Hey there Dakka boyz,
I'm here to pick your mind once again with another Ork post/question. All in all, from reading a lot of post on this forum and playing/watching a couple Ork game in 7th edition, I come to realise that I struggle with Heavy Support choice for my army.

I am currently gearing toward a more ''Speed Freak'' list with a lot of elite choice in trukk, boyz in wagon, flyers and warbikers. Which Heavy Support choice should I go for?
--I don't like much the Mek Kannon release. It doesn't really fit the ''Fluff'' of my list, but more importantly: cost WAY too much for me to buy ATM. (at 50something dollar a pop, oing for a squad of 3-5 seem un-reasonnable).
--Should I then go for Gitz? (I could proxy with Nobz for now) If I do, squad of 5 in a trukk or 10 in a wagon? I feel like they dont have their place in more competitive list due to poor armor save and high point cost. Maybe someone has a different experience with them.
--Should I go for Loota? If so, what are the magic number for the size of the squad, and what should be my priority target?
--Or finally, Should I just put more points in my wagon carrying Boyz so they can become gun platform turn 2? If so, what kind of gunz should I gear it with.

Thanks you in advance! Keep on smashin skullz

Anywhere between 10 and 15 is good for lootas. Priority target depends on their list, but usually light transports, flyers, and medium infantry,

Yeah, mek guns are sweet but just stupidly expensive. I have been using cannons and mortars from my empire army, but crewed by my existing gretchin models, to use as lobbas and kannons for years. Spending money on a model who is more expensive in dollars than they are points is just crazy.

For a speed freak list, I'd say go with battlewagons to get your boys where they need to go safer. Throw a couple of big shootas on them, unless you are trying to spam rokkits. Give them grot riggers and a ram and call it a day!

Imperial armour 8 has some nice choices!

I like Big Trakks with Killkannons or Supa-Kannons. At 95 points for a Killkannon, that's a fairly cheap AP3 pie plate.

Gun Trukks are also handy. While they're a touch expensive, they are a good way some big guns into your list. Hell, the Flakk-gun trukks are expensive, but being able to move flat out while firing at flyers is amazing.

Failing that, you've still got the Supakannon battlewagon at only 10 points more than the old killkannon battlewagon, which drops an even krumpier long range AP3 pie plate.

Daedleh - What is Imperial armour 8?
Warptide - Does Loota really worth it then? Since basicly light transport, flyer and medium infantry are already dealt with the PK in each squad, 2 Dakkajet and MANz missile.

By going with 10, I basicly just deploy them, stay in the back and shoot stuff?

IA8 Is the forgeworld book wiff all da orksie stuffs in it.

My favorite thing to do with lootas is to put 10 inside a big squiggoth from the IA8 book. Throw that sucker in cover and start shooting. Basically, it gives them 5 T5 (or maybe T6, I cant remember right now) wounds before they start actually taking any wounds (and they don't need LD checks for losing the squig). Plus, unlike a trukk, when the beastie dies, it doesn't take half the squad with it.

Big Guns are cheap as hell point-wise, theyre just insane dollar-wise if you arent good at converting things.

Odds are you might see a couple official mek gun models in peoples lists, but the other 8 are Trukk/Buggie conversions (by using something that resembles the weapon in question, you can easily convert multiple big guns out of a single trukk kit. And in all honesty, almost all of our big guns are just an oversized barrel for kannons or something covered in wires for zappy things like traktors/zzaps)

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

If you want a Speed Freaks army, but don't want to pick up IA8 (understandable), you might check out both the Battlewagon and the Looted Wagon (from White Dwarf). Both of these are vehicles, so they fit the Speed Freaks theme, and both of them can pack fairly heavy guns. The battle wagon is tougher, and can carry heavier guns, but the Looted Wagon is pretty cheap, and you can pop a fairly good gun on it, and take a couple of them for HS slots.

Lootas aren't a bad shooting unit at all, and neither are Flash Gits, but both of them aren't particularly associated with the Speed Freaks. However, if you sling them into a Battlewagon, then they are just as speedy as any other unit in a battlewagon!

Yeah. I think HS is not really necessary for a Speed Freak list. I have post the list i'm plannng to use in the other section of the forum, and I really can't see what I would replace with a HS.

As far as fluff goes, I think Mek guns are fine for speed freeks. You'll notice that they have towing hitches that look like they'd work with trukks. Makes sense to me that they'd tow the gun, with grots desperately clinging to it, until they sight the enemy, at which point they unhitch the gun without slowing down and leave the grots to sort it out while they floor it into the battle line.

Sure, it might reduce top speed, but so does a bunch of Meganobz in the bed. If the boss tells you you're not allowed to drive unless you tow a gun, you tow that sucker.

Haha....Bludbaff you just gave me a funny idea for a new ork rule:

Tow Hitch.

A Trukk can "transport" a single Mek Gun by attaching it to a trailer hitch before zooming off into the battlefield. The gun may fire normally if the Trukk only moves 6" or less, otherwise it snapfires.

Basically saying the reason they snapfire when they move is because its too cumbersome to move around...the trukk fixes that unless it goes so fast the gun bounces around too much lol.
If that was a thing, i would so do it for the lawls lol.

If you ask a question: "Do i need big gunz?" you should rephrase it to be: "Do i need the best long-ranged suport that ork codex has?".

I'm sure you can figure something out to make them look built by speedfreaks.

They used to have hooks on trucks just for this reason. The gun could be knocked off the Trukk while moving possibly damaging it .

But in all seriousness, I was more asking: Do I *NEED* HS in a Speed Freak list. I don't mean fluff wise mainly, but more on a list building point of view. If you go with troops in Wagon, Elite in Trukk, fast warbikers, and Dakkajets, whatis the use/place of HS.
