When Do You Get Rid of a Project?
When the meta changes
When a new army comes out
When it seems like GW isn't treating that army right
When a new edition begins
When a new game/hobby takes my attention away
When I've finished painting it
When I just lose interest in that army
I never get rid of anything

The new dystopian models look rather different and are in different (larger) scale, and they're not the same classes. You have conversion guide in the army lists what old model stands in for what, but that's it.

It's the same scale, however the nature of some sculpts has shifted. So whilst the details are the same, some of the older classes of ship were just physically smaller than they are now. Eg my new Russian battleship is nearer to old Kingdom of Britannia Dreadnought size. However I've also seen photos that the older russian battleship was also somewhat on the large side.

It's more that there's more decking and detailing and the ship being more of a ship - whilst some of the older models were more a cluster of guns atop a hull type designs.

Same scale, just variation in the design approach to the ships.

I tend to go for "If I haven't bothered to buy the last codex for the army before its new codex came out".Life, space and cash are too short to hang onto things which you don't really care about. It's why I'm (trying to) sell off my Necrons, Chaos Dwarves and Tyranids. And Daemons.

I was selling my dystopian wars but apparently that's getting a new lease of life so I am going to hang onto them and see what the new rules are like!

That's probably a good rule to live by. I'm not sure everyone could follow through.

Something that bothers me: I see an army for sale, it comes with a Codex. The Codex is 2 editions behind. Right away, I know the person who owned it wasn't playing that army for a long time.

How often have you actually sold an army you no longer play? I get that you want to, I question the reasons we hang onto it in the first place.

I've never parted with anything that I've painted. I'm not so bothered about whether they're viable in game, or even if the game still exists (WHFB collection...) but once I've put all that time and effort into building and painting them, they're mine.

The most I've ever done is trade new-on-sprue stuff.

When do I chuck a collection?

When someone who thinks they're stronger, faster or smarter wants it badly enough to pry it from my cold, dead hands.

No one said it had to be your collection that gets chucked.

I do my best to keep everything I've painted, although I've sold bits and pieces for armies that I never intend on playing. Still trying to get rid of my Orks as they never saw a game and I never want to paint Orks again.

Yeah, I've got a lot of little bits of a force here or a force there that are painted. I try to keep the painted models that I'm proud of. I have sold painted models in the past and I do regret some of it, but I wasn't going to play with them, so it's hard to care too much about them.
