Since you can't charge bottom of turn 1 anymore?
Fast assault units that scout seem to just sit there a turn in the opponents face before they can charge anything.

Or getting a bit closer to the enemy before they get to shoot at you, thus reducing the number of rounds of shooting you need to endure to close in.
5 scouting battlewagons are fun Especially when stuffed with greeny goodies...

Or starting turn one in rapid fire range of everything, completely dictating your opponents movement phase. This makes White Scars CT so nasty.

Redeploy based on your opponents deployment
Your opponent deployed to blow up your unit? Scout back behind cover to prevent that.
Your opponent is focusing his aggression somewhere else? Capitalize on that and scout forward aggressively.

Free movement phase. It's not much, but there will always be that one time that it makes or breaks a deployment and can make it all worth it again.

Another use - scouting a MM up that 12" might very well be crucial to popping an enemy vehicle for Melta USR.

you can scout more than 6"?
Also if you start 24.1" away from the enemy, a regular scout move wouldnt get you into rapid fire range?

Infantry scouts 6", everything else scouts 12"
For things like battlewagons, you scout 12", then move 12" first turn. Dakka dakka.

Sisters do this very well.
Immolators with Multi-melta, melta squad inside. Scout forward 12", move 6", disembark 6", shoot 2 targets, possibly both in melta range.
Surprised many an opponent.
Of course if you get seized or go second it's not much use.

I'm pretty sure its not just infantry that goes 6". I will have to wait until I get home from work to look it up but I'm 99% sure its more than just infantry. Walkers for example. I wish I could remember the specifics off the top of my head..

I loooove scout. I play big units of flesh hounds a lot specifically because they have scout.
Standing and getting shot in the face is just the price you pay for being an assault unit in this edition (or pay for really expensive transports). It's gonna happen when you outflank, it's gonna happen if you start in your deployment zone, it's gonna happen if you infiltrate, it's just gonna happen. Scout just cuts the distance between you and them. Also great for board control. If you have multiple fast units and one or two that scouts you basically get your half of the board as your deployment zone. You can really effectively box in static slow armies with the right scouting unit.

- infiltrate then scout into cover.
- scouting onto objectives
- redeployment to wrong foot the opponent
- scouting behind LoS cover to stop opponents shooting at a unit
- getting assault units closer, be they fast cavalry/beasts or just slower footsloggers
- scouting transports so the occupants are in rapid fire/melta range
- scouting vehicles so the vehicles weapons are in range, flamestorm baals/mm razorbacks (sisters and IA:2)
- outflank for objective capture/deployment zone disruption/side armour shots/line breaker/ objective capture
- boxing opponents units in
- not giving up T1 shooting because you scouted the unit forward instead, or scouted then moved (grav cents with liber heresius inq for example)
- scouting backwards to get out of range of uniys opponent put down during infiltration stage
- reducing opponents shooting phase by a turn if an assault army
Scout is massive. It has so many tactical uses and has to rate up there with infiltrate as one of the best tactical usrs in the game.

Poly Ranger, I know you know your combos/synergies well and I has a question: Is there any way to confer infiltrate to some of the faster daemons units? Someone has to have thought of this already though. It would all but guarantee first turn charges. . .

Unfortunately, even if there were, we can't charge 1st turn after having infiltrated. The only ways I can think of to give infiltrate to non infiltrate units are master of deception and master of ambush. There may be relics in the new SW GK or DE dexes or supplements that might but I don't have these so I don't know.
