A trade was agreed on and completed. Once everything was sent and received I got the following message.

HokieHWT wrote:Got the package today...some bits broke during shipping but nothing I can't fix with green stuff! I really like the thunder fire cannons, they are unique and will help round out my 1850 list. Take care and enjoy!

Now a little over a week later he messages me demanding money to compensate his failure to successfully strip some models. I apologized for his inconvenience but I refuse to pay anything. What he does with the models after he okay the trade is not my fault and I won't compensate for that. After I refused he responded with insults and threats and is now calling me a "scumbag" in the swap forums, so just figured I would get this out here. Is it common around here for people to try and extort money after a trade?

It might just be me, but this is an incredibly hostile post. For the sake of clarity on both of your behaves its in the best interest to do updates publicly and let the swapping community know that either of you are reputable players to deal with.

(Im not saying either of you aren't, just how it might look later on)

No I think this is important enough to be made public. This is the sort of thing that is highly discouraging to internet trading. This is in the same wheel house as someone receiving goods and then filing a paypal compliant to get their money back.

A trade took place, both parties were happy with the result after receiving models.

I have seen other members bring there disputes up here so, here we are.

Here are all the messages exchanged about the trade in question. I have removed the addresses for privacy and courtesy. His messages towards the end are laced with profanity and insults but I guess there is a filter that edits stuff out, I just thought he was using some very odd phrasing. That was a little surprise with I quoted the messages. lol

Interested in tactical marines and thunderfire cannons. Looking for marines not from the AOBR box set. Also looking for SM with missile launchers.

squirrelowar wrote:I have some that are not from the starter, probably 10 maybe more. The 2 thunderfire I have for trade are converted with tripod legs instead of tracks. They are complete with tech marines.

HokieHWT wrote:I'm interested in trading for the tactical marines for sure. Anyway you can send pics of the thunderfire cannons? I think I can visualize it but want to be sure

HokieHWT wrote:I emailed you back but in case you didn't get it.

From what I see those look pretty good. What is the base made from? I've never seen that variation. Like my PM said I have a slaughtermaster/butcher who has been airbrush primed flesh tone, and a stonehorn/thundertusk that has had the body built and primed light brown with first layer of dry brushing applied. I also have a NIB leadbelchers and 12 ogre troops built and airbrush primed flesh. I also have a metal giant that is painted table top. I'd be interested in trading for an tactical marines and the two thunderfire cannons, and more if you have anything else vanilla SM.

Tom

squirrelowar wrote:The were made by a friend of mine, I know the bottom is part of a drop pod but I can't remember what the feet are from.

Almost everything I have is vanilla SM. I have a ton a tactical marines but many are from black reach. I have a bunch of other stuff as well. Can you send me some pics of the ogres stuff.

HokieHWT wrote:Pics sent to your email.

squirrelowar wrote:The pics look good. I would take all of it depending on the trade. Not sure I need more bulls but depending on what you want I can be persuaded for a good deal. When you get a chance put together an offer and send it to me.

HokieHWT wrote:For everything I don't need too much more than the two thunderfire cannons with the servitors and the 10 tactical marines not from a boxed set. What else can you add to these to balance out the trade? Got any bikes, heavy support (hunter/stalker), or terminators with thunderhammers and storm shields?

squirrelowar wrote:No I don't think I have any of that stuff. I have a predator? When I get home sunday I can look more and give you a better idea of what I have. My space marine stuff is in my trade thread.

HokieHWT wrote:If you throw in the predator I'd call it even Send me your address and I'll box everything up and send it out.

Thanks!

squirrelowar wrote:Ok that's a deal. I get back on sunday the 30th so I will get it boxed up and on it's way on dec 1st. I will message you the tracking as soon as I ship it.

HokieHWT wrote:I was cleaning up my workshop and found a container of dip that had 20 tactical marines in it. Instead of the tactical marines would you consider either of the following:

2 Thunderfire Cannons
2 Drop Pods

OR

2 Thunderfire Cannons
Predator
Razorback

Let me know. I'd prefer the drop pods and thunderfire cannons, I didn't see them on your list at first.

squirrelowar wrote:Ok awesome, sorry about that. When the guy offered me money for everything I couldn't really turn it down. lol I'll have your stuff in the mail on Monday.

HokieHWT wrote:It's ok...I never really looked at your list once I saw thunderfire cannons haha. They are what I really need, the tactical marines and predator just give me more options based on my opponent.

squirrelowar wrote:I received your package today! Everything looks great at first glance. I have had some stuff come up today and I'm not gonna make the post office but I have your stuff boxed up and will have it out first thing tomorrow. I tossed a couple extra goodies in there for you.

HokieHWT wrote:Wow that was fast! No worries I appreciate anything extra you may have haha

squirrelowar wrote:Awesome, glad you like them. Sorry about the breaks, hopefully they are an easy fix. Enjoy them and thanks for the trade.

HokieHWT wrote:What kind of paint did you use on the tactical marines? They yellow paint won't come off and I've stripped hundreds of models...I think you screwed me over with broken gak and worthless models bro. Really not cool. I think you owe me some money to even out the trade.

squirrelowar wrote:I don't know what the paint is on them that is how they game to me. The coat was thin enough that they could have been painted over without lossing any details.

As far as broken stuff, you mentioned some broken bits in shipping that were no problem. Your message after you got the models was a positive one. I'm sorry that you are second guessing the trade but I don't think you were in any way screwed.

I would suggest a soak in purple power, I've yet to see a model not be stripped by it.

HokieHWT wrote:It has been soaking in Purple Power...for a week donkey-cave! The paint is thick as a melon-fether. You owe me $20, please mail it or face the consequences of legal action. I WILL ensure that the trade is even and you will be required to pay all legal costs when I'm through. The models you showed in the pictures you sent were not the ones that were sent.

squirrelowar wrote:Well guess go get a lawyer then. Pretty childish to resort to insults and threats. The only pictures you requested were of the tcannons which were the exact models you got and loved. You asked for marines not from the starter set. I sent you a set with a light coat of paint, if you ruined them trying to strip them then that is your problem.

Again, sorry you are second guessing the trade, I realize that you wanted to change the trade last minute and I wasn't able to accommodate that. Still to try and come back at me a week later and try to get me to pay you money is unacceptable. You recieved the models and were happy, I have those messages saved.

"Got the package today...some bits broke during shipping but nothing I can't fix with green stuff! I really like the thunder fire cannons, they are unique and will help round out my 1850 list. Take care and enjoy!"

That was all you said, nothing about being upset about the condition of painted models. Hell I even felt bad for you, since I couldn't adjust the trade, and sent you a couple extra chapter masters.

As far as I'm concerned we are done.

HokieHWT wrote:Eat gak melon-fether! I don't need to get a lawyer I know the law bitch...this is going to cost you a feth ton more than the $20 I asked for. Check your mail for the paperwork ladies man!

I think you're ok.

If he didn't ask for pictures OR what the minis were painted with then that's on him.
I (almost) had a trade once where stuff was primed red in the pictures. I asked what the paint was and the seller didn't know. I asked him if he could try stripping it, he said sure, tried it and it didn't come off. I politely declined the trade.

Resorting to name calling and "THE LAW" is pretty childish.

All that being said, if what he said was true and what you showed in the pictures were not the models that were sent then that's a totally different story of course~

If he didn't as for pics that's his fault. But like I always say that's the risk at getting second hand minis. Sure we save money but some Times stuff like this happen. I lost count how many models I wasn't able to strip and just threw in the garbage. That's why I try to get unpainted models or ask very clearly what paint was used to paint them.

Being a cop, unless you hid messages, there is absolutely no legal action he could take against you. He doesn't like his purchase? That's just crappy luck.
