I've wanted to do a forgeworld kroot army for ages and I've come across the chance to pick up a fair bit of stuff to get me started.

I just checked and realized that Forgeworld has discountinued everything though. before I go ahead with this I have a few questions....

1. does anyone know where the rules are? i remember them as pdfs but they were experimental. i play mostly casual with friends so those would be ok but Id still like to get the most up to date that i can
2. does anyone have ideas of what I could use them as in a proxy? I LOVE the models and I'm sure I could find a use but I'm trying to think this through. A kroot army fits quite well with Eldar Exodites so I'm sure something could fit. but its still a concern.

and if anyone has any knarloc riders they want to get rid of, hit me up

avoiding the lorax on Crion

Some have vanished as retooling moulds etc due to sheer wear and tear meaning they need work.

i know theyre gone but getting the rules is my problem. ive emailed forgeworld but havent heard back yet. they used to be free PDFs but now theyre missing..

i heard they were all discontinued because no one bought them.

i want to find the official rules to play them as kroot but then im also hoping to find something i could proxy them as. thatd be neat if i could figure it out..

The rules are in IA3 (second edition).

Rules are in IA3 2th ED as mentioned, but the model was indeed removed for good as it did not sell, just like other kroot models, and the drone turrents.

If they would have realized its because their rules werethey were practically the worst units per point in the game it would have been easy to fix, but they missed it.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

The pdf rules weren't bad at all. Once the greater knarloc became a MC. And the riders are decent enough. I need those pdfs!

Why? They aren't legal rules, so what's the point in worrying about them? If you want to use the rules you need to get IA3.

In the latest sweep of the Forgeworld site, all special Kroot units from IA3 have been removed from the site. As well some of the special hammerhead turrets.

I got a confirmation the Kroot units will not be coming back

Its a shame I wanted to get some Knarloc riders, even though their rules sucked, mounted Kroot look cool .

you can always buy from chinese casters....morality becomes less of an issue if the model is out of production

I'd have to agree there. its not a question of getting the real thing anymore once the real thing is impossible to get.

Still would not recommend them though, they are seriously unplayable.

Do the rules even work any more?

Anyone else getting the feeling FW is focusing more and more of their efforts on selling Imperial only stuff? Specifically HH stuff?

As in, like their name implies?

IoM always has and always will be the focus of FW, even more than GW.

I don't think so, some of the more obscure IG stuff has also disappeared recently. I think it's just what they said, the kits didn't sell very well so now they're gone. Blame it on GW's awful financial state and obsessive need to cut costs everywhere they can.

Aye they have to drop some older moulds/models which were just not selling - many companies do it if they have a line of optional models that are just not pulling in volume sales to the point where its vaible to retool their moulds (FW likely doesn't replace moulds until they have to, so a mould could wear out and be put to shelf as they wait for their stock to run dry - if several lines are not selling well that could quickly mean they have a multiple selection of mould that htey can drop all at once).

Kroot no longer being a near own army choice in the Tau book likely helped kill off some of the Kroot options for sale as the market wasn't as interested in them any more.

I really dont get it.

Arent FW a specialized website that takes orders in a different manner than your more mainstream GW? Dont you already pay through the nose for FW orders + shipping?

Why wouldnt they simply take an order, and THEN cast the resin and ship it just like any knockoff chinese recast manufacturer does? That way they dont have to hold stock and thus not worry if something doesnt sell.

You'd think in this day and age they'd have completely switched over to 3d printing anyways.

This has me concerned, was halfway into building the FW section of my Kroot Mercs.

Time to go ebay hunting.

*Edit* Really hope this is because they are going to update them, although I know they probably never will.

Yea, they removed a lot of Warhammer Forge stuff as well, including such iconic models as Tamurkhan and the Land Ship.

Arun - far as I know 3D printing is currently only used for masters not mainstream miniature production. In fact barring a few garage groups nearly every single miniatures company (even those in china) are still using the normal casting methods with resin/plastic/metal. Far as I'm aware you need an utterly stupidly expensive 3D printer to print so that you can do fine detail without the lines appearing - its ok for Master copies because you can fine clean them up - for products though no one wants to spend hours cleaning (1 mould line is bad enough - now imagine dozens all over the model!).

The Kroot section was removed entirelyfrom the site, and my email from Forge world made it pretty clear those models are never coming back.

Rather than ebay you might have better luck posting on the bigger 40k message boards. gamers are hoarders, I don't doubt there are a bunch still in bag unassembled out there in gamer closets. The rules as written for them were pretty lame. a cav unit meant for assaulting but has a 6+ armor and a special rule taking away sweeping advance.

IA3: 2nd ed is slowly becoming less worth the money as more models disappear.
