My brother and I had this conversation, and I thought it would be an interesting poll.Personally, I would pick to be a librarian every day of the week. Mind- bullets FTW.

I went to Hershey Park in central PA this year, and I have to say I was more than a little disappointed. I fully expected the entire theme park to be make entirely of chocolate, but no. Here in America, we have "building codes," and some other nonsense about chocolate melting if don't store it someplace kept below room temperature.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Techmarine, knowing that the weapons and armor you create (and improve) will be used for Millenia seems nice.

Preferably one of the SW's Iron Priests, they seem to have more fun tasks than the techs of other chapters,if that isn't possible, one of the iron hands for obvious reasons.

For me, a 1st company veteran.

Worked hard from a scout, through a battle company and then be elevated into the 1st. I use a couple of squads of SGV in most of my lists, so that would be me as a marine, lots of shooty death to choose from to kill the enemies of the Imperium.

The kind that looks into a mirror at his meaty ugliness and contemplates suicide.

Honestly being a Marine is like a horror both physically and mentally in my opinion. Imagine having urges to run towards machine guns, or struggling to do anything delicate with your giant sausage fingers, or not being able to mingle with the populace because youre so large and different you would struggle to do anything with them. Buying a car would be hard with your weight and size. Playing paintball would make you at a huge disadvantage due to size. You would need a butler/maid to do a lot of ordinary tasks that your meaty hands could not do on their own.

Thats just some the physical problems.

Being a Space Marine would suck.

I would like to be a dead Marine...

Being a Space Marine isn't especially gakky for the same reason being an Ork isn't especially gakky.

Space Marines, like Orks, instinctively love their jobs. If you were an Astartes, you wouldn't have the self-awareness to realize how crap your life is. Dying horribly in the midst of battle is in fact your greatest dream.

FYI, Scout Sergeants/10th Company Captains still serve on the front lines. There is not such thing as a space marine that leads from the back. I go with Apothecary, as while you're still serving on the front lines when outside of the front line, but dammit, if I die I'll do so saving somebody rather than random act of pointless bravado number 7364626.

This might be a matter of older fluff. I was under the assumption that the fluff still had scouts and neophytes recieving least some sort of basic training before being sent out. These training bases being housed at home fortresses behind the lines.Of course, the trainers were usually the has beens who were too beat up to cut the mustard on the front lines. When was this part of the fluff changed?
Of course, you might be thinking of the scout squads and so forth AFTER this basic training has been given to them. As these trainers are usually older and wounded beyond being as effective as newer and younger marines, the capters make use of their minds and talents to pass what they know on tonew marines so they are not sent out totally ignorant of what is going on. For example, look at the wolves, they dont even know what a bolter is and have to be taught to use it.
For front line duty... I think the chaplains are pretty dern cool and if I'm gonna be up front on the lines, might as well look snazzy while there. Encouraging the rest of "the boys" would be right up my ally anyway.

Apothecary. I like playing as a healer in many games and so I'd like helping other Space Marines in battle and ensuring the continuation of the chapter by collecting gene-seed.

Also, as a VIP (in SM terms), I'd be more protected and not generally thrown into suicide missions
