Good start on the gorechosen, the transition from Khorne to Nurgle works nicely !

Keep it up !
