Subject: Can I model IG missile launcher teams on 25mm bases?

I wasn't sure where to post this, but I was curious whether it's legal to model a two man team of guardsmen carrying a missile launcher ( one with launcher, one with ammo ) on two separate 25mm bases. I would like to do this purely for aesthetic purposes and so that they match the infantry squad they're assigned to.

It's not technically legal, but there are also very few issues with it, so long as it's obvious which guy in the squad is the second 'wound' of the Missile Team, so you don't go firing his lasgun by mistake anyway.
It's the kind of thing you'll really need to check with your opponent, and if they say no, just have a 60mm circle of card to plonk them on (or something more elaborate if you can be bothered). Personally, I'd have no issue, as I agree its aesthetically cool and doesn't cause too many problems.

I have never had issues doing this. I think the bases for the heavy weapons teams are waaaay to big anyway.
They used to do this according the old IG books I have, so it should be ok to do now.

Alright, thanks for the heads up. I would do my best to make it obvious that the second model is the loader/second wound ( carrying extra ammo for the launcher or what have you. )
But yeah I could see how some people would have a problem with it. Automatically Appended Next Post: Swastakowey wrote:They used to do this according the old IG books I have, so it should be ok to do now.
Even in the current codex there is a picture of a missile launcher team on 25mm bases, and they're from a newly painted army too!

The difference is that once upon a time the heavy team was just two regular guardsmen.
These days, they're a single, two-wound model... which is problematic if they're running around separately.

But what if I’m using them on the 25mm bases they came with? Next thing you’ll be telling me I have to re-base my IG assault squads.

Technically you don't HAVE to rebase them just like you don't HAVE to rebase old metal terminators (veteran's preference). I'd have no problem with it but this is yet another sorely divided subject amongst 40k players.

If you just leave the loader in B2B contact with the missile guy, that should be easy enough to keep track.
Alternatively, if you want to avoid issues, just model your HWTs like Ailaros has modeled his.
Individual models...on 60mm bases.

Easy way to count wounds there, if not for some extra basing work.

The only problem with that, is if you remove one of the guys, you are changing the HWT model's profile, making it easier to claim 25% obscure.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
