In the Chaos Wastes, Killing the Chaos scum of the north

For non-binary folks as well as LGBT folks, representation in the media is desperately needed, and this game is delivering what many of the big-name games haven’t. Pumpkin Online is made by a development team headed by an African-American woman and they’re aiming to make this game as inclusive and friendly as possible. This is a farming/romance sim mixed up with an adventure MMORPG and made incredibly diverse.

You want to play a non-binary character? You got it! You want a range of races in your NPC neighbors? Done! Clothing choices and body features not restricted by gender? It’s in there! Relationships in no way affected by gender or lack of gender? Yes, that too!

Come on guys this game sounds aweome! please back it.

Huh. Sounds neat. Similar in a sense to Stardew Valley, though the latter won't likely have the same level of diversity.

So basically any generic farm simulator with no new gameplay features. Huh? Making same-sex marriages and "non-binary gender" (...) your game's main "feature" is...questionable.

Someone explain the 50$ reward tier to me, though. 1 account is 20$, 50$ gives you and a friend of yours 1 account. 20$ + 20§ = 50$? O_o

So harvest moon cross animal crossing and put it online. I like the idea. I'd like to see more mmos that don't revolve around combat. (Just maybe a more fantastical setting.) My only complaint is that the screen shots don't look good, but they can work on things.

Are there really enough farm simulators for their to be tiers of them? Did I miss the part where the market was flooded with farm simulators?

There really aren't that many non-casual farm simulators, to my knowledge.

I am hopeing for something more like harvest moon over farmvil. Though how do you make a hard core farm sim. You know it's farming.

At that point you probably just give them some seeds and point at the land irl.

The casual market is. Ever since the advent of Farmville and co, tons of similar farming simulators have risen and are still going.

Do all the farm animals cohabit with animals of any gender and species?

I really don't have an issue with games being more inclusive... But to make a game where the entire selling point is that you can dress people up in whatever you want and seduce whoever you want is a bit... Weird.

Even harvest moon is still mostly about entering the community and farming, not dress up and seducing.

Just because a feature is advertised as something new and different from the norm doesn't mean it is the only thing that the devs care about, you know-- or even that it's part of the core gameplay mechanics.

Of course, but when it is advertised as something new and different to seperate it from the other games, then you can discuss it as a defining feature of the game. So far we have nothing to suggest that they are developing anything other than generic farming sim number 97268629, now with added sexual/gender/identity diversity shoehorned in!

How well that fits in with the game they create remains to be seen. It will be interesting to see how they implement all the different genders and sexualities etc without creating a horrific mess...

Other games of the same subgenre you mean.

There haven't been that many non-casual farming sims to begin with. No, games like Farmville don't count.

I would say that is supporting his claim . Japan tend to do weird. Often weird not-so-good, but sometime weird good too.

If it's a core feature, then it's not shoehorned in.

Amusingly I'm the one that is saying it's not a core feature, yet I still don't feel it's shoehorned in.

More customization is better than less customization. I can't really think of a single game that wouldn't benefit from more.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Probably work

Farming/romance sim?

I grew up in the middle of a farming state, surrounded by fields and animal farms on all sides. I can say that there's very little intersection between farming and romance. It's hard to respond to that "come hither" look when all you can smell is the pig farm right next to you..

I... may just not be the target demographic though.

I'm guessing the anger is due to a perceived attempt at redefining words. I don't actually understand what the classification even means myself, since he broke it out as being separate from the LGBT people. I'm still waiting for the game where you play a colorblind hero. I'm quite discriminated on like that though.

This is probably not the thread to have that conversation though. Ideally, no thread would be the one to have that conversation, as I think it's something we've done before and would probably be quite exhausting.

No, they were truthful. The woman always leaves the guy in the country songs, remember?

To be fair it's pretty much the same, Farming Simulator has to have some of the most drunken drivers of farm equipment I've seen.

Eastern farming sims just romanticize the whole thing.
