Okay so my buddy just came over and ruined my day... he says that MC's don't automatically ignore armor saves in cc for the 7th edition rules... someone please tell me he is misconstrued and please provide me with a source of correction, b/c if not all of my favorite lists have just become useless...

He is incorrect.

MCs have the Smash rule, which makes all of their melee attacks AP2, which effectively is the same as ignoring armor.

right but is that only if you choose to smash or does that roll over to the multiple attacks in the profile if I choose not to smash like if I attack a troop unit or something of the like?

The rule is pretty clear, having the rule gives certain benefits, and then you can chose to smash for further benefits w/ a penalty.

Smash is 2 parts.

Passive: ap2 cc attacks
Active: double str attack

The passive is always going, whether you use the active part or not.

I see tons of people struggling to understand this, but it seems pretty simple.

Yeah, echoing what people are saying here. Monstrous Creatures have the USR Smash which makes their CC attacks AP2 (or AP1 if fighting with an appropriate weapon).

Can't quote the rulebook for the Monstrous Creature profile but you'll find it with the other unit types near the front of the book, I think aorund page 50 or so..

Sounds like your friend was trolling. If he was true, Tyranids would be terrible. Luckily, he is incorrect.
