Man, I saw this this morning during my wake-up-check-facebook stage of my day, I'm stunned.

I'm a Warcraft lore NUT so when I see an alternate reality where the Horde wasn't a bunch of rampaging, demon-infused crazies but their original, shamanistic badass selves...I'm excited.

And when Grom dumps the cup back into the cauldron I smiled.

Whos the main bad guy in this one? I havent played in years.
Deathwing was the last big boss I recall.

While it is cool, I can't help but feel that this is signaling an empty tank on creativity. Rather than make something new, we're now just kinda farting around in this parallel reality.

While I kind of agree. The main point is to help the upcoming war with the burning legion. Like a full blown burning legion invasion. The likes we have never seen.

The last time they said that was at blizzcon and it was a joke. They cannot tell the truth. Is he really the final boss? We don't know. But now that I've done research, I find it dumb it is Grom. Come on blizz. Let us fight Archimonde in all his glory. And lets have grom become the new racial leader of the orcs.

But what point is there in this weird parallel setting, then?

It takes away any kind of urgency to an invasion. Call me simple, but if you want to go about an invasion...why not talk about the INVASION? Why not have the invasion happen? I have a very hard time getting invested in an adventure when it says right on the box that "this is an alternate timeline sorta thing so it really doesn't matter". If it is all alternate stuff, why am I even here?

Because we have had kul'tiras, or the naga.
There is alot to do till then.

(lets not forget the missing elemental lord and a few other stories that are missing. Such as northern lordaeron, The Forsaken problem, stromgarde)

Currently the horde is running low on troops. The orc population was decimated, so this is a way to boost up the population.

And that is kinda my point, Asherian. There ARE other stories out there. Why aren't they doing those? Why are we backpedaling in time to muck about with this nonsense?

Because it's a more interesting storyline then the last 3 expansions based purely on the fact of old orc guys being in it.

Because of many reasons.

The Arrakoa being a major reason to do it. I mean we know nothing about them.

There are more than just orcs in this expansion.

Having got to experience it.

It was quite amazing. Mainly shadowmoon valley.

Plus who doesn't love the old orc history?

Haven't really enjoyed an expansion story line since Frozen Throne. This one looks pretty sweet.

But was anyone ever interested in the Arrakoa? I mean, come on. I played WoW from Vanilla to Cataclysm and not once did I hear "oh man I hope we go learn more about those throwaway bird people!" We might as well have an expansion about the history of Quillboars, for all the sense that makes.

And here is my main point. I gave some more thought to it, and I think I have been able to sum up my point: this expansion robs the players of any sense of agency. Think about it, there's two ways of handling this kind of alternate timeline plot:

1. It is entirely alternate and the player effects there do not carry over into what we'd call the main timeline. From my perspective, this kills any sense of accomplishment for me, as I know right out that nothing I do is having any kind of effect. It is less than a sidequest. It is just fanfiction. It has no weight and, other than providing me a chance to fight a dead named character, what am I doing?

2. It DOES carry over and the player actions here change the real timeline. First of all, that creates an uncleanable mess of the history and sets off a whole lot of 'what if' paradoxes. But also, if it does happen that way, it invalidates the experience up to that point. After all, what were we as players fighting for if in a few expansions, it all just changes anyway?

Now I understand it from a gameplay perspective. But from a story perspective, it is a bad step, imo.

I suspect that it will somehow tie into the "mainstream" reality. iirc, Blizzard's been dropping some hints that this new expansion will finally resolve the question of what happened to the two missing Alliance heroes from Beyond the Dark Portal (one of whom is the missing Windrunner sister). That's been an open plot point since it was introduced in TBC. If it turns out that they're somehow imprisoned in this alternate reality, then exchanges with it have been going on for quite a while.

Its 2. Because stormwind is threatened, and is the entirety of azeroth. If we do not stop it, it is GG.

They are having it there for many lore reasons. more than just to fight the warlords.

We have never seen artistically what draenor looked like before it was turned into a barren wasteland.

Now we have that chance.

I mean we knew nothing about the arrakoa. We know more about the quillboars than the arrakoa. Now its about equal.

This might be because they might either be a playable race for the alliance or.... They liked the arrakoa.

Omg. If they introduced those two back....

The Alliance will finally have unity again.

Yeah, the Old Gods, who totally aren't based on everyone's favorite Elder God, and thus insanely cool! I honestly think that'd make a cool expansion. Old God problems, and underground xones or something.

Azeroth's threatened because Garrosh is getting an Orc army to invade the world.

1. This adds to the amount of troops the orcs in the horde has. As currently they are understrength.
2. The lore currently says there are less than ten thousand orcs alive in azeroth.
3. Draenor is a rich world.
4. It introduces characters we never seen or heard of.
5. It gives us a reason to like Maarad
6. Khadgar does something for once.
7. We get to see the frostwolf clan.
8. The Alliance gets more troops as well and a power commander if rumors are true about Turalyon being in this world.
9. With the introductation of old draenor we get to see somethings we never knew existed.
10. Thanks to Karios intervention this would allow the world to be prepared for the things to come.

1 and 2 are the same, and do not require a convoluted timeline bending to make work.

3 likewise does not need some bending of timeline to get.

4 is pointless. All expansions can do that.

5 I don't know so I can't comment.

6 that is all said and done. Why does he need to do new things? Why not make a new character and do something? It reeks of insecurity.

7 why do we need to break the timeline for this?

8 again, this is hardly needed by breaking the timeline. Also see my point about Khadgar for Turalyon. Why is the writing team so unconfident that they can't make new characters?

9 and this is different than any other expansion how?

10 and why do we need t again go on a pointless time loop for this?
