WAZZUP ALL! After collecting Warhammer 40k for as long as i remember i think its safe to say it was time for a change! And so i've hopped on my warhorse and ridden over to Bretonnia! This is just going to be a project log of the building of my Bretonnian army and a small discussion on what units i should\shouldn't take in my army list! As i am new to the world of Warhammer Fantasy any advice and tips would be much appreciated. But lets not keep you waiting! ENJOY! MF Automatically Appended Next Post: Okay so i'm not 100% sure of what my final list will be as of yet and if there is anyone out there with a really competitive 2000pt list or some suggestions on what i should take then i'd love to hear! But after having a good read of by brand new Army Book (6th ed) that i really liked the look of the trebuchets! However i'm and art student on a budget! (sadly) And the gamesworkshop models are now OOP so i decided to make my own! The design is kind of based on 'The Lazy Trebuchet' by The Lazy Forger, after spending many an hour online looking across the forums for a nice looking treb design i came across his and i have to say that its a great looking model and will be buying my own someday! But before we go on a tangent heres the things you'll need for this project! -Plank of balsa wood approx 4-5mm thick -Plastic card -thick wire -string And then of course some basic tools such as: -Craft knife -Stiff wire brush -steel ruler -pencil Lets get started!!

Okay so this model build is going to be based around strips of 5mm of balsa wood, so using the plank cut as many strips as you can making sure they're incredibly even!

Now thats done what you need to do is figure out the sizing, i'm only making a small Field Trebuchet so i wanted it to fit on the Screaming Bell Skaven model size base that GW provide, however you can edit this to however you want!
I have taken most of the pictures during the build to match up with my cutting matt which is gridded with cm squares to make it easier for you guys.
!!Apologies for the picture quality as it was a spontaneous build they were only taken on my iphone but future posts will be from my SLR!!

The next step will be to build the base structure of the Treb, now the screaming bell base is 30mmx50mm as i understand so if you follow these guide lines you should find it to fit perrrrfectlyyy.
I had also cut a piece of paper to show the size of the GW base.

What your going to want to do now is add all the supporting struts for the frame, now the smaller ones you can see in the centre of the frame are just the strips we cut divided into 4, everything else is the same thickness.

Just add the upward beam of which is the length of space between the front to back beam, approx 75mm.
Then we add the supporting structure which is a little fiddly but you can style this to however you like, the supporting beam is approx 25mm away from the centre beam.

Now what we want to do is add our throwing arm, all i did here was used some wire to push through the frame to have a pivot point for the joint.
Then just using the same thickness strip i made the arm, the arm should be 1-2cm longer than the length of the frame itself for it to look right.
After that i just shaped the arm with my craft knife to the desired shape!

After that it was just a matter of adding detailing such as rope, metal brackets and the weight, however you can design these however you prefer, i made a wooden weight but you can use stone etc.

Just using gravel from the garden that was washed and scrubbed, i then made a sling for the 'giant' bolder with a little bit of green stuff. Now i know my green stuff work isn't amazing but hopefully my painting skill will make up for that.
After that i used the appropriate sized plastic rod and sliced it up into small pieces to create some bolts for the hinges, and so here is the result, i think when painted they will look great!!

So! At long last and after a good couple of evenings solidly working on these bad boys i have finally almost finished 1, had a little bit of spare time to cut out some thin plywood for the bases too!
These should look great when painted. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also thank you guys for the compliments! Nice to get some feedback!

This is pretty cool. I love the Trebuchets, such a cheap and effective way of making catapults without the inordinate expense.

Make way for the Bretonnians! So already my army is looking pretty sizable.
Okay so before i paint them i have to say that it would be great to have a Game Of Thrones themed army, originally i planned on doing the scheme around House Clegane, the house from which 'The Mountain' and 'Hound' are from using dirty yellows as my main flag colour, however as there are no appropriate wolf transfers for the sigil i decided on switching to the traditional red of House Lannister, with the golden lion as my sigil! The Hound and The Mountain serve the king along side the Lannisters so the two paladins i plan on having in my army can be the Cleganes.

Okay so finally is you have followed me thus far, here is the base colours of my Men-At-Arms unit, i didn't want to go all out with the red, i just wanted to give them subtle red uniforms but mostly different shades of brown.
