So I've never played apocalypse before but I picked up the Damnos book for the fluff and art stuff and I was curious... Can I take those Necron formations in a normal game of 40k and still benefit froom the special rules? Really only wondering because I'd like to try the swarm formation. If I do can I still be considered battle forged?

I do not know about these particular formations, as they might have a '40K approved' stamp or something, but to even play with Apocalypse Rules you require your Opponents consent.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures. |

So basically in a friendly game it should be cool but a formation is not considered the same as a detachment with command benefits?

There's a difference between "Apocalypse Formations" and "Formations".
One is good for use in 40K, the other isn't.

Before you can field an Apocalypse formation, you will need your opponent's consent and then it follows all the default Rules for Apocalypse games.

The Damnos formations are intended for games of Apocalypse. They are not always balanced for regular 40k and sometimes have rules that reference things that only exist in Apoc.
You would definitely need your opponents permission and shouldn't expect everyone to say yes.
