Not sure I'm reading this right...does the "references discontinued FOREVER" mean that those units are o longer in the game?

(In which case, it looks like AD HMG troops have all been purged...I would think the HMG nerf was enough of a hit.)

You are correct, those are gone, no more profile. CB and a fair number of players felt AD troops with HMGs were a tad op. Other then the few remaining most AD troops will get a spitfire now, means you will have to drop in clser for an alpha strike, more risk/reward.

Thematically, Spitfires make more sense for AD troops. You wkuldn't be jumping out of a plane with a big ass machine gun. You'd want something more compact.

I just hope we get the Ahl Fassed and Halqa kits expanded. They're both units I'd like to use, but with only 2 Halqa figures and only 1 actual Ahl Fassed (I still say that the current Janissary design was meant to be the Ahl Fassed), it's kind of hard to field those units. I really hope there will be full box sets for both units. I also hope the Ahl Fassed get their AVA increased.

They come in a 2 pack, and there already is a rifle one in the Bahram starer. Its a reference stock number thing, it's not worded very well.

So the rifle (and, presumably, hacker) profiles survive the great AD purge as playable in game-- it's the blister that's being discontinued (due to the no longer playable HMG).

Thanks for clearing this up -- was worried I was going to have a couple of useless models all of a sudden!

Guess I'll chop that hmg off & replace it with a spitfire.

Gao Tarsos HMG isn't on there with other AD HMGs.

Shows Tohaa are still their favourite baby.

It's hilarious because one of the profiles in there is the Ragik rifle that's bundled with the HMG. There's also one in the Bahram starter. Does this mean they're purging the rifle profile too and the one in the Bahram starter will have no profile?

If you have one why not just use it in friendly games with the N2 profile maybe just look at how they change BTS for N3 & adjust it? Just a thought.

Unless they were on an older discontinued list the Crusader brethren made the cut too.

It looks like the age of the model may be factor as well then. I don't think any of the cut drop HMGs are less than three years old...?

Crusader brethren and Gao Tarsos, like the Ekdromoi that also has a HMG, were all Paradiso units. I'd guess anything in Paradiso is safe.

That's like asking for a pre-sepsitor profile of Ko Dali.

Really, what would the point of making up a non-official profile to replace the current N2 profile? If you don't care that there's no longer an official profile, the N2 profile is probably close enough already.

That's all well and good if you have the N2 book. But, if you're like me and you rely on the online sources, you're kind of out of luck.

I don't really see the point in entirely removing the Exrah. They're already established in the fluff. Why not just remove the models from sale, but keep the profiles? Then just reintroduce them sometime later. It's really kind of a strange decision.

Real shame that the Caskuda is going, that great big alien lobster I know was a favourite for many players (even if they didn't own the miniature apparently!)

I wonder if that's to do with CB reducing the efficacy of the drop-type miniatures, and the Caskuda being part of that? If so I wouldn't be surprised to see some kind of non-dropping type version appearing, especially if the CA feature heavily in Archon Falls.

The AD feature made the Caskuda fairly unique. Personally, I'd like to see them keep an AD TAG in there somewhere. Maybe the evil Tohaa will get one as a replacement for it? That could be cool.

Well, I've asked Koni directly if the Caskuda will still have a profile in N3 - you never know.

Some of the HMG models will obviously not be getting profiles, but I'd imagine no one will have a problem with the HMG models being used as Spitfires instead.

Whether or not I like the decision to cut the Exrah, that would just cause massive confusion for new players. In any case they'd need to be redone as the Vector HMG is as close to broken as anything in Infinity gets, so you're also looking at the usual rounds of playtesting etc. rather than a simple 'keep the profiles'.

As far as the models go:

- I assembled two Iskallers. On the second one, I cut the arms apart and swapped them left/right and the model looked pretty much the same, and cut apart and reposed the legs because the landing pose looks more like a falling pose.
- The Void Operator was a great line trooper sculpt with probably too many barbs on it. Not too bad for reposing. I ordered four of them on Friday to use for a different game so that I'll have a squad of six.
- The Vector Operator is a really neat looking model that has too many small bits. I've got one of each at the moment, I love the model, but I don't know that I want to try to get any more. They make better lieutenant figures than grunts.
- The Caskuda. I have one already that's half assembled, because I was debating doing a standing conversion. I ordered a second one on Friday, and I think I got the last one from War Store.

Disclaimer: The Vector Operator hacker is one of the first models that I bought for Infinity. Assembling two drones and and a Vector felt like diving into the deep end of the Infinity model assembly pool. "Oh, thank god this other model only has three parts!"

I mostly just upset about the Caskuda - I love that model!

Due to its size, I'm not sure what it could even proxy for and have it make sense/be fun.

Maybe there will be something new for the Combined Army that will take the place of many Exrah figures, and that would also provide a good 'proxy outlet' for them too...

"Due to its size" shouldn't be an issue at all, especially in 3rd edition when you no longer use the model for drawing line of sight.

To be half serious, one of things I'm considering for the other Caskuda is putting a hat on top of it and using it as an O-yoroi while quoting Bostria's "They went over to Yu Jing" comment. If you don't have an Avatar yet, they'd work just as well for that, or a Raicho, as far as the game mechanics are concerned.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Iskallers or Vector Operator models getting used as any of the jump Morats. The Void Operator should work as a serviceable proxy for pretty much any of the line infantry. So there's a lot you could use them to proxy, especially if you cut the barrel of the HMG down to suggest a smaller weapon. The Vector Operator is bulky enough that it would likely pass for medium or heavy infantry.

IJW - Can I ask what is so broken about the Vector HMG? Other than a mad-hopping flea jumping about with MSV2 and HMG it doesn't seem too unreasonable?

I take it you've never played against it?

MSV2 plus smoke is already bad enough, and I say that as a Nomad player. Add 6-2 MOV and Super-Jump and [i]cheaper points than the Intruder HMG or Yaogat HMG) and it is indeed broken, even if it's not then combined with Hungries. :(
