Anyone ever written JJ? Anyone ever gotten a reply? I would imagine that polite, short correspondence would be well-received rather than voluminous rants.

Does anyone at GW read mail?

Is there even an avenue to send mail these days, or do they just repeat the line about wanting their stores to be the only line of communication with customers because they offer a better 'hobby experience'?

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

It might be as simple as simply addressing it to GWHQ and marking it "Attn: Jervis Johnson"? Even if they don't openly solicit correspondence, almost every company reads real mail. Frankly, I'm not even sure what I'd write. It was just something that popped into my ADD-riddled mind.

Kind of a crappy attitude, dude. Even if you hate GW, I would hope that you don't hate its employees. Separate the player from the game, if you catch my meaning?

I like GW. I buy GW.

Who cares if Jervis Johnson is responding to email?

Or more specifically, why do you care?

You actually sent him a book? That's pretty cool. Strange that he wouldn't acknowledge the gift, tho.

You sent him a book full of pictures of skulls? Gee, I wonder why he never responded...

And now we know why gw has a 'moar skulls!' theme to every mini. For what its worth, i think someone there liked it.

Come on, who else could possible appreciate such a think, I mean outside of the GW studio who else would even buy the Skull ABC book?

It never occurred to me that your gift was tongue-in-cheek. Was that your intention? Maybe he got the joke and didn't appreciate it, or maybe he didn't get the joke and was just creeped out by it.

I'm glad that White Dwarf got rid off JJ's column.

I've got two hand-written letters from GW that date from the early 90's, one from JJ and the other from Gav Thorpe, about rules and background queries

These days such a thing would be unimaginable (they've probably moved on to Olivetti by now ), as the company has grown so much.

I know JJ gets a hard time for some of his codecies but I have a loft of time for the guy; his work on Spacehulk and Necromunda amongst loads of other great games, his cigar-smoking pic in battle reports where he was always beaten by Andy Chambers. Apparently he was also the reason that Specialist Games kept going for as long as it did, the powers that be wanted the entire range and rules removed from the site years before, but he'd offered to keep stewardship/maintenance of it going entirely off his own back.

I see him as the last vestige of the 'true' GW, when it was a company made by hobbyists and for hobbyists, a real 'workshop' that was a cradle of creativity and imagination that hooked so many of us.

Actually, if you snail mail them you probably will get a reply, as long as the message itself isn't the usual donkey-cave stuff posted on the forums here.

However, I think JJ was at the bottom end among the creative heads.

A friend got a reply from Jervis about 5 years ago, when he complained about the price of the greatsword plastic box.

Got a reasonable letter that toed the company line in return.

I think JJ has an exalted position now so that replying emails is no longer his working subject.

Have written about 7 letters over the last 2-3 years to Phil Kelly, Robin Cruddace, Jeremy Vetock and Jervis Johnson.
Have had one reply from Phil Kelly.

Lack of reply's could be because the subject matter of my letters was about SOB?

To be honest, given the amount of moonlighting he's done for various historical systems recently, I'm slightly surprised he still works for GW - I wouldnt be remotely surprised if he left soon and went somewhere like Warlord Games instead.

What work is that jim30? I'd be interested to know.

He might well end up like Rick Priestly, whereby he was apparently promoted to a point where he wasn't actually doing anything. Just sat in his office in the centre of the building but with next to no creative input.

Why then what did you want to hear Mr Morden?

Obviously changed from what I experienced. Talking about early 00's, met one of the writing team. Not giving away names, but I have never met such a jobsworth - absolute tosser, if they had people like that involved in working on the magazine it is no surprise at all why the quality nose-dived.

What did I want?

I asked about getting some rules for Sisters to match the coverage in the recent campign book and back when they started printing rules asked about why the Dwarf did not ahev all the ones you need to use him. The most recent one was answered next day and they were not able to imediately print some rules.

I don't really feel one way or the other about Jervis, I just assumed he would read correspondence if marked to his attention. Just to be clear, I would write a physical letter (not an e-mail) and not be rude or pedantic. It's interesting to hear about some of the replies people have received. Phil Kelly always seemed like a decent guy, so I'm not surprised to hear he responded.

Mabe I'll give it a shot after the holidays. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

What did Phil say about the future of SoB?

His letter was in January 2013 in response to a letter that I sent in December 2012.
He was noncommittal in response to my question re a Full Codex in the next two years (by Dec 14) as I expected him to be.
He did say that due to number of letters he received that he can't reply to all of them.
He added "Rest assured, your ideas and suggestions have been 'added to the melting pot'" which at least suggests there was a melting pot for Sisters in January 2013. No not the one they are melting all the metal figures in.
I had discussed a theme idea of Sister been Stubborn as fitting their image and making them a tarpit in close combat.

He added a PS. which was
"Though I personally prefer playing the xenos scum that Sisters players like to burn, I really like the army dynamic and style. One of my regular opponents makes great use of them, so I have a healthy respect for their many special weapons!"

All in all, quite a nice reply.

Nothing really specific about an SoB release.
It's not a cash cow and thus I guess GW will resume with a Marine release.

Tips for getting a reply:

1. Include a self addressed envelope with a blank bit of paper (make sure it has a stamp on it.
2. Mark outside of your package with F.A.O 'name of person'
3. Try to ask something novel or interesting and ideally about something recipient cares about.
4. Be polite and don't ask anything where the answer will obviously be a company line style of answers.
5. Include your email address incase he doesn't want to reply using envelope.
