Howdi folks ! I bought a couple of tyranid models to break the slur of painting necrons and chaos all the time and to get a third 500 point army so i can learn to play with 2 of my friends after the new edition came out. The options for the warriors/prime really blew my mind since i lack experience in the game and against tyranids to even comprihend which are decent choices. So wondered what type of setups for my tyranid prime and the two warriors that i still have are decent picks. Currently for the prime i had in mind: Bonesword, whip and scything talons. For the warriors a venom cannon with rending claws and one with bonesword, whip and rending claws. I was thinking of giving the prime a bonesword, whip and a ranged weapon (devourerer) but like i said i'm am very new to playing and lack the experience to feel convident about the choices i made so any help is greatly appreciated !

The most simple set up is Deathspitter (better than a Devourer for five points per) and Scything Talons. With one warrior per brood having a Barbed Strangler to pin an enemy squad. For close combat, Bone Swords and rending claws. I'm not sure if the special rules stack to give an AP2 Insta-kill on a wound roll of six, but that is what I see most often. For the Prime, sure, you could put a whip on it but again, you have to decide if you want it just assault orientated, which is pretty much a waste of the special rules, or with the gun, and again, Deathspitter, not Devourer.

Don't mix and match biomorphs though. One warrior gets a cannon, the rest all get the same loadout. You also can't have a brood of just two Warriors. Three minimum. If you have a gun, you can't shoot and run. If you have just assault biomorphs, you can run every turn and close that gap faster. Mix it up and it just slows down the guys that need to get in faster and doesn't help anyone.

i know about the three guys rule i just havent got the time to buy another box

Ok so just to get it straight since im a total newb :p. If i have a squad of 3 warriors + a prime the setup would either be: 1 with a cannon, the rest melee (boneswords and rending claws). I thought the bonesword + whip gave the insta kill life leech rule ? so would it be bonesword + whipand rending claws on the other two models. The other setup would be 1 cannon and the rest deathspitter + talons.

I have not really worked out a tactic yet but the idea was to let the shootyness be done by a dakkafex so i guess the warriors could be assault-ey.

Sounds like you've got it...The Warrior Brood must be 3+ Figs, one can, and should have a Cannon. The Prime is separate, and has a special rule that buffs all the Warriors in a Brood she joins. The Lash, almost guarentees striking first (+3 I) For the other Warriors I'd just add Rending Claws. Deathspitters are a very nice upgrade, and not too expensive.

So as an example...Warior Brood, x3 (90 points) Strangle Cannon (10 points), Deathspitters, x2 (10 points), Rending Claws x2 (10 points) would run 120 Total for the Brood. The Prime would buy her own kit. Glands are a upgrade, but they are an extra expense. Flesh Hooks are also available, and are a very nice upgrade for pure CC Warriors ( Rending Claws, Flesh Hooks, Scything Talons)
