I always saw it as something to use if the second power had already been cast by another guy that turn.

Question for anyone with the codex; have any of the non-devourer weapon “upgrades” for termagants improved to the point of being viable?

They have in fact been removed. Except the pistols. The pistols are not good,

I noticed that the harpy and hive crone are both now classed as flyers, not fast attack. That’s quite a big nerf to them. They won’t be able to score once chapter approved is out, and people won’t have to kill them to table you.

It does also give tyrannids one of the cheapest flyer wings available. I’m not sure they’re worth it though. They seem good for tying things up in melee early on, and they do have respectable firepower for their cost.

Termagants lost spike rifles and stranglewebs. They don't come in the kit so their dead.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Guess I forgot about those since they are so terrible.

Meh. Spike rifles and stranglewebs were rubbish.
Some people had a thing for spike rifles I guess, but honestly I don't think anyone will be particularly torn up over those options re-vanishing.
(I think they were in second edition, disappeared for 3rd and 4th, then re-appeared in 5th and 6th)

They were dead upon the arrival of the index. GW gave them such terrible rules there was no reason to ever use them.

Yeah, this. Even at zero points they were a waste of points.

The other issue was a total lack of any model for them unless you hounded ebay for the old metal gaunts from the very early days of Tyranids.

It seems a bit strange that Nids are the first codex release without dice. Maybe when GSC get their book there will be dice that could be used by Nids or GSC?

Guard didn't get dice but Eldar(who came after them) got a bunch of sets of dice.

It's not a guarantee you'll get dice with a codex.

Perhaps they knew for both releases you would need ALOT of dice to make rolls so they didn't bother.

I think it's more that they're tweaking what would be good themed dice. Look at the Death Guard dice compared to the Eldar Aspect dice.

For those with more experience of 8th Ed, in a 2,000 point army, would 80 Termagents be enough?

Reckon I’ll use them in the traditional way of chaff and objective grabbers, backed up with a variety of other bug sizes.

Going with the shooty Hive Fleet.

I'd probably aim for 90 so you have 3 max squads of 30.

Was thinking four broods of 20?

Really haven’t got a handle on 8th Ed at all!

The 'Nids ate theirs, the Guard's Commisars summarily executed theirs for rolling all 1's.

Just look at your 6th ed codex, it's exactly the same cover.

Not what I meant. Two questions for people who have the codex. Can a Haruspex take AG now? Do Neurothropes have any options?

It doesn't come out until Saturday. You can go watch the Canhammer or Striking Scorpion read-along if you want to view the inside contents early, though.

80 what? Bare boned? If 20 to 40 of them have devourer you are good. If they are 80 bare boned, you are doomed.

Nonsense. 80 fleshborer termagants in units of 30 and one 20 man get to reroll 1s to wounds, add onto that the Blaze Beetle strat or whatistcalled, and your wounding marines on 3s rerolling 1s. Thats respectable.

Sure Devourers are well worth doubling the cost of a gant, and are 3 shots. But if your opponets has ever been on the receiving end of 30 Devikgants, you can be sure theyll be a priority. One with a Tshirt save and a mass thats hard to hide reliably from sight.

Doomed is an exaggeration.

Sure, for 1 cmp you get +1 to wound on 30 shots. For 2 cmp your devil gaunts can shoot another 90 shots though. Also see fleshborer hive for the first stratagem.

With devil gaunts you can mix 50/50 or 66/33.

80 gants are maybe a bit overkill. I get by fine with about 36-ish. I usually start with about two units of 20 then shave off a few to make points elsewhere and end up with units of 18/17.

I mean they're not supposed to kill anything, they're supposed to be an annoyance. I get the feeling that I'm in a minority of nid players when I think that gaunts/gants are supposed to be mowing down space marines left and right. They're supposed to be swarming/distracting/tarpitting/objectiving.

It doesn't come out until Saturday.

At 1:00 mins, isn't that the exact same cover as the previous codex? Why?
