Dedicated transports (including drop pods) are now going to be fast attack choices for Space Wolves.

Guard Pod Lists just became a thing ?

Anyone else have any brilliant ideas?

This just opened up many cans of worms imo

I still think GH drop pods will be more effective for the points.

grav centurions + a character will probably be the best. Centurions kill anything in range and speed and placement are their only weakness and now its gone. Guaranteed gate of infinity one time use.

Do you have the codex? Otherwise I'd wait to see, it sounds like something GW would do to just put it in the wrong slot of the website.

Another powerful feather in Codex: Imperium's cap.

This is fantastic news for that poster who wanted to make an Unbound Scion Drop Pod list though.

I'm thinking drop pod dominions. You know like melta stern guard, but cheaper, ignoring cover, and not combi-weapons so your enemy still has to shoot at them even after they take their shots.

Well orks got trukks as a fast attack choice so it isn't improbable that wolves get drop pods as well, although it sounds very silly. Ogryns could also be a good unit to put in a drop pod.

Multiple sources with the codex confirm.

Heavy flamer retributors...
SWS with Demo Charges.

Grav cents are probably best though.

And I have six grav cents just collecting dust.

I am going to love life it seems.

I was going to avoid the wolves codex, but now I may end up embracing it lmao

You wouldn't be able to pod them *unless* Drop Pods do become non-dedicated for wolves.

...
If that does happen, I may have to do such a thing...

Edit: Awfeel; if they do, that's gonna be a tough decision. I hate taking anything as FA or HS since, when taking both, they are burdens 1/3 of the time (1/6 if taking one...).
This is assuming it's true, obviously. It might be the Space Wolves "thing", since SM got Grav and Cents.

If it is true you can only take 3 cents and a pa character as they are very bulky.
How about BA vanguard vets? The rule states that if a jp equipped VV squad arrives from reserve via deep strike, the player can elect to perform a heroic intervention... so RAW wise it would be legal to put 5 jp VVs in the pod disembark 6" then charge. RAI wouldn't allow it obvs. But nothing wrong with it RAW.

Jump infatry couldn't get in transports unless given specific permission for transport in 6th. I didn't see that change.

Ah you are correct. What a pity. It does however remind me of BA armies (not mine) which must have been illegal with Astorath in a pod...

Drop pod with a unit of purgation grey knights (dont know if its what they are called, the ones with 4-5 psycannons in a single unit)

They can drop down fully in security and wreck havoc, they are less usefull in ordinary games because of low range but if they can drop in out of line of sight but 24 inch from enemy lines they can kill stuff

The extreme price of grav centurions doesn't make them worthwhile IMO. Isn't it 190 points for 3 and 20 each for a grav cannon? Then you have to throw in SM HQ for your allied detachment. I'm just not seeing it.

Yep, I already read it. It would probably work in 1850, but in games under that, you're gonna have a hard time finding the points.

Rune Priest + 2-3 Grey Hunter squads in pods + single FA pod = ballpark 800-850pts

Tiggy + 3x Grav cents + token scouts = ballpark 500pts

So it's 1300-1350pt feasible for four pods. 1500 means five pods, three first turn. Not a more popular seven pod list, but it also has grab cents and tigurius.

I'm more than a little irritated here. Not having the book in hand yet, it certainly seems like Wolves are going to outclass marines in every capacity short of a few combos (which end up better when supplemented by Wolves).

Are you talking about using SW primary or SM primary?

The above can be used as either. Simply take 2x scouts or slot in 2x 5man tac squads in pods for Vanilla Marines troops. Either force qualifies for Allied or Combined Arms detachments if formatted with two vanilla troops.

I was thinking of something like this at 1500:

Ragnar
10 Grey Hunters
Stormfang

40 Grey Hunters
4 Pods

Stormfang only allows 5. Unless you're walking them.

I guess I mixed up the name. I meant the one with the 16 model capacity. Is that the Stormwolf?

At least Marines will be able to run Bike lists far better than Wolves can, and have a stronger Air force. As far as actual Marines it looks like the puppies win again though.

It would be interesting if you played pure SW vs. pure SM. SW have a huge advantage in CC, but most GH squads will be 25-30 points more expensive. SW have always had trouble against vanilla marines if they can't get into combat.

One rule, combat squads. That alone makes marines better then wolves in 7th. They do MSU on the fly and don't have to focus their list around it as a stategy. Being able to make each tac squad into 3 Obsec units is extremely annoying. The also have LotD which are better and cheaper then wolf guard. Heck Wolf guard are only marginally cheaper then sternguard with combis and they again lack combat squading from a pod AND special issue ammo.

I love playing wolves, they are fun and unique, but vanilla marines aren't taking a back seat to these guys.
