Exactly!
Oh man, now I'm curious if Ork jets are gonna have better melee rules than other flyers. It'd make sense!
and with this inspiration I am going to go home and model 3 little deffrollas for my dakkajets because it seems hilarious (obviously not going to be rules useable but I will be laughing about it for months

I can't help but feel you missed an excellent Barrel Roll joke here.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

I have ordered 3 little lego barrels. will be puttying over the lego bits and adding barrel marks there then adding some tiny spikes, and running a rod though so it spins (barrel rolling)... this is going to be fun

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Ya'll might not be serious, but this is real - imagine it repurposed for war and dangled from say, a Stormtalon....
I mean, surely folks remember this scene...

Flyers in 8th edition: they must move forward and cannot change their facing....but can shoot behind their starting point.......this is so ridiculous. They should have simplified it to just finish their movement at least X inches away from where they started (x= minimum move) and let the player choose whatever facing they wanted (like old FW movement rule for flyers back in the they)
After a couple of games with my Blackstars the other day I can say they don't feel that different than they did in 7th. Except that they feel a hell of a lot tougher; they may be easier to shoot with ground-based weapons but T7/3+ and 14W let them eat a lot of firepower without flinching. Hover Mode is no longer "I don't need this Flyer anymore and am entirely okay with it exploding."
Then again my Blackstars have really short-ranged weapons so if I'm in fly mode I almost can't shoot behind my starting point anyway; I might have a different opinion if I'd been flying something longer-ranged and the no-fire-arcs thing was more troubling.

They don't have 2 movement values nor the airborne and hard to hit rules which means they can be shot at without penalties and they can be charged by anyone regardless of the fly keyword.
Seems a bit weird, no? Tactical squads charging a Heldrake just feels off.
You don't have to be happy when you lose, just don't make winning the condition of your happiness.

Aye, Heldrakes have been grounded.
They are less a flying dragon majestically breathing fire...
and more like a Flightless bird... What's a good Flightless bird to compare them to...
Its lack of full-fledged flyer rules is just an artifact of how 40k handles flying, the full flying rules with turning restrictions and everything only kick in at supersonic. 40k's rules see no difference between a dragon, a helicopter, a biplane, and a hovertank. They're all "subsonic flyers".
That's why the Valkyrie/Vendetta get the same treatment when they drop into hover-mode.
Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Played 6 games now with two stormtalons. Min movement has not been a problem. Getting shot down is more of a problem. The dakka output of your standard stormtalon is fantastic.
Now ordered a 3rd for my list.

40k was stupid from the beginning . What game or universe have you been playing all this years?
i don't know, orks strapping on rokkits and meleeing planes is about the most orky thing i can think of
I agree. I love the sillynes of 40k. But some people want the universe to fill their tastes, instead of looking for a better universe for what they like.

Did you not find the -1 to hit ground targets blunted your damage somewhat? The interceptor rule does look really nice though, counteracts the -1 for moving. The stormraven looks really good though, as PotMS gives it such a boost. Finding the interceptor rule gives me hope for the Vulture getting a +1 vs ground targets; 5+ would hurt so much.
Stormtalon doesn't have -1 to ground units, that's the stormhawk.
[EDIT] In fact, the stormhawk does not either, except for its icarus stormcannon or skyhammer.

Personally, I would rather watch the Marvel Cinematic Universe over Game of Thrones because I like to see good guys win and be heroes and not die like chumps, even though GoT has superlative acting talent behind it. I have a slight preference for Star Wars over Star Trek, but I have a great appreciation and enjoyment of each series and their respective settings.
It's like the differences in Westerns back before the 1970s and the ones afterwards. In the olden days, you had charismatic actors and simple stories, but they ultimately tried to tell a simple, relatable story that appealed to general audiences at the time. But in the 1970s on, Westerns became much more violent and realistic and less "for kids". I mean, there is a difference between a proper Western movie and a Historical Fiction movie.
I mean, if I have a choice between watching Flash Gordon or Saving Private Ryan? I will take the ridiculous, over-the-top, Queen-scored movie over the realistic, historical movie.
I like what I like, and I won't criticize others for liking something else.

They both still suffer from the -1 to hit with heavy weapons when moving, like all units. The exceptions to that rule are rare, which is what makes potms so good.

Yes, but you said 'against ground targets' so that probably confused people. Anyhow, Stormtalon has +1 against non-flyers so that counters the heavy weapon penalty, and as it can hover, it really doesn't even have to move if you don't want to.

What he said, they've been great for me thus far (except against thunderwolves with their damned 3++).
