I am picking up an interest into getting into WHFB.

Not the rules, mind you, but the general lore + pretty pictures.

I know you can find those on the web, but I would prefer a solid hardback containing a detailed description of all the races, briefly detailing their background, and some nice artwork to go along with it.

Now usually the Big Rulebooks contain such a section, and there have been several editions released so far, so for those of you who own several WHFB BRBs, which one do you think has the best fluff/background section? Maybe I could pick it up for cheap on ebay if it is outdated.

I want to immerse myself in the lore first before going into the rules.

Cheers

The fluff sections in the BRB are tiny compared to what is in the individual army books. You got maybe 30 pages dedicated to fluff in each army book. And in the BRB you have maybe 2 pages for each army.

Here is a good wiki, however.

You can get the 7th edition full size rulebook for around $20 on ebay.
If its solely for information that's a way to go.
If you are sure you will take the jump you might as well go full size 8th edition because you can learn the rules as well.
Even that you can find for around $40 since most people prefer the mini rulebooks.
If money is of no concern, look for any of the collectors editions. I wouldn't go earlier than 6th edition.

I think fantasy is a fantastic game and looks great when people make the efforts to make their armies look nice.
Tactically it is great and the backgrounds are so rich and diverse.

is the fluff section better in 7th ed or 8th?

They tend to just copy and paste the fluff and edit the rules, you would be more interested in the Black Libary books for fluff type reading, there is something for every army.
