Glad ya'll like em. I'm pleased with the red and white scheme - it has body and saturation, unlike much of my painting which is more washed out and subtle.

Nice bit of freehand on this marauder. I've tried to give him a barbarian look. Been watching conan a lot. Eventually I should like to get more of these for fun conversions.

Very nice. I really like the look of the wood behind the shield cover too. That's often very hard to get looking right.

Wood is a tricky one. I usually start with a bright biege and then wash it with various browns.

Speaking of vanilla models, this dwarf has to be one of the ultimate boring one posers. But I only have one so he can pretend to be unique and he scrubs up quite well.

Ok so. This brettonian had missing arm and broken bow, which I fixed with an arm from the militia sprue. Looks good as new, another henchman for the retinue.

I took this fella to be a necromancer. Plastic figure, seems old. Obviously his tooth-pickaxe is an old weapon-swap.

Love the look of the archer. He seems so lifelike.

Yes Big H rummage, you never know what might be in there. If nothing else, the price of second hand oldhammer is riding high atm.

Well JB I only changed an arm! I think it is a slightly more lifelke pose than the original though.

True. I sold a ton of stuff a couple of years back and got nothing compared to prices now , gutted !
Only problem if I start on the old stuff I bought as a kid is it will add even more weight to the painting table .....

I've been busy... Busy prepping 22 plastic skaven! Each skaven needed to be sawn off its slotta so I could stick them to my skaven flagstone bases (sometimes I regret the decision to do all the skaven with flagstones, but It gives them a dungeony look.) I also moved the weapon arms around to create new poses that would let them stand together in a regiment wihout poking the ratman in front. A simple pose change like this gives them much more character. I've almost got enough 80s-90s ratmen to be called an army now.

They look good so far weety, You would need a lot more for an army though.

Lets see,

10 clan rats
22 skaven slaves
6 gutter runners
10 plague monks
1 warpfire team
1 warlord
1 champion
1 special character

Ok so its probably not an army by todays standard, but its a raiding party if not a warband. One of these days...

No rat ogre, no screaming bell, no doomwheel. I think I just like small models best.

They've come up really nicely. I just bought a bunch of Skaven from a trade forum (should have them in hand tomorrow or Saturday), and I picked up a replacement copy of AHQ last year via eBay to replace the one I sadly gutted years ago. Your pics here make me want to get stuck into the rats immediately!

Advanced heroquest is a fun little game, especially if you mod the rules a touch. I love the sense of exploration and uncertainty the random dungeon generator gives. Its almost like a computer game

I'll try and get a few close ups of the individual skaven when I can. The day job is taking all my energy.

That old style Gobbo is wonderful. 'Course I still remember when that was a new style Gobbo, but it is wonderful in any age.

I especially like his hooded tunic and its red color. It makes me nostalgic.

For some reason I've not been in the mood for fantasy recently. Real life intrudes.

Anyway I thought I'd share this with you, which I picked up at the car boot sale for a tenner. I think its a badger 200 series. I don't know if its any good but I think I could make a profit if I sold it. Anyone ever use this one?

Hey Weety ! I use a Badger 200 !

It would most likely be described as "old skool" these days but they are very workable if you get a nice fine needle, and I modded a small side feed cup for suction feed, keep it and see how far you can get with "old skool" !

Cool I might just do that. I wonder if it would be compatable with the cheap parkwood air compressor I've got. Tube looks the right size. And you can get the fine needle online for about a fiver.

I feel like I should have haggled him down... But when I saw it was a badger and still in its box I felt like giving him the tenner without a struggle. Looks like its been in that box since the 90s. Hope the tube is still ok. Looks like you'll pay up to 50 quid for it if you want to buy it now on feebay.

Looking at your pics Big H it looks like you used this airbrush to great effect on your camo vehicles.

To be honest Weety I think you did well for a tenner !

Thankyou , yes I use the airbrush for camo, I use it for mass painting single colours and varnish too !
I use a very cheap compressor that when you turn the pressure down low enough for fine work lets out air in little "puffs" , like a series of dots, so I run the air into a converted compressed air can first before it goes to the brush and that stopped it .

Practise ALOT and Good luck !

Well I was gone for a while, but now I'm back. My thinkpad 43 finally gave up the ghost. But it lives again! Needed a new hard drive and finally had to give up on windows XP.

Anyway being offline for awhile let me finally brush a few things that have been kicking about.

First off I really enjoyed thinking up "metal band tee-shirt" type designs for these coffin shields:

I gave these wolf riders the treatment, and they scrubbed up well.

And also I painted another archer for the retinue, and converted a broken one into a crossbowman.

Great to see you've got your groove back! I'd love to see an entirely Metal /\m/\ themed undead army!

You might see one gradually coalesce here. Getting hold of more coffin shields would be the next step.

If it was good enough for an 80’s metal cover, it’s good enough for an undead army! Love those skeletons. While the coffin shields are better, the round one fits in, so you could stretch out the unit if needed.

The goblins are great as well. I’ve got a strong nostalgic bias though, as my friend played a primarily goblin army back in the day, and I saw a lot of the cheeky little buggers. Good times, good memories. The wolves might be a little buck-toothed and goofy, but that was the order of the day.
