Pulsating Possessed Chaos Marine
|
Hey guys. Basically looking at the best way to deliver Abaddon across the table to deliver doom. I'll start by saying that for me, a land raider isn't an option for a good few months; I have to work with the models I have so far - which is at least 10 of all chaos infantry that exists minus noise marines, mutilators and thousand sons (only 1 obliterator). Options I've considered:
1) Termies with Mark of Slaanesh and Icon of Excess, deepstriking. Expensive; a squad of five of these guys with combi-melta weaponry plus the marks/icon is around 250pts. They'd deep strike in with Abaddon, and provide him with excess wounds as well as FnP for the entire squad due to the icon.
2) Chaos Marine mob - 20 chaos marines, close combat weapons, 2 x melta guns. This squad runs up, firing their meltas at passing vehicles. They all have preferred enemy thanks to the attached Abaddon - the entire squad would cost 290 pts, but would be susceptible to blasts. Though they could wreck most infantry in close combat, as Abaddon besides, the 20 on the charge would hit with 60 str 4 attacks. Again, giving them a Mark of Slaanesh and Icon of Excess would be viable here to give them all FnP and I5 - would cost 50 more points though
3) Cultist mob; pretty basic. 35 cultists, 150pts. WYSIWYG; pure meat shields that can later pull away to harrass an objective if any survived.
Thanks for your time fellas; critique of the current options or new ones would be welcome

5 MoN spawn is by far the most cost effective way to move him relatively fast.

Mon spawn are a good trick, especially since you can konga line them but cultists work too, i really wouldn't suggest marines or terminators since Abaddon is such a boss that he can punch out anyone in close.combat anyway, the o ly thing he needs is cheap ablative wounds

Is it ever worth Deepstriking him with Obliterators or Combiweapon Terminators?

No. All he can do is fight in assault. Deep Strike is not for assault troops.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Buy a land raider. Yes I did read it, but that is still the answer.

I see your LR and raise you a spartan assault tank. I want the 12" PE bubble to cover half the board!

Isnt the silly conga line sling shot of Spawn faster and even more reliable than any tank even? From what I have heard and what I see on paper it really does seem the best option but Im not even sure Abaddon is worth taking anymore in 7th unless they re-added to the faq his immunity to Spawn/Prince rolls.

The spawn sounds like a very good idea; one I hadn't considered, and the one I will probably end up running with. Thanks very much guys!
And you're right that they need to redo his Daemon Prince/Spawn rolls - though from what I've heard from camp GW that'll be written in eventually.
I think Abaddon is indeed worth taking; he's a huge fire magnet, allowing rhinos to move down flanks relatively unharmed. Plus, minus Super-heavies/huge fearless hordes, there's relatively little he can't cause a whallop in.

True, I rearead his stats and what really makes him stand out is the rare Eternal Warrior. I forget he has that since so few Chaos characters get it.
