As you can tell from the title of this topic I am looking for ideas for a colour scheme for my imperial guard regiment The 912th penal (plus I also need a nickname for them). I looked at the last chancers and liked the dark yellow and I also like the steel legion mustard sort of colour. What I'm trying to say is that i would like sort of a orangy-yellow scheme. Is this the normal colour for penal legions. If it does fit in with the lore what paints should I use?
Thanks

Afaik there is no set colour scheme for penal regiments.

As with anything 40k related, rule of cool is always valid.

From the fluff I've read about IG Penal Units, the members come from a huge variety of different regiments so my squad reflects that.
I figured that individual troopers were sent to Penal duty with the uniform they had so everyone can look different.

I use my Penal squad as a test for different camouflage schemes and ideas I have.

Thanks guys. Any ideas for a scheme considering the fact I only want to get the regular imperial guard box sets (e.g. Not going to get tallarn desert solders kit)?

I like your yellow idea, but would go for dark grey trousers with yellow jacket.

good tattoo decals, and I would mix Cadians with Catachans, also a nice color scheme but you could make it brighter or darker.

also I might change the armor/ clothes to grey.

Spoiler:

I just went for rags. In my opinion id go for something non uniform and go with the whole ragtag look instead.

Random cammo, whatever happened to be spare is mixed rags, fatiques of many patterns, bit torn etc or mid matched?

Basivcaly whatever is left after a few regiments are formed and shipped out to many different war zones. The last few crates in a warehouse or passing surplus.

I'm having them as a detachment to my imperial guard force. The back story is that they were sent to aid my main guard force in defence of the last bastion of imperial dominance after a rebellion on Sophus prime. To represent a detachment of troops in say a 1000 point army, how many would you suggest?
A squad? A veteran platoon of minimal size? What Percentage of the force would you suggest for larger games? By the way my main force is a adeptus machanicus themed force.
