Best part is my wife is ALSO enjoying the show, and she could not finish the book since it put her to sleep "Too British"
However, since she is a Tiffany Aching and Nanny Ogg fan, she agrees that you can tell the Terry Pratchett influence in the dialog.
There have been a few "laugh out loud" moments and several "oof, that is too close to reality" moments (like the introduction to Famine)
Absolutely love Nanny Ogg.
She reminds me of my dear old Mumsie. Kind hearted, terrifically human, but not someone you want to cross.
Heck, the original three remind me of Gran (Granny Weatherwax), Mum (Nanny Ogg) and Auntie Lesley ((Magrat).

I'm of two minds if I'd like to see the Witches in a real life film. It would take some really top grade actresses to carry each of them off, you couldn't just shoehorn anyone into those rolls.
Plus there's the authenticity to the original material to consider. There are some animations of at least two or three of the discoworld books and the witches and whilst the voice acting in them is terribly flat and dire, they do stick to the source material.
That and honestly I'd rather see it done with a bigger budget than the BBC can throw at them, the live action ones they've done so far are good, but they dont' quite capture the scale of Discworld. When I think of and see AnkeMorpoke (sp) I want to see bustling streets with trolls and people and dwarves all in a chaotic madness of mingling (blame the original cover artwork for colouring my view on who discworld should look )

I feel the forthcoming The Watch is the best way to adapt it.
No ruining or screwing up novels. Just a familiar setting, with interesting tales set there in.
It won’t stand on whether or not Sam Vimes convinces the readers. Have him cameo (ala the Megacity 1 show, also forthcoming) by all means, but not central.
Just, don’t try to capture Terry’s Tales specifically. Play in the world he’s created instead.

I think the problem with any live Disc project is it can never quite live up to what Sir Terry put in our heads for the last 30 years, as 'my' Granny, Vimes or whoever is going to differ from someone else's take, and neither version will match whatever the scripters fashion (unless by the million to one chance they end up matching nine out of ten folks expectations)

To be fair, the previous Discworld adaptations and now Good Omens prove that it's material that will get the talent in, the amount of fairly big names that have little more than cameo parts in GO is really quite something. Colour of Magic had David Jason, Sean Astin, Tim Curry, Christopher Lee. Making Money had Charles Dance and I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting a couple of other famous names in there (If I remember right, Clare Foy was Adora Bell, but that was before she was that well known, I think)
So while they'd need careful casting, I think they'd be able to get basically whoever they wanted. There's clearly something about Prattchett's work that appeals to a lot of actors. Which I can understand, I imagine they're probably some of the most fun things you could ever be in.
And ultimately, I'd lust love to see more of Discworld on screen, even if it's low budget and somewhat truncated by time/money, that can't hurt the sheer genius of the stories and characters themselves. And I don't think anyone would be willing to let a genuinely crap adaptation of something so beloved be made, so it'd almost certainly be decent at worst.

I saw the play of 'The Witches' - it, to be honest, was one of the most painful things I've ever seen.
I still don't think my dad has forgiven me for going to see it with him, and it was his idea!

The bright side is that Terry’s Daughter, Rhianna is the gatekeeper of Discworld.
She herself is a screenwriter, so not someone to be taken lightly.
And I suspect anyone wanting to commit book to film would be of a serious enough mind to respect the books, Terry, and the fan community. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sorry, Rhianna is a video game writer. She wrote the Tomb Raider reboots amongst others.

that wasn't her finest hour mind, I liked crazy posh monkey murdering Lara of the PS era rather than 'relatable' Lara of the newer games (who admittedly reverts to comedy murderess under player agency)

Haven’t played any of them to be fair. Was a solid Nintendoid!
But I’ve only heard good things about the reboot.
Film was, eh, well it was. Solidly neutral. Nothing bad, but nothing particularly Good (not the capital G)

Nothing bad, but nothing particularly Good (not the capital G) The film was very loosely based on the first of the reboot games, but stripping out the cult leader villain and replacing him with a generic mercenary (even when casting an actor who would have been perfect as the cult leader, judging by his performance in Justified), removing the supernatural elements and all the big set pieces. Me and the other half went to see it, having loved the game. Needless to say we were thoroughly disappointed. Why they decided to take out the big set pieces on Yamatai and replace them with a bicycle chase through London and a foot chase in Hong Kong remains a mystery.

I thoroughly enjoyed the series, and my dad, who has never been a Pratchett fan loved it too. He borrowed my copy of the book, and is really enjoying it too. I'm particularly impressed because we had been to see an AmDram version of the Witches last year, and it was painful and I had thought it had soured my dad on Pterry, but fortunately that's not been the case.
It's definitely worth a look if you've been in 2 minds about it.

More than 20,000 Christians have signed a petition calling for the cancellation of Good Omens, the television series adapted from Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s 1990 fantasy novel – unfortunately addressing their petition to Netflix when the series is made by Amazon Prime.
….
More than 20,000 supporters have signed a petition in which they say that Good Omens is “another step to make satanism appear normal, light and acceptable”, and “mocks God’s wisdom”. God, they complain, is “voiced by a woman” – Frances McDormand – the antichrist is a “normal kid” and, most importantly, “this type of video makes light of Truth, Error, Good and Evil, and destroys the barriers of horror that society still has for the devil”.

Wow, this is just hilariously sad. The response from Gaiman was great: “I love that they are going to write to Netflix to try and get #GoodOmens cancelled. Says it all really. This is so beautiful ... Promise me you won’t tell them?”

And this is somehow the most unsurprising thing I've read all day.
Also, Gaiman's response to the petition launched before the premier of Lucifer, which is almost as golden.
"Ah. It seems like only yesterday (but it was 1991) that the "Concerned Mothers of America" announced that they were boycotting The Sandman because it contained lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and trans characters. It was Wanda that upset them most: the idea of a trans-woman in a comic book... They told us they were organizing a boycott of The Sandman, which they would only stop if we wrote to the American Family Association and promised to reform. I wonder if they noticed it didn't work last time, either..."
