Barnes and Noble now has Lair of the Beast available for online order. Doesn't seem to be in any stores locally.

I wouldn't hold my breath, seem these smaller GW games are USA and Germany exclusive.
A really shame as it comes across as a 'scre you' to the rest of the world, the UK especially... as that is where GW are from and based.
|
The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused. |

I'm sure they've like, approached Waterstones or other UK retailers - I think at one point GAME stocked some of them right? But it does seem to be something they only want to do with partners.

USA and Germany are "the" boardgame markets currently
so yes GW wants to get its name known in that market, therefore making cheap games with nice models focused on that
GW does not need to do that in the UK so that everyone knows who they are and what they do

As a UK resident, I would have bought most of the boardgames in recent years. My partner will happily play a board game but has no interest in a wargame.
It's literally causing them to get less money from me for a product they already make but don't sell. If they sold them directly they'd get a higher profit margin than via a 3rd party anyway, so why not?

this is not about sales (otherwise those would be the usual GW price and not boardgame competitive pricing), this is marketing and advertising
same as the magazines were not available in all countries
GW does not see the need to advertise themselves in the UK among boardgamers, hence you don't get it, simple as that
that they could sell more if they had them in every country, sure but marketing boxes marketing boxes and no one cares that they could sell more as long as they fulfill their goal of advertising GW for the target groups

It's also about trying to draw mindshare from other hobbies which is why you often get, for example, a shelf or two of Warhammer stuff in GAME stores in the UK.

Agree, but some of the games are such good deals that they won‘t really make it to non-wargamers. I took the first opportunity to preorder Lair of the Beast at Thalia (30 Euros). It never made it past „release date unknown“ there, even at the time they sent out my copy. It’s pretty much sold out ever since. But 30 Euros for an Ambull and ~10 of the Blackstone heroes? Yes please.
I might also get Balin‘s Tomb when it gets rereleased to play with some LOTR enthusiasts among my friends. Ultimately this will depend on the price. However, that is almost guaranteed to be below what GW is asking for the included fellowship miniatures alone.

Also, is currently the only way to get the plastic cave troll mini, which for some reason they insist on not selling.
