Hello everyone. First time post so be gentle.

I am interested in learning more about the Warring States Period of Ancient China and was looking for source material, books, articles, etc. Its hard to find resources in English so I thought I would ask.

Also, is there anyone out there who has an interest in this period and would build, paint, and collect armies if there were miniatures more accessible?

Thanks,

Joe

I would buy tons of minis if they were available. I've bought a lot of Arcane Legions Han and 1/72 minis, but no one has any 28mm Ancient Chinese stuff in plastic, except maybe for Flying General Workshop, which is apparently no longer sold in the US. The only metals I've seen that I can recall have been by Black Hat Miniatures.

As for resources, I've read Conrad Schirokauer's history of China some Osprey books (with names like Soldiers of the Dragon), The Art of War, and maybe some of those large coffee table books you can find in book store bargain sections. If you're looking for scholarly or rigorous works, I don't know any.

There almost certainly will be figures available in 15mm and 25mm metal. Plastics are still fairly rare in historical wargaming except for 1/72 scale soft plastic but nearly everything can be found in metal.

There are certainly Chinese historical models. Of the top of my head tag, new line and irregular miniatures do 25-28mm metals. I am certain there are more too.

Unfortunately, I really only know about this period through Chinese movies and Japanese video games. I wouldn't know where to begin.

With a subject as generaly unknown as this in my locale, I wouldn't expect to find many or any people willing to collect, but in these situations alot of times its good to build enough to field two armies, because usually historicals players will be willing to play just about anything you're interested in if you have the prerequisite materials to play a game.

Indian heavy chariot armies used to be popular with WRG Ancients players, and are contemporaneous with Warring States Chinese chariots.

My light chariots itch has been scratched by New Kingdom Egyptian.

One of the good things about Ancients is you can play any era army against any other if you are happy to ignore historical reality.
