Hi I'm Aquatix, sometimes known as Chinacat.
I am starting to play Warhammer 40k and am really into it, I have the dark vengeance starter box and frequently go up against my freind's ultramarines from the assault on black reach set with the Dark Angels. (I always beat him tee hee!)

I have £70 to spend on starting an army and I'm really interested in orks. I have looked at the GW website and I could get a trukk, 2 packs of boyz and a warboss with squig. Any better starter ideas?

To be honest that's a pretty solid start long as you can still afford some paints and the glues

Using that small setup you can run some small games, or join up in some 2v2 or 2v1 and see what you're lacking to decide on your next purcharses.

Yeah the only paint Ill order along with that will be some orange cos I already got the starter set as 'm crap at painting so really all I needed was some bases.

What do you think I should get afterward?

But once you got a large enough core of boys you probably want to invest in enough anti-tank capability, not being an Ork collector I would not be able to steer you in the right direction... However being an Ork Collector you are spoilt for choice I'd go with what you really like the look of and build your army around that, but Anti-tank is fairly vital when I started I was always lacking enough fire power to take down all the damn tanks that would be thrown at me...

In one incident my Predator, Dreadnaught and Havoc Squad were annialated on the first turn and so had to Fist an Imperial Knight to death using Terminators equiped with Power-Fists... It was glorious but not a situation you want to be in as an Ork

On painting:

If you don't want to put much effort on painting for now you can get solid table top quality just by doing the flesh with Castellan Green, leather accesories with Mournfang Brown, weapons with your prefered metalic colour and then your Army Colour of choice and just washing the entire model with Agrax Earthshade.

Takes very little time and gives you a dark, gritty, dirty Ork with little effort!

So more dakka then. Seems easy enough as yeah there are a lot of Ork units to choose from!

That painting method is what I did with my spess mehreens and literally just now with some cultists, albeit different colours.
I don't have castellan green but I do have Waaagh Flesh so yeah should be alright!

tankbustas are pretty good now just keep them in cover as the will draw fire,
meganobs with a couple killsawz in a battlewagon keep in open topped so you can assault out of it
smasha guns or kustom mega kannon cheap and will usually smash up armour
battlewagons with killkannon and zzap gunz

Ah the Orks, the crawling "Green Pit" of 40k games lol They are good but bare in mind they lost their Mob rule so get even bigger numbers lol
