So in the dakka gallery the images are usually quite small but you can zoom in to see their original resolution. Only problem is this only displays the image's original resolution within the same default image window, so you gotta scroll around. Is there a method to display the original image across the entire monitor screen? If thats not possible, how can I download the original image to view it offline on my screen in its entirety?

Have you tried

That might be the solution you're looking for. Maybe?

nope, that doesnt work. E.g. tried it on this image here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/416766-Dark%20Vengeance%2C%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Tactical.html
when you zoom in, you can clearly see how high res the real image is, but view image only shows you the small version and once you start zooming in, you dont get the view image on the right click

Lego has many Gallery improvements planned, and I think this is one of them (making it easier to access the full-size image, but for the time being, here is one way you can do it.
Go to the gallery page of the pic you want to see. Like the one you linked, for example. Then right-click on the pic and choose to 'open picture in a new tab' (or window). If you look at the URL for the tab/window that comes up, it will look like this (in our example):
http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/10/1/416766_md-Dark%20Vengeance%2C%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Tactical.png
The '_md' in there is what tells the page to load the medium version of the pic. If you get rid of the '_md' from that URL, you now get the full-sized pic. So this URL will give you the full-size picture instead:

Thank you sir! That was exactly what I was looking for. Finally I can save the full res versions of some of the awesome pics fellow dakka users have uploaded to this site as inspiration

Yeah apologies, the gallery is very long in the tooth now and needs a big UI overhaul as it was designed for a different time when we had much less bandwidth available.
