Damn, I was just getting over my reservations enough to think "yeah, ok, maybe I'll watch it", but Whitehall as one of the key character? Nope, can't stand him.

Watched the first couple of episodes tonight, really enjoyed them. I get the feeling Tennant and Sheen could carry even the most awful of scripts on sheer charisma, but give them one this good, with an equally strong supporting cast turning up as well, and you've got something special.
The inclusion of the narration is a great choice, as it provides a great outlet for the wordplay and sardonic asides that make Gaiman and (especially) Pratchett's work so entertaining in written form, without forcing all of it into dialogue (which, admittedly, is equally full of great lines)
Top stuff.

I was excited. Now I've watched two episodes of what feels, sounds, and looks like a Desperate Housewives sequel.
I'm going to go back to the start after a few days break and hope it caught me on a bad day. So far I genuinely loathe it.

Watched the first 2 episodes last night, without ever having read the source materials.
Its fairly easy to follow along with the plot, its got great humor, and I'm loving the hints/lines about which famous people are/were on which side of things.

Liked the whole series a lot, but felt too short. Guess I'm used to more shows being like 10 episodes. But at the same time, it was short and to the point without 4 extra filler episodes.

As usual with adaptations of books, bits got dropped, and other bits got added.
All of the most memorable bits of the book were in there.
The narration was blatantly for the US audience (explaining the M25, etc), but it was fine. Being a narration though, it is easy to adapt to other markets.
All of the song were Queen, in whatever form, but there was no explanation for it. 'Something for the fans', or something.
I think I am on my 4th copy of the book, having 'lent' it out a couple of times and had to replace it.
I'm happy enough with the series. It could have been far, far worse.

You actually got more than in the book.
There was a hint to the Queen gag, in that every time Crowley's bentley tuened up it was to the strains of Queen. You also see him putting a Mozart CD in the CD player when he's with Hastur, and instead we hear Queen (was it "I Love My Car"?).
I missed the scene of the Air Base gate guard getting sent back to the family farm, and of course the other four bikers, but they were cut for timing, fair enough. The narration was OK, but there was perhaps a little too much of it. Still, overall I liked it, no-one was especially annoying (even Jack Whitehall was tolerable), so thumbs up, I'd say.

In terms of exclusions, I did miss the whole nobody claiming Milton Keynes, but both sides declaring it a great success.
Mind you, that's a very British reference, so understand why it didn't make the cut. Automatically Appended Next Post: And if this is your first taste of Pratchett? I can recommend the following Discworld Books.
1. Guards Guards!
2. Lords and Ladies
3. Going Postal
All standouts in their own sub-section of the Discworld series. The first is when the setting really found it's feet, and set the pace. Lords and Ladies is more high fantasy. Going Postal is more down-to-earth farce.
All three excellent examples of Sir Terry's wit and warmth.

I wish they'd cut the swearing to bring the age rating down into a healthy pg standard as I felt the overall tone and story was very pg in focus. Not quite a Universal, but certainly pitching for a more family (if adult side) show.
Otherwise I found it good fun, though wish they'd had 1 more episode to just squeeze in a few more of the "narrator" tidbits to fill in like the ducks at the park. Little things like that which just ooze the world building methods that Terry used for little injokes and bits of info.
Though I stress I didn't read the book

I did cringe a bit at the 6th-century warriors in 16th-century full plate armour, but that's just me being too pedantic for my own good. That and the few other new bits worked pretty well, and were a nice alternative to the odd gags dropped from the book.
I think having the angels and demons closer in appearance to the angels might have driven one of the themes a bit better, but the demons were nicely 'orrible, so that's OK.

Ita a fun little show. I do like how despite being apocalyptic and all, it's light. Fun and rather easy going.
The narrator just works, especially the sarcasm or such.
The main charceters balence well, it just works pretty well so far. 2-3 episodes in I'm impressed.
In general. I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of the serris.

You know, it was relatively subtle, but I liked how the more worldly, for want of a better term, an angel or demon became the less extreme its appearance. Crowley and Aziraphael both could have passed as human, or angel, or demon. And to me, it drove home the theme about the corrupting influence of humanity towards moderation and tolerance, and the erosion of inflexible ideals.
Keeping pure demons and pure angels instantly recognizable was a very nice way to highlight that extremism.
My favorite was the demon, I think it was Beelzebub doubling down on the fly theme.

Also, we keep getting told there's a Watch show in development, but Rhianna Pratchett's supposed to be overseeing/co-writing that and she seems to be working on other stuff of late so who knows how far along that actually is.

The main thing I'm confused about was it seemed like there was supposed to be more set up about the sword, but it ended up being kind of, well, incidental overall.

Finished episode 3 last night.. very much enjoying the show
Best part is my wife is ALSO enjoying the show, and she could not finish the book since it put her to sleep "Too British"
However, since she is a Tiffany Aching and Nanny Ogg fan, she agrees that you can tell the Terry Pratchett influence in the dialog.
There have been a few "laugh out loud" moments and several "oof, that is too close to reality" moments (like the introduction to Famine)
