Anvil or Victoria equivalents?
Potentially, but I was thinking more inwardly towards what else GW has made that this haven't aged well in comparison to.

And I would ask that you please remove that quote of mine from your signature.

No one, certainly not me, would ever accuse Victoria Lamb of ripping off GW's 2nd edition Imperial Guard.

However I believe that she may have drawn a certain amount of inspiration from the same sources.

It's super, super tempting to buy two platoons and magnetize the autocannons to swap out with plastic heavy bolters and/or lascannons. Significantly cheaper than ebay recasts, too.

It's all based on soviet WW2 ... so no. Victoria didnt rip GW off. GW "ripped off" real life. Like they do in 90% of all cases.

Although I can’t find pics of them anywhere I know exactly the ones you mean. Surprisingly good models after all this time.

Also, in a way much of the old IG range hasn’t aged very well. They look like historical real world rip offs, and a lot of them just don’t fit in with the modern, more gothic imperium. When you look at what the stormtroopers, sisters, mechanicus, even genestealer cults look like these days.

IMHO the best Citadel Guard models are Steel Legion and Vostroyans, by far, then Tallarns, Then a distant, distant fourth are the current plastic Cadians, followed by metal Cadians, then Mordians, Praetorians, Valhallans, then metal Catachans and then in a distant last place, plastic Catachans.

Heh, brilliant. I couldn't agree more on your IG rankings... Which can only mean the latest Warhammer community rumour engine (aloe vera plant thingy, deathworld ahoy!) probably means plastic Catachans are on the way!

Am I the only one who lkes the plastic Catachans? Granted, their ginormous muscles look ridiculous...but then, so did the 80ies action heroes they are so clearly based on.

Quite possibly, yes.

It's not the huge muscles, just that they're so crudely sculpted. The metals that preceded them and the plastic command squad and heavy weapons squads that cans after them got it right, but the plastic troopers were bad even for their time.

Swap the plastic and metal Cadians around and our lists are identical.

Vostroyians are the most ‘guard’ guard regiment there is imo. The baroque designs, chainmail and antique looking weaponary is imperial down to a tee. Honest to god, if there’s one regiment of IG that deserve plastics, it’s those guys. Tallarns, Armageddon and the death Korps are seconds. The rest have become too ‘real world’ for me. But it’s all a matter of personal taste of course.

We laughed at them when they first came out for how crude and stupid they looked, and it’s only gotten worse since then.

And the riders models for the Rough Riders, where do you rate the design on them Judge Doug?

Plastic Catachans are not without their good points, for example I love that the left arm, right arm and gun are separate units unlike the Cadians.

I think there is some potential in them if they got a more modern scuplt and included options like hats, helmets and #$%^ing sleeves. Who the @#$% goes into the jungle (esp a space jungle where every plant is poisonous) without sleeves?
