I really believe this rule has become useless now. I think shadow in the warp should give a +1 to deny with units in range OR a -1 to cast with psykers of equal or lower mastery level in range(or just all levels).
What are your opinions on this and how do you think it should change?(as of right now psykers within 12" suffer a -3 to their LD

Ive thought about this a lot actually. As shadows in the warp was always kind of this iconic problem that is supposed to exist if you face the tyranids and now its pretty much a non factor most of the time.

The -LD is appropriate as psykers fluff wise are supposed to have their connection to the warp hampered. Under 6th this reflected that, however now SiTW has no effect on psykers ability to manifest powers, but may affect their perils test if they have one.

The way it is now it almost seems more Daemonic as your more likely to cause a psyker to suffer perils than be able to access the warp.

Thoughts I had to change it-

Psykers within 12" generate 1 less WC than normal to a minimum of 1.

or

Psykers within 12" require an additional success to manifest a psychic power, ie a WC 1 power requires 2 succeess, WC 2 requires 3 successes, WC3 requires 4 succcesses

I think both of these ideas reflect cutting off the access to the warp to psykers, with the second one also including a greater chance to perils as you will have to commit more dice to try and get a power off.

I kind your second idea, hopefully gw Errata's it. And I'd like biomancy again because it makes perfect sense with Nids!!!

I'd like to see it perform a -1 modifier to Ld for all models that aren't fearless (representing the dread it instills in all who feel it), with psykers instead suffering -3 due to their acute sensations of that.

The problem, though, is the penalty to leadership no longer fits what SitW is supposed to represent. It no longer has any affect on the ability to manifest powers. I truly like the suggestion that it adds to the successes needed.

To that regard, an enemy model under Synapse should treat all Tyranid models as having the Fear special rule. Since GW are obsessed with the Fear special rule, I wouldn't be surprised if this were in a Tyranid Codex that any actual effort went in to.

It shouldn't be within 12", it should be within Synapse range.

If I had my way, Shadows would increase with Synapse range and all Warp Charge rolls within Shadows (both for casting and Deny the Witch) would have a -1 applied to each roll. This would also make Dominion much more useful as a power. Sadly, we will likely have to wait 3+ years for a new book and it seems unlikely that we get a Supplement at this point. I'm also 90% sure I could write a better, more balanced codex than the current one.

Shadow in the warp; when within 12" of a synapse creature shadow in the warp adds +2 to any deny the witch rolls the army makes. This does not stack with any other modifiers.

Fixed, and fufilld its original purpose.

I would either change it to a +1 modifier to deny or make the enemy units within synapse require a +1 to their wc cast. So instead of a 4+ they need a 5+ per WC required.
