So, with the recent release of Rebel Aces, followed immediately by the Scum&Villainy preview, does it seem to anyone else that the X-wing is beginning to lack options compared to other ships? While the X-wing does currently hold the title for largest number of character pilots (and 2nd for total number of pilots), it seems almost that you don't have any options after you choose your pilot. Sure, the options you do have have been getting better (Flechette Torpedoes, New Astromechs, Elite Talents that aren't inferior to PTL, etc.), but when you compare them to:

B-wing: Benefits from the Torps and EPT's, plus now gets crew members in addition to advanced systems and cannons.

A-Wing: Able to stack EPT's on top of each other, as well as having a huge selection of actions.

Y-Wing: Will soon be playable in a completely different faction, with a whole stack of pilots, five custom Astromechs, access to bombs, and two as-yet-to-be-revealed upgrades. It also benefits from the increased variety of Torpedoes and Astromechs.

While I admit that the X-wing is not necessarily a bad ship [cough]TIE Advance[/cough], and as I mentioned earlier has the largest number of character pilots, does anyone else feel that it is being pushed to a "Boring, yet practical" workhorse role, and could really use just a few more options?

Yes, but this has been happening for awhile now; it isn't exactly anything new.

But the X-Wing -was- the "boring, yet practical" workhorse role of the Rebels. What made an X-Wing good was the pilots, not the ship itself, and I feel like FFG has done a great job of highlighting that.

Biggs still has the best pilot skill in the game. Wedge will always be awesome. In Jek you have a pilot that is a lot of fun to fly.

I like the X-Wing as is. I might like to see 1 or 2 of the variants come up but AFAIK thanks to Disney they no longer exist. Perhaps when this new movie comes out we will see a new X-Wing variant. Maybe a rogue squadron title card allowing a varied secondary weapon since the rogues used the venerable X-Wing for pretty much everything including carrying ion cannons.

Despite disney existing we are getting ship variants like the b-wing/E2 ad the no-missiles a-wing. I wouldn't worry too much.

A title upgrade card would be good:

"Rogue squadron" Costs 1 point.
Adds 1 pilot skill and an Elite talent.
Must be pilot skill 4 or higher.

I agree with this sentiment.

I think FFG has done a pretty impressive job at translating what we see in the movies and other media to tabletop. Case in point, re-watch the Death Star trench run from the first movie and then look at the pilot skills for Biggs, Wedge, and Luke.

I really want to love the X-Wing on the table, and maybe I just missed out on it's heyday in gameplay by not starting until wave 4, but it seems the only X-Wings I can ever get to work well is Luke and Biggs. I've had limited success with Tarn and R7, but far too often it seems like the odds come up against me during the reroll. That said, I'd still like to see more in the form of both upgrades and pilots, there are Rogue Squadron members that haven't been done yet, and getting Shira Brie(Lumiya) in Rebel form would be awesome.

I still find rookies quite useful on the tabletop tbh. While they're more expensive than bandits I prefer the X over the Z.

As an interceptor player wedge with marksmanship or predator scares me. It usuallly can get a damage through even with tokens.

Wedge with marksmanship has been a recent favourite of mine.
