I don't understand how people are apportioning risk to this? Palladium aren't involved at all, are they? While the subject is the same, none of the same companies are actually involved, are they?

Harmony Gold is. And they did nothing publicly for five years to support their backers as Palladium whittled down the clock with nothing to show for wave two other than an amateurish stat block or two and some minor tweaks. And, as stated earlier and quoted above, there are some yellow warning signs for this company as well. Sure it's not the 10,000 watt red flashing one that Palladium has but, given the track record and kickstarter officially washing their hands off of any involvement other than taking their cut (not the case in the TOS when Tactics was funded.. not that it helped though), there is definitive risk. And that's before you consider things completely out of their control like the zero Covid policy that affects this HK based company with tens of millions under forced lockdown as well as the often publicized general supply chain issues neither of which existed previously.

Palladium is not involved, but HG is, and Kid's Logic is already doing some shady stuff on the KS department, so it seems they haven't fallen too far from the tree.

Licensed games are also always riskier than ones where the creator owns the property.

It's an extra fee. It's another layer of approvals. If the project has a long lifespan you run the risk of the license being pulled or given up.

And that's without looking at HG's poor record, possible complications with Japanese companies producing Macross models, or the issues people have uncovered with Kidslogic.

There are bright signs too, they actually have made models that are in shops, and they seem to genuinely want to make quality models for Macross/Robotech.

But that only makes me more eager to wait for retail since we already know they can do it.

I can't see myself backing another Robotech KS. I wish them luck. If/when it comes to retail, then I'll buy it. Too much risk in this for me.

the Dog Fight core game is already available - the KS is ostensibly for the Deluxe Edition plus new sculpts made at a faster pace than the ~30 or so released over the last three years via normal releases.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I'm personally backing because 100% of the orders I've made for Minitech items have been delivered so I have (tons) of product from them already, so I have a personal trust relationship established wherein I believe my items will be received.

I didn't back or have anything in to the Dragon Ball Z thing that Kidslogic ran, but I did notice this in the Robotech Dog Fight comments. Feel free to use this information as you wish

"Hi Ged,

First of all. Thanks for your supports of the campaign and we hear your concerns.

This is CM Wong and my business partner WY Cheng. We’re the creators of the project. My background is a factory engineer over 30 years. I have limited skill of speaking and writing in English, so this reply is actually translated by our coworker now.

We have made miniature products since 2016. Most of them are original robots selling to local hobby shops and Kickstarter too.

The company you mentioned is our distributor, more on the business side. They handle promotion and sales, especially the overseas market. We handled development and more importantly production at factory. It’s a joint forces of works. But we are separate parties.

Here is some related post back in 2020. The company also mentioned me as their business partner/ product engineer:

Here is another successful project I involved in 2020:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/boarstudio/core-clash

I have involved in more than two other Kickstarter projects before, but I cannot disclose them without permission.

About the delayed project you mentioned, that one is PVC plastic products, which is not my area of expertise. I’m on the polystone statue and resin miniature area. We are not involved in that project. Please send the inquiry to that project owner.

If you concern about the production risk, then I can say that I’m the one in charge of production. You have seen our products since 2019. I always fight for the best quality and delivery deadline. We always focus at production process rather than doing good PR. We are sorry if our weak communication skills caused any inconvenience to you.

Thanks a lot for your support and inputs, appreciate that.

I can also be reached at email: minitech.boardgames@gmail.com

My coworker will translate your words to me.

Is there significant savings to be had via the KS on the minis (I am not so interested in the game or decorative large SDF mini etc)?

Yep, licensed games have a lot of points of failure. IIRC Prodos AVP game got held up for years due to delays and misunderstandings with Fox in terms of various license issues, another Kickstarter that I got screwed on (and another company I won't readily support financially - and that includes their spinoff "Archon Studios").

There are some savings from the retail prices. You can see the retail prices on their ecommerce site: https://www.kidslogic.toys/collections/minitech-1

It's not like Harmony Gold has really covered themselves in glory either.

Since they edited 3 Japanese shows into Robotech they've tried and failed to produce Sentinels, Robotech 3000 and Shadow War.

The 80s novels were good, the Robotech RPG was well, good for its time, but other than that what has HG achieved other than squatting on the rights to something someone else made.

Perhaps this would be a good time to argue about the relative merits of subs versus dubs?

Just saying the Venn diagram of quality products and Harmony Gold products looks a lot like 2 circles!

Not gonna mention the failed video games, multiple lawsuits, and Hasbro winning the right to bring back Jetfire?

It looks like they posted an update to their dbz game on April 12, 2022 (first update since January 2021 as someone else mentioned) but I can’t see it since I’m not a backer. Is there a backer in the house?

One of them filthy casuals...

Not a backer (obviously given my posts) but I do recall the general comments section of the Robotech KS posting a synopsis of it the day of and/or the day after in case no one quotes it here.
