Subject: Scoring land Raiders - a good plan or not
So we can have an objective secured Land Raider now. Yet I'm not seeing lists using this at all. BA can obviously do it and so can an Inq detachment. Now BA can spam a bit and field LRs and fast vehicles but Inquisition with Calgar can scout them. It is not that they are more durable in 7ed but that they score and need to be addressed. You cannot ignore them. So I put this together just for fun as an example of what could be done. I'm sure there are better ways though. How would you field a LR spam list in 7ed?
Calgar (looking for master of ambush)
Tigerius (loking for invisibilty)
Coteaz ( inq detachment - rolling sanctid)
Command Squad, 4 melta, 5 shields, apothecary
Drop pod
2x 5 Scouts, shotguns, combi-melta
2x Landspeeder Strom, Heavy Flamer
Objective Secured Land Raiders have a general problem across all armies. You lack serious threats when you dump all of your points into short ranged slow boxes. Any Eldar army will just run around you taking pot shots or ignoring you until a Wraith Knight can get around to opening them. The army you listed has 5 units, 2 of which are easily destroyed. First turn you drop pod in with your 1000 point drop pod, and then you have 3 short ranged land raiders midifeld. You're seriously only threatening one unit on turn one. Turn two everything will fire at your drop pod unit and you're hoping your LSS come in or don't depending on the game and have nothing left in the ranged department to threaten your opponent.

The list was an example of what could be done. I'm also not sure it is the best example of how to go about fielding scoring LRs but we have two choices - Inq or BA
First off the henchmen are scoring in an Inq detachment. Also with ambush they can scout as can my LS squads and the drop will of course drop in. The squad is 800 pts not 1000 btw.
An LR can be dealt with- I fully agree. Can you deal with three scoring LRs though as you consistently rack up points with them? I knwo there are counters.

IMO, the way to go would be blood angels.
You can get 5 landraiders in for under 1750.
As much as I don't like stock raiders, 10 twin-linked lascannons and 5 multi-meltas have a chance at dealing with wraithknights.
Depending on how the meta shifts, opponents might not be showing up with enough anti-tank to deal with them.
Perhaps 2 scoring Land Raiders is good? You don't have 'just the 1' that can be Fragoned or Gravd and such but, with 3 or more you risk your model count being too low...
Eldar (Craftworld Sahal-Deran) 2500pts. 2000pts Fully Painted.
Dark Eldar (Kabal of the Slashed Eye) 2000pts. 1250pts Fully Painted.

I am not playing 7th edition, but have 11 Land Raiders in my collection now (don't ask how.) I keep getting calls from people asking to borrow them for games as dedicated transports for terminator squads just so they can get Objective Secured.
What's funny is these are mostly CSMLRs, and the people asking are always Space Marine players. That's how unpopular they became locally.

Cheap BAHQ
5x Assault Marines - Melta, Meltabombs
Godhammer
5x Assault Marines - Melta, Meltabombs

5x Assault Marines - Flamer, Meltabombs
Godhammer
5x Assault Marines - Flamer, Meltabombs
Redeemer
5x Assault Marines - Plasma Meltabombs
Crusader
DA Librarian - Powerfield Generator
5x Scouts
Nice jy2, I was thinking something like this.... if I hadn't parted with my BA.
Mephiston
Corbulo
5xAM in LRC with MM 5xAM in LRC with MM 5xAM in LR with MM StormRaven
StormRaven
Leaves a few points to spare.
I love me some Corbiston shenanigans but wouldn't you be better suited taking a cheap libby and squeezing in another LR?
Its definitely possible, but where the Librarian just hides and the LR does its thing, Mephistulo can really bring some board control and wanton destruction. Wanton Destruction vs AV14 OS, tough call. Though, losing Corbulo to turn one Storm Raven into another OS Landraider is definitely doable and viable. Mephy alone is still a force to be reckoned with.
