Been Around the Block

It's been almost a month since someone posted here, so I thought I'd get something started here.

The Skinnies are now out with about 8 unique army lists, and later this year the Forth will come out, who will basically be the technological masters of the game.  The Exosuits models have also just been released, which give the MI a new Elite army with great firepower and mobility.  A single squad can wipe out a couple dozen bugs in a single turn of shooting!

There are over a dozen SST players at Danger Planet, and a few more scattered about the New England area, and we're always open to run demos and such.  If you have any questions about SST or have concerns about the game that are keeping you from playing, I'd be happy to answer any questions.

I know some of you are already starting to give SST a try, and I look forward to helping you out and playing against new opponents.

I've always liked Starship Troopers, and the game looks real cool. Only problem is, the local store doesn't push the game, so no body plays it. I picked up a box of MI, but since no one plays it, I never even finished building them.

Well, first of all, where do you live? On the mongoose publishing website forums, there is a thread that is like 9-10 pages long of SST players from around the world and their locations. I'd say aside from like the north midwest US, there seems to be gamers just about everywhere.

Also, a great way to get started is to just buy the boxed set for $75 (or less at thewarstore.com) and demo it for your friends and soon it will catch on. That's how it has caught on just about everywhere else, you just need one person to really get into it and others will follow.

I'm interested a bit. Been a fan of the book for some time. I am, however, wondering what scale its in?

Starship Troopers is basically the same scale as 40K.

Check out WeeToySoldiers.com and it should give you an idea of how the models stack up to each other.

Actually 40K is a sort of warped 28mm sometimes, just check out figure proportioning vs weird weapon scale while Starship Trooper is a much more true to scale 30mm.

Read the Dakka Dakka review to get a feel for the general play of SST. I have played 40K since Rogue Trader in 1987 or 1988. SST is a much more dynamic and involving game mechanically plus I like the less dark and more "realistic" future envisioned by Heinlein in the original book.

The weapons and equipment are evolutionary developments out of modern technology, not a dark pseudo religious Barbarism ala 40K.

Man, I love those Grizzly suits.

I hate most of the rest of the SST line, but those Grizzly suits are nice.

...Manfred likes Bears...

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.
