so I've got a few things I'd like to run by the internet community (before I do it anyway). I'll be playing space marines and, whilst I want to play a khorne themed CSM army, I want to be competitive too (oxymoron at its finest).

Khorne bezerkers, widely regarded as a bit naff now, but I think with a bit of clever play using LOS blocking terrain, they could work well. the plan is to move & flat-out their rhinos (2 units) and aim for the weaker objectives. turn 2 get out 12" closer but hidden, turn 3 try to charge.

For kharne, I wanted a somewhat more durable unit. That was the point I realised that 35 plague zombies would be a wonderful way to escort him to combat. they aren't marked, so he can join them, have feel-no-pain, many, many wounds and if kharne kills one, it's no big loss. it also prevents the too-many-eggs syndrome you get from putting kharne with bezerkers and then VINDICATOR! too bad, there were so many points there...

So that means Typhus, and that's fine. I'll buy him some nurgle termies and he'll deepstrike in to crack some skulls. not too many though, wanting multiple units that make the opponents think.

Typhus also means plague marines with objective secured, get in there.

And then we have the problem. Sky Talons. aside from a heldrake (which I haven't got) chaos have very little AA capabilities. I'm considering forgefiends, and if I get a good few hits in the daemonforge should make short work of them. I have havocs with autocannons too, which might get put in reserves so they can walk on with good LOS to the fliers (and don't care if they're snapfiring). the 2 will also be good for if there are no fliers.

The final alternative is to just ignore them. bring enough to kill off the rest of his army then throw krak grenades whenever possible. I like the idea of maulerfiends for fast objective assaults, and it's khorne-y.

anyone got any thoughts on this? I'll start working on a list and see what fits into 1850, I have a feeling the bezerkers might be that bit too naff to have a chance :(

A lot of it greatly depends on your meta. Do you regularly face flyer-heavy lists? Or are flyers more of an incidental thing?

truth be told he almost always brings 2 stormtalons. so looks like forgefiends are what's needed...

Autocannon Havocs behind a Quad Gun are pretty nasty vs. lightly armored Flyers.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

Really, with an Infantry heavy list you simply IGNORE fliers.
The only flyers you cannot hit in close combat that is dangerous at killing infantry is the Heldrake.
And with the new FAQs it will be harder and harder to find lists with 3 Helldrakes.

Just ignore them and try to get the objectives. If they can take objects, they can be assaulted in close combat. If they cannot be assaulted in close combat, they simply can't take objectives.

I suggest you to put Kharn inside a Land Raider with 9 Berserkers. Spam Rhinos with CSM with MoK (Berserkers are too costly to be spammed, also they need an assault vehicle to be effective).
2 Units of 5x Nurgle Spawns (really, Spawns make no sense without that T6, go for Nurgle, even from a fluffy point of view, Nurgle and Khorne have an almost decent relationship, at least for Chaos gods standards). An Heldrake could help you in clearing objectives from some MSU and diverge away some S7 fire from the Rhinos.

there's a guy, i think his name is Ailrois or something like that, here on dakka that seems to specialize in foot slogging armies.

he's done some cool things with berserkers, its doable, even competitive. like it was said earlier, ignore fliers.

sorry the help was so vague.
