I was curious if others have a favorite point value play at.

I enjoy 1250 games. I feel at this point value the games don't get out of hand with models and time it takes to play. It's also fun more ttactical imo since mistakes cost more since you don't have extra back up units.

I like 2000-2500+

Feels more like commanding an army, and I get to use more of the many, many models I have accumulated.

I find 750 to be very fun from a narrative standpoint. Recon units meeting and attacking, but 2000+ gets the sense of the true army, nothing held back. 1000 and 1500 is very dependent on the Codex itself and what exactly you can take is so limited. Like a bite of what COULD be, but never anything more than a taste of the power.

Lower is better. A 4x6 table is small enough to start seriously limiting options after 1,000 points. By the time you get to 1,500, it's just a matter of lining up your minis and seeing who rolls better.

Unless you play on an escalatingly larger table, that is.

The larger the better. I fielding all my models at once. But it depends on what my opposition can field.

My friend completely stands by 1250 point games. He says it forces you make decisions in an army build and every model counts once on the field.

As a start-up, a few of us have been playing 500 point games to get used to the rules (after a decade break) and try out units.

2000.

Although that one Apo match we had with the Immortal Phalanx formation was AWESOME. Necrons with 3+ WBB. Suck it!

I'd be good if people could also post;
+ the table size they play on
+ % of terrain they use

Would be interesting to see if any trends appear.

For me,
500 pts = 4x4 table = min 25% terrain plenty of LOS blocking
1000/1250 pts = 6x4 table = min 25% terrain plenty of LOS blocking

I really like 1500-2000 so that I can actually get some models on the board. With GK, everything is so expensive that playing anything below 1000 is limiting for us. 1250 is okay but I feel like with 1500 I can actually do something besides take the mandatory units.

1000-1250 on a 4X6 board. any smaller and there are to few units for me and larger games work but the time element gets to be to long if you are facing a slow opponent. I am teaching my son to play so we are going to be playing some 500 point games to get the rules down for him though.

Not that my opinion counts anymore but I always thought 1500 and under were the ideal; enough to get some things on the table but eliminates the things that IMO don't belong (Lords of War, most flyers), and not taking an entire day to play. Were I to ever play again I'd likely not play above 1500, ever.

Well the largest battle I sort of played was 1000 points (but it was two people per side with 500 each.) So far I enjoy my 500 point games at the FLGS, but I think I would also like 1000 point games. I fear that while cool, a larger game would take way too many hours, which I just don't have anymore. (nor do I yet own that large a force.)

Thanks,
Duncan

Just big enough for some shiny gubbinz but not large enough that you stop caring about individual units.

Plus, such a point level also makes it relatively easy to remember most rules, so you have the right mix between fun and rules conformity.

200-1800pts. Means that you can get a couple games in, or go for a large, 'every-thing-is-going-to-die-horribly' game, without having incredibly long, games, which can often become quite boring.

I used to play at 750-1000 points on a 6x4 table but most of the time we only used a small part of the table. We started going to 1500 points and seems like a great place to stop.

Also at 750 points some armies were waaaay too powerful and others waaaaay too gimp

For me it really depends on the army. I can have a ton of fun with Orks or Space Marines at 750 and really enjoy the feel of the game. If I'm playing my Tau or CSM though, I tend to have more fun around 2000. I feel like those armies were just meant to play bigger games. Chaos especially shines at higher point levels. I find my Crons downright boring at less than 1200 points.

One of my all time favorite campaigns was actually a "recon" campaign where myself and a fellow Ork player squared off against two IG players. The campaign was suppose to represent two recon forces feeling each other out in no man's land and the largest game played was 800 points. That was a TON of fun.

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug
