Greetings,

I've been playing warhammer on and off since 1998. I have done fully painted armies for catachans, tau, and tyranids in addition to ratskin and cawdor gangs for necromunda. I'm by no means a pro painter, but I do decent tabletop quality work. It took over 15 years but I finally got an itch to model some space marines. I like to do armies where I can add alot of my own personal touch and take alot of ownership in the finished product. I wanted to do a second founding chapter for marines that has not received alot of love and attention.

I ended up settling on the Marauders chapter. I love their emblem and I wanted to challenge myself to use brighter colors. My Tyranids and Tau are all painted in (easy) dark, earthy tones. I also liked the fact that they are secondary successors to white scars and had little in terms in established backstory. It gives me room to create what I want while still sticking with an official chapter. I'm pretty excited about this project because it seems to be an army that is rarely seen on the table top. Not to mention the new marine codex has been pretty generous to space marine bikers. I plan on sticking to the basics: Tactical Marines, Bikers Squads, Landspeeders, and a stormraven. I'm not going to do an all bike army because I think that should be strictly reserved for the scars and ravenwing. Although, I do plan to stick to the calvary and fast attack theme.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I stuck with the established color scheme but changed up a few things to keep things interesting for me. I used a gold yellow to try and differentiate these guys from Imperial fists. I used a dark grey trim for the shoulder pads and changed the chest pieces to a dark brassy color. Here is how the first five came out. At this point I have 9 finished and I plan the finish the final guy before the year is finished. I'll upload better pictures soon.

By far the most important part is nailing this chapter symbol.

Once I finish up the tenth marine I plan on doing these emblems.

In the long term, next I want to do two bike squads, 6 landspeeders, a rhino and a stormraven. I'm shooting to finish by this summer. I'm significantly behind schedule from what I had planned because it takes FOREVER to layer up this yellow. Although, I still want to finish out the project.

Beautiful, I always love to see not-so-famous chapters painted. I like your changes, they are far too much "Yellow" and those small changes IMHO help them look better.

Radical! What a fantastic chapter pick, I get a lot of grief for pledging fealty to my good ol' ultrasmurfs but all I have for you is respect, Marauders are badass and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to follow along with the blog! Keen to see where this goes.

I had a friend do these for me because I had a hard time getting the right shade of red with my printer. However, you should use this paper if you are interested http://bare-metal.com/Experts-Choice-Decal-Film.html and seal it with a thin coat of krylon clear coat. They turn out fine for black and darker colors but it's trickier to do a clear decal with bright colors.

I've been using grey primer with a thin layer of Ushabi bone and then Vallejo gold yellow (game color). Then I use Reikland fleshshade to do the trim. I'm not going to lie though, yellow is a hard pigment to work with. It doesn't give you alot of room to make mistakes.

Hopefully once I get some better pictures up they will look fairly set apart from imperial fists.

Really appreciate the recipe. Been collecting different ones to find a yellow I like. Haven't tried any yet as that project is way down the line, but looking forward to seeing more of your project.

Tactical Squad looks really good. Are you going to add any weathering to the bottom of the bike?

Oh , I forgot to mention I was going to put in a big order of bases from dragon forge with my next paycheck.

I'll have to see how it looks before I consider the weathering.

I was thinking broken wasteland, I like painting bases gray.

Speaking of which, I'm trying to decide what to add to the tactical marine bases. I used gray texture paint, a wash, and a highlight. I feel like they need something else but I can't figure out what to do. It seems like the tufts would look out of place.

Well they're official now

The red flame looks more faint in the picture than it is in person.

Aaannnd the ever elusive tactical symbol. I've got to finish the other 9 now. Just happy I managed to get the emblem to look decent. Once I (Finally) wrap up the tactical squad I'm going to focus on the first bike squad. After that I plan on purchasing an airbrush to start working on landspeeders and eventually a storm raven. Also, I put in a 100 dollar order for bases last night from dragon forge. Kind of regret not getting some for the tactical marines. Oh well.

I've been collecting bits for my chapter master. Look for an update on him soon. Plan on using quite a few bits from forgeworld to make him.

I haven't updated in awhile. I paint slow and I got tied up playing monster hunter 4. I have 3 bikes done now. I'm working on the attack bike.

Truly a sick spectacle. What must be done will be done. I'm starting to worry that I might have way too many bikes and landspeeders once the new space marine codex hits. Hopefully it will have a white scars formation or something like that.

Haven't posted in awhile. I'm still working on these guys. I paint much slower than average, and this paint scheme takes even longer. I finished a bike squad this week.

I currently have freeblade knight being commision painted for me. The base coat is done and I am very pleased with it so far. It is truly what I had envisioned for the character.

The Knight's name will be Arus Slaig. I wanted him to be from a mining planet. His emblems and crest will reflect that.

Expect to see my chapter master completed next.

Finished the Chapter Master. This comes after at least half a year of collecting bits for him. A friend of mine helped me with his face and the freehand on the front of the bike.

He definitely has more of the "Mongolian" look compared to the rest of the army. I plan on giving his command squad the same sort of look.
